While I was not a fan of Hartwell as a person, he was a shrewd negotiator. When he hired NB he made sure it was with enough money to seal the deal and the money to attract the right coordinators and assistant coaches. As much as I liked Jeremy McClain, in my opinion, he-with one foot out the door, did not make sure that we had A. the right coach, B. he didn't manage to keep even the same level of funding for coordinators and assistants. C. He left and we had to hire a new AD. So, in one fell swoop we replaced the two most high profile positions in the athletic department with people who had never held those positions. I like BJ and commend him and his staff for pulling off a season when no one thought it could be done. However, you cannot tell me that the state of our athletic program at the end of 2018/beginning of 2019 would not have attracted someone who was already an AD. Again, BJ may have been the best candidate but I think that he also was the least experienced and probably agreed to a lesser salary to get the title. I do agree with a previous post that his biggest test as an AD will come a year from now when he truly has to deal with CL. In the meantime - why for all that is good and right has no one picked up the phone and called Al Pouge?! For the sake of the program some changes have to be made even if it is only for perception.

No. I asked someone from athletics last night if it could happen and he said the season is over. Now this is 2020 and stranger things have happened.

I didn't get the sense that he couldn't manage it - He said that he had recruited based on the senior class leaving and now some are not. he still doesn't know which seniors will stay because those players haven't made their decisions. He actually seemed relaxed and talked about each and every player signed. It seems as is he's staying and we as fans have to move forward and support our team. This time next year we will know if this was in fact the right decision.

I would do it now so it gets lost in the other news cycle. It’s done, it’s not the lead story and we move on.

I really hate this for our players - they have deserved better. Here's to the Men of Troy!

Some of you may know already but Sim Byrd is very ill. He has been in intensive care with pneumonia for almost 7 weeks and is on a ventilator. I am posting this with permission from his wife, Faith Ward Byrd. If y'all could keep them in your prayers she would greatly appreciate it. He's had some small improvements but has a very long road ahead of him. This is not Covid related. Thank you.

I spoke with Coach in September when Kentucky stayed at my hotel. I had to ask where he was - I didn't recognize him. God bless his family and the team. They all spoke so highly of him.

Johnny Williams is also the organizer of the FCS Guardian Kick-Off Game. This was held in August and was between 10-20% capacity. A lot of this will have to do with the local municipalities as well as the teams.

Just heard Johnny Williams on Barry's radio show. If Troy is not in one of the 2 bowls in Montgomery, I will leave this message board forever. Johnny did not come out and say it, (don't want to start rumors) but he said enough to confirm what I've said from day one. So be prepared for Troy to be in the Gump on 12/23 or 12/25. I concur.

My thoughts: Where is the run game? And specifically Charlie Strong? Levi won’t be coming back. His fiancé needs a much bigger market for her career as she’s already covering professional sports. Regarding how the team dresses - I work in the hospitality industry and book football teams. Some arrive in matching sweat suits/casual attire and some in suits. Neither is an indication of performance on the field. And this year especially teams are geared for safety and are traveling with less luggage. I personally like suits and ties during Trojan Walk and hope to see that next year.

I looked on two sites yesterday and tickets were between $160-240. And, I'm thinking about it. I've tried not to do alot of the what-ifs but a Saturday game in Mobile - we would have had 10,000 Trojans there!

There would be no need to social distance people they have tailgated together all day. We will have to see if tailgating is even allowed on campus. Regardless, I wouldn’t necessarily think social distancing would be required among ticket blocks. For example, the six seats that I buy wouldn’t need to be 6 feet apart from each other, would they? I don't think so. For the Guardian Kick-Off Classic next week. My six tickets will be together but then there will be 4 seats on either side and the seats in front or behind will be separated by two rows. That is reducing their capacity to about 3,000. FYI - Former Troy defensive player Tony Davis will be coaching Central Arkansas in that game.

Coincidentally the two conferences that have cancelled Football are also the two conferences who have organized player unity groups. Just something to think about. They didn’t give up hundreds of millions for that. Bring it back to Earth cowboy. Cowgirl, actually.

I think this year more than any other, empty stands are not a defining factor of a program. The reason for playing is to play the game. I hope there will be TV, especially for the away games.

The main issue I believe is the cost of testing. The smaller conferences cannot sustain the financial burden of that. One school was testing every player and coach every 72 hours. I work at a hotel where some of these teams were scheduled and I have had two gut-wrenching conversations this morning. These players, coaches and staff are obviously very upset but so much is beyond our control.

I think a statue would be awesome. In front of Long Hall - with his hand "aka The Claw" raised in the air.
