South is not going to be as easy as you think. I actually think it's going to be a figurative blood bath of questionable plays. 😅 But we are NOT going to lose to South. I actually haven't seen them play yet this year. I suppose it really all comes down to how good their defense is against the pass. Though I think we see some type of run game this outing, or at least an attempt. Just to mix things up and make short yardage into the endzone more manageable. But we will NOT lose to South. 😉 We will likely be without KB as well.

If you listened to any of the opposing coaches when they had to go up against Vic's defense, they would mention his unorthodox blitz packages. This is why we were able to go up against supposedly better teams like Clemson, LSU and Boise (the first time) and really confound their QBs. It would be difficult to learn complex blitzing schemes if the four or five freshman we have running around out there aren't comfortable in our base package yet. New players, new scheme, new coaches. What a concept. And have we tried? Vic had to coach them on this, they didn't blitz there self. Tony Franklin came in and put in a offense that was totally opposite of what we ran before and they learned it. No one is saying they won't learn it. We've played two games against teams that have any semblance of a passing game. 18 different starters. It's going to take some time before this unit is able to work together well. Hopefully we see improvement in the coming weeks. After Missouri, we have five very winnable games, even with our current defense. None of them have near the offensive firepower USM and ASU have. I just want to see improvement and hopefully be 7-3 (or 8-2 if we pull off a huge upset this weekend) going into the two toughest SBC matchups on our schedule.

First, you realize our defense has been gutted by graduation and injuries and a little bit of transferring. Look up the top tacklers and staters and playing time from last year to this year. Second, itâs a whole different scheme, different coaches, the coaches style is different. Damnit man, cut these kids some slack. They are not robots. It takes some time to adjust. VK recruited these kids. We will be bowl eligible by the Texas St. game. Yes I believe we will get better. We lost two very close games to teams that had the same or more talent than us and our kids never stopped fighting. That a plus for the coaching staff. And we dominated teams that we should have dominated. If you think any coaching change is a seemless transition than yes you are foolish. Ask Neal Brown, we will tell you it is not seemless. Yes, (The HC we don’t speak of)âs job is to win. But donât expect filet mignon when all you have currently is ground chuck. I will cheer for victory. You can continue to cheer for loses so you can come on here and post non stop about this and that for the 100th time. Some one posted they can't learn blitz packages. We've played FOUR games with the new staff! We haven't lost them all. We could still go 10-2. Even Boise loses a few games now and then! I don't know how the next few years will turn out, but I agree it's a bit premature with two close losses.

It’s gone... unfortunately. Cause our current coaching staff doesn’t care. We still do the hype team. Saw it last weekend vs Arkansas State.

One of the things that made VK great. He knew when to blitz and put pressure Haven't seen much blitzing this year. We were told by the DC in the off-season that there would still be quite a bit of blitzing, just like VK did. After being optimistic and being a proponent of Brandon Hall, I'm losing confidence in him as DC, fast. I hope he does a better job soon... Vic's defenses were predicated on confusing the opposing quarterback. Everyone has to do their job for that to work. I'm not trying to be funny when I say this, but drawing up exotic blitz packages would likely confuse our own defense. We have three freshman and a sophomore starting in the secondary, and two or three other freshman backing them up. These guys have zero experience and have next to no upperclassmen to guide them along. It's a really bad situation, but adversity is part of the game. How they all handle this moving forward will define them as a defense, and it's Brandon Hall's job to make sure they get better. I saw zero improvement last week and I'm not very hopeful against one of the better offenses in the country.

Looks like Arkansas State's QB1 is out for the year, announced today. I don't think it matters either way, our secondary is going to get tested. It's sort of a wash because we don't have film on the second string guy. Hopefully we get Tyus and Nixon back so we'll have some depth back there. We'll see how it plays out.

I watched the entire thing, did I miss a Reggie Todd update? Guess we'll have to wait for Barry's pregame report...

Should be at 11:30. I believe Troy Athletic's Facebook account will have it live. Need that injury report. Hopefully Todd, Tyus, and Nixon are ready to go.

It's a trap. Knowing Arkansas State, they'll say they have all of these hurt players that may not play this Saturday... and then come Saturday, every single one of them is playing and having career-high games. You don't need a high-powered pass attack to beat our defense... you just need a QB that can throw well, and WR's that can at least catch. It's really simple. Akron could've done it if they would've had a half-decent QB, but they didn't. Exactly. I don't believe any of that BS. This is their super bowl every time they play us and they will play through injuries. It's next man up and they are not short on talent. Logan Bonner and Dahu Green will likely play vs Troy.

Troy opens as a 3 point favorite. Quickly moved to a 5.5 point favorite. Must be their performance vs SIU. I wouldn't ever bet on this series as Arkansas State always seems to play out of their minds in Troy.

Great win and let’s get ready for stAte. Arkansas State's offense is comparable to Southern Miss. Playmakers everywhere at receiver so we'll need to have made some serious adjustments in the secondary and hopefully we can get both upperclassmen starters back. Arkansas State is also thin in the secondary so this game could be a deja-vu of the Southern Miss game. Lets come out on top this time.

Ok... but it says they earned their starts and not due to injury get a start. I'm going to read positivity into that. Just heard the injury report and the upperclass starting at safety are out (limited) due to injury. "Earned" is relative here. On the bright side, a lot of young guys are getting reps. WR Demontrez Brown is out for 6 to 8 weeks. RB Jabir Frye has a torn MCL. Safties Kyle Nixon (Jr) and Melvin Tyus (Sr) are lmited today with knee and head injuries. Freshman will start in their place. Bandit Kevin Nixon is starting over Zo Bridges and Jarvis Hayes. Not sure if that's due to injury or if he's had a better week of practice. Fullback Zack Weldon has an injury as well.

So we play Akron this week and their record would lead you to believe that they aren't very good. I say it could be as close as a toss up. What concerns me about this game, is that Akron throws the football and pass defense is our biggest weakness.
Against Illinois they went 10-24 for 122 yards and a pick. Against ua's b team, they went 25-44 for 359 yards and 2 TDs Against directional Michigan, they went 25-41 for 243 yards and 3 TDs and 1 INT.
So these guys throw 40 times a game and if they watch film on us, we could be in Rowell real trouble.
How do we compare size wise their, offense vs our defense. Odds we can get to their QB better than we did last week? Maybe at least disrupt their passing game. Akron is 130 out of 130 teams in sacks allowed (that's last for those of you who are not math savvy). They've given up 6 per game. Southern Miss has given up 4 all year, which includes a game vs Mississippi State who was the S&P+ #1 rated defense last season. Totally different animal in Ohio. Troy's defensive line should live up to the hype Saturday. It's also worth nothing that Southern Miss returned all five starting offensive linemen. Unlike Southern Miss, Akron is going through a coaching change and has entirely new philosophies on both sides of the both. Much of the leadership from last year's team is gone. They return 10 starters on the entire team and only 3 on defense, where Southern Miss returned 10 starters on offense alone, 6 on defense. We faced a seasoned, veteran group last week. Not so much this week. I believe this week will give the Trojans some much needed confidence.

The Troy defense had three freshman starting in the secondary last week due to injuries. It was Troy's first real test with a new coaching staff. This Akron team is not nearly as good as Southern Miss and we get two upperclassmen starters back this week. This is the first real week of film with the pass defense as we weren't tested by the Camels at all. Coach Hall and Coach Brown should be helping the secondary, especially the freshman that played last week, to make better decisions, and they should also be correcting issues with how these guys are schemed. We'll see how this progresses throughout the season as this is a work in progress, but this week versus a much lesser opponent should tell us a lot.

(The HC we don’t speak of) Question: Why in the world is Coach Bama not on the sideline helping to lead that defense. This is one change that needs to be made if you want to try and keep somewhat of the defense we had the past three years. Itâs your call, but just saying Who?

So he will be back next season! This is good news, he has one more year with us! As best of news as it could be I suppose. This year has always looked like a rebuilding year anyway. Next season has a lot of dudes coming back plus those big time transfers will be eligible. Could be a special year if QB play is good.

Guarantee you he never sets foot in Troy, wears that gawd awful blue from now on and never ever thinks about Troy again. When he left, he ran his mouth about MY university. I appreciate what he did, but he basically said f*** y’all as he left, because he got beat out by a better athlete. As for me, I’ll support the university I graduated from... What was the actual quote that has you guys in a fever?
