Certainly hoping for the best regarding BJ's injury. That being said, any insight on younger guys(aside from Billingsley and Daughtry-Frye) who might be in a position to contribute? Woods might be the best raw talent and I'd like to see him play more. He and Charles Strong will be a nice one two punch next season alongside D.K.

Was there no post game press conference? I was like "did he really just say that???" until I realized they uploaded the wrong post game footage.

We definitely had a BIG question mark on that secondary. They have plenty to work on. We got gutted bad on all those shallow crosses. Some of the issues with the secondary make sense. A lot of new guys flying around with a new DC, with one or two guys being injured. I was still surprised none the less, and it didn't seem like the proper adjustments were being made. What's more baffling is that our defensive line never really seemed to really bother their quarterback. I'm optimistic that some of these things can be fixed with time as our coaches and players get more experience, but I'm also a bit of a realist, and what we all saw was not TMTDM defense. I'd like to chalk some things up to the bye week, and southern miss getting some quality players back, but those would just be excuses. We'll see how the rest of the season goes. I am fully expecting a dominate performance against what appears to be a very bad Akron team, though. The Troy defense needs that, bad.

Those we lost in the portal are hurting us more than anyone was willing to admit. O is okay. D is a disaster. 514 passing yards??? Losing Murray and Jones to the portal, and Dunlap to academics were huge blows to an already thin and inexperienced unit. On top of those guys, we graduated some guys like Blace and Rook that were game changers. We are young back there and Brandon Hall has his work cut out for him. I believe the players will get better as they get more experience, but a lot of tonight was on coach Hall. Whether he can improve the defense as a unit is a question who's answer will reveal itself in the coming 11 or so weeks.

I've seen mostly the opposite from their fans. Nearly all of them are on verge of signing a petition to have their coach fired, and very few think they will beat Troy. I think it's going to be a close game, but many of them do not. No doubt they mostly think they suck right now! It’s just more of an overall elitist attitude of some of those fans that bothers me. Been that way for years! They were insufferable during bowl week back in 2008.

I hope we drag them up and down the field! It’s funny to me how “some” of their fans think they are so above Troy. I mean let’s be honest...they are 3rd fiddle in Mississippi! And that ain’t saying much! Now I respect what they have done as a program. but I’m just over some of those fans. Hopefully we can hush that nonsense come Saturday! Havoc!!! Go Trojans! I've seen mostly the opposite from their fans. Nearly all of them are on verge of signing a petition to have their coach fired, and very few think they will beat Troy. I think it's going to be a close game, but many of them do not.

I think he went the JC route (again?). NCAA min requirements are everywhere the same (of course, some schools and conferences have higher requirements), but you still have to meet the NCAA min requirements. I believe he went back to JUCO to get his grades up and then enrolled in USM. I wanted him to come back to Troy, but it wasn't in the cards. I doubt it's an issue of being able to get into Southern Miss and not Troy.

Levi Brown would be my pick. The 2009 offense was a memorable one.

Still not sure about a lot of how the game will go. There's very little to go by so far as Troy is concerned. I will say this: Campbell had 8 returning starters on each side of the ball. They were the #1 FCS passing defense last season only allowing 122 passing yards per game. We had 282 yards with two guys stealing the show. That's impressive to me. They ranked 6th in sacks allowed with less than one sack per game, and gave up 5 vs Troy. Brandon Hall showed he could make in game halftime adjustments. After giving up 104 yards at the half, the Troy defense held the Camels to -34 yards in the 3rd, and 68 total yards midway through the 4th.
I'm not sure how the Troy offensive line will hold vs Southern Miss, but the Troy defense looks to be the real deal. USM didn't do a lot to impress me on offense in either game they played outside of garbage time. Versus Alcorn State (middle of the pack FCS), most of their 38 points came from special teams and field goals. They played very poorly in the first halves of both games. We need to get ahead early and not let them back in the game. In their game versus Miss State, there were lots of holes in their secondary. Miss State had ten receivers make a completion. We have some guys that will be able to make plays if our offensive line can hold.
Things Troy needs work on: Special teams return game, dropped balls by guys who need to play a role in our offense, and pass protection. We torched the Camels in the passing game, but the two sacks were concerning. We play a much, much better defense this week.

Also Demontrez Brown has dropped off the depth chart. Timmie Gibson remains the #2 at WR-X. Don't know much about him. Brown was injured in the game versus Campbell. Do we know if it's season ending or day to day?

We held Campbell to -34 yards in the 3rd Quarter. Not bad. They had something like 68 total yards at the start of the 4th. Regardless of competition, that's pretty good. They gave up on average 0.82 sacks per game, and we got them 5 times. Also of note, the camels were 1st in pass defense in FCS last season (122 yards per game) and we dropped 282 with two new receivers getting over 200 of those yards. All in all a good night.

It took a year for Troy's players to get used to Neal Brown's culture. Neal Brown will exceed expectations at WVU in a year or two, in my opinion.

All of these games are winnable, but we have some improvements to make. Need to get takeaways on defense and some would be playmakers on offense need to work on catching the ball. Barker went 18 for 29, a good number considering there were at least 4 drops. Hopefully we keep the intensity up during the bye week.

How about that tempo though? That's gonna burn some defenses this year.

With the exception of this picture, they've seemed more of a bright red, or even pink, than cardinal. It must have been photo editing done by the marking folks. These look sharp.

Or that brown left us empty. Not a chance, CNB left the cupboard "loaded" compared to what he inherited here. Absolutely. Despite losing several ballers, we're still loaded.
