You know, we may have lost tonight but honestly, I saw real fight in our team. They battled back over and over again and with a first year head coach, I see that as a real positive and strength! So though I don't like that we lost, not one bit, I'm actually rather encouraged when looking at the big picture. You can't say the offense doesn't have the ability to be on absolute fire! The team could have easily become frustrated and emotionally undisciplined and just rolled right on over. However, one on-side kick recovery and I think we might just could have won that game. That offense easily showed that it could produce if we'd have gotten the ball back, even with very little time.
So that's good!
As for the defense. Didn't we kind of have a big question mark about that going into the season or am I forgetting? It was an atrocious display but maybe they'll be able to watch the film, improve the mistakes and adjust as the games roll on. And honestly, SM did have some offensive talent for sure. Anyway, I'm trying to look objectively and at the big picture and that doesn't really look as bad!

We definitely had a BIG question mark on that secondary. They have plenty to work on. We got gutted bad on all those shallow crosses.

We definitely had a BIG question mark on that secondary. They have plenty to work on. We got gutted bad on all those shallow crosses. Some of the issues with the secondary make sense. A lot of new guys flying around with a new DC, with one or two guys being injured. I was still surprised none the less, and it didn't seem like the proper adjustments were being made. What's more baffling is that our defensive line never really seemed to really bother their quarterback. I'm optimistic that some of these things can be fixed with time as our coaches and players get more experience, but I'm also a bit of a realist, and what we all saw was not TMTDM defense. I'd like to chalk some things up to the bye week, and southern miss getting some quality players back, but those would just be excuses. We'll see how the rest of the season goes. I am fully expecting a dominate performance against what appears to be a very bad Akron team, though. The Troy defense needs that, bad.

I agree with all of the above ..... but it’s good to remember that it’s never ok to lose!

Offense is fine Defense a real problem. No pressure on the QB - coverage in space was not good and as someone said, those crossing routes, my goodness. Long season ahead if we have to score 48 points a game to win
but I am still here and will see everyone at 5:00 Sept. 28

We're just one injury short of a total O revamp (Kaleb is vulnerable). I have great faith that Gunnar et al can step in, if needed, and keep things fired up on O.

but it’s good to remember that it’s never ok to lose! It is good to remember that. Also good to be realistic and that nobody can win them all. The totality of the package is very positive and exciting. Some of our more overly dramatic posters are ready to self immolate to show how passionate they care and how upset they are with our defense and secondary, who showed what should have been expected and no great surprise: inexperience and weakness. They dislike the coach after two games because they don't like his personality and are looking for any excuse to gather pitchforks and torches. And they talk about drinking to cure the ills. I say "pour it huge and down it". At least enough to pass out and give the adults in the room a bit of peace. Then we can get a bit more football under our belt and have a better, accurate picture of the team we love.

To my defense, I never liked (The HC we don’t speak of) think he was a desperate hire made by an AD that was halfway out the door and didnât care who was the coach.
Our Defensive coordinator is a joke and will lose us more games that he will win for us. Rowell 2.0.

I don't like to complain about this sort of thing, but if the game had been officiated fairly, we would've had a different result. I'm more and more jumping on the bandwagon that Pass Interference calls/no calls need to be reviewable. The definition of PI can't change depending on who has the ball.
Still a bad defensive performance, though.

The refs 100% costs us at least 6 points, if not 12, and gave them at least 6. Our defense was not clicking and the offense had some sparks, but there wasnt a lot of consistency, in any phase of the game.

The call on the field was fumble, recovered for a TD. It was over turned on replay, by the replay official who said he was down when the ball came out. I couldn't tell, either live of on replay, I just know Martial came out of the pilse with the ball and raan untouched to the end zoned.

Everytime Troy loses in any sport we blame the officials 🤔 the officials didn't give up 600 yards of offense and two kick returns 😖

It would've been a sloppy win, but a win. Officials have killed us I'm games before but I dont remember anything this bad since the UAB 98 yard field

They are going to get their yards this year. My major concerns are the guys running open down the middle of the field, the underneath being wide open on 3rd and 7 plus and gaining 12 plus yards every time, and we’ve got to be able to run the ball. Having said all that it is only game two and we can still be very good. Only time will tell.

Our goal is to win the SBC East and then Conference. Both are entirely possible which = good. What Hemi said - 3rd down defense and we have got to run the ball. I thought D.K. played well.

Are we going to have to run the ball? Yes. That had been our strength and maybe USM knew that and schemed for it which made the pass there. We threw for 500 yards with no int's and scored 42 points. I'll give CL credit he took what was there. Why try to run plays that aren't there for the sake of trying to establish something. If they can't defend the pass run it till they stop it. There will be games where the run is there all night and games where the pass is. There will also be hopefully games where both are. The OC is responsible for running what the defense gives you

I donât think of winning the conference as a goal. I think of winning against the team that is on the field with you as a goal. If you handle that, then the conference title will take care of itself. If you only think of the conference, then some games donât matter. After watching (The HC we don’t speak of) duck the Bama question and then aww shucks the loss, leads me to believe some games donât matter. We used to talk about how we wanted our program to be like Boise, but now it seems we want to be like south bam and duck call u. With this, I donât have to buy season tickets because why pay for the games that donât matter? I can stubhub it when SunBelt comes to town.

As a leader of young men, they hang on your words...every single one of them. If you say this...hey guys this game will tell us where we are in regards to the talent in our conference. So let's go line up and see what happens. (Paraphrased CL comments) Then you get guys buying into a mindset of whatever happens, happens and I don't control anything. If you tell them...hey guys, this team is a great matchup and comparable to our conference opponents this year. Let's go make a statement, crush their will on ever play, win this game and show the conference that TROY is the team to beat this year. You control your own destiny by the effort you out into every play. Win every play and win this game That's our goal. Then you get guys locked in with 100% effort every play with an extreme desire to win the ball game. This is what scares me about CL. I don't need a rah rah guy but I do need a guy that preaches every game matters, every play matters. Not a let's go see what happens guy. Please adjust this mindset CL. As a caveat, this is what excites me about Scott Cross. Preaches winning and teaches how to be a winner.
