We should bring in ringers for key games. Seeing as there are no rules anymore. Let’s hire Brandon Silvers for the Iowa game and maybe some NFL players with legal troubles for when we play south. I’ll be honest and say I haven’t renewed my tickets yet. I’m upset with the game, not Troy. I'm upset with the game too. I am losing interest fast. I can be doing SO MUCH with my time, energy, and resources on Saturday afternoons in the fall. Maybe I'll spend what I did last year on scuba diving this fall instead. I will be there in the fall, every Saturday. It's more than just football or entertainment for me. Tailgate time with lifelong friends is not easily replaced. That said, in the "old days", which was not too long ago, you used your strength as a recruiter, your programs accolades, and your coaches reputation to sign the guys you want and build a great program. Now the competition for recruits has moved from the staff office to the banks. Troy's 8 SBC titles since 2006 don't mean as much when Texas State can sign big time talent just by opening their wallet. I always looked forward to recruiting season, and then the fall to see what we could do. Recent developments have me thinking about football less and less during the down months. Other things on my mind.

What type of offense do you think he’ll run? Air Raid? Run and Gun? Wishbone? Inquiring minds want to know. probably be more of what we have been running. No offense but we have been more successful running more Pro Spread (11, 12) personnel as of late. The air raid has lost a little gas as of late I hope so. Texas State and Georgia Southern run that high flying offense, and neither of them have a defense. Seems to be a trend with those types of offenses. Keep the ship moving.

Texas State's TJ Finley is in the portal. The SBC-West will be wide open. Since it looks like we will be going through a bit of a rebuild, this is good timing.

Ho impressed with this staff....more so than when Pat Summerall was hired. I agree. This is a great looking staff. Their challenges will be far different than Sumrall's staff though. We return 1 starter on defense and most of the two deep is gone. This is a complete rebuild from the ground up. We do return a lot on offense, and should lead the way while the defense is being retooled. There will be a lot of "newness" around Troy football, and it will require patience to see it through. If they come out of the gate like a well oiled machine, I will be very happy, but also very surprised.

Anyone want to dig up his offensive numbers as an OC HC record isn’t very impressive but it’d be interesting to know how his offenses performed 17ppg in his first year at Syracuse. 27ppg in his second year. Not great, but the improvement sticks out to me. Syracuse is not an easy place to win or recruit talent.
As a head coach at WMU, his offenses were in the mid 30's in ppg. He had one year later in his tenure where his team scored 42ppg.
Troy scored 26 ppg and 30 ppg under Sumrall and Craddock.
cardinalblacktrojan, see above. I think he can get us in the 30s and keep us there.

I think it's Tim Lester. Football Scoop reported a while back that we are waiting on the Packer's season to end to finalize the deal. I don't know if that's a courtesy, or if we can't legally sign a deal with him until after the season because of NFL contracts. In the call he did mention that there was a, I think a running back, from the school of the potential OC so it wouldn't be an NFL deal. My memory is a bit hazy on that though. He was the head coach at WMU from 2017-2022. Maybe that's what he was referring to, but nothing would surprise me at this point. Just hope we get a good one, and in my opinion, Lester would be a great hire.

Was hoping to hear who the OC would be at last night's Zoom call. Still in the works apparently but it sounded like it could be any day now. Who are y'all thinking it'll be? I think it's Tim Lester. Also, I get the feeling with our coaches having ties to Notre Dame, WVU, and Houston, we might get some real ballers from the portal to restock our supply.

It's looking like Darl Bauer is going to be our new strength and conditioning coach. This and the Kennesaw DC hire might be my two favorite hires so far. Bauer was Houston's DC, and has a ton of accolades.

Only his time at Georgia Tech sticks out to me as not so hot. But I'm willing to attribute that to the fact that GT just sucks, and is not positioned well in the ACC to get the talent needed be successful there.

I know I had done research on this guy, but somehow I missed this key part of the puzzle: As defensive coordinator for KSU... "Burton's defense at Kennesaw State allowed just 17.9 points and 308.2 yards per game in 2023, the ninth and 15th best marks, respectively, at the FCS level. The Owls were stout in both facets of their defense, holding opponents to 118.8 rushing yards and 189.4 passing yards per game.Secondary Coach in the USFL... "Burton spent the 2022 season as the secondary coach for the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League. With the Breakers, the Lilburn, Ga., native served as the secondary coach for a defense that led the league in fewest points per game (16.4), passing yards allowed per game (163.9) and red zone defense (38.5 percent)."At Georgia Tech (Co-DC)... "Before his stint in the USFL, Burton was the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at his alma mater, Georgia Tech, for two seasons (2020-21). In his first season, the Yellow Jackets ranked in the top 25 nationally in red zone defense and were among the nation's top 40 in pass defense."DC at the DII level... "Burton’s West Alabama defense led the Gulf South Conference (GSC) in rushing defense (2015) and ranked first in total defense, pass defense and interceptions in 2014. While coaching at Shorter, he coordinated the GSC’s No. 2-ranked defense and led the Hawks to a winning record in their transitional season from NAIA to Division II."I'm really jazzed about this. Looks like a great hire. troytrojans.com/news/2024/1/4/troy-football-adds-nathan-burton-as-co-defensive-coordinator?fbclid=IwAR2wvD9M62g0Rs82rDtt2U3bq4S3-yRz_NNIRJMQr-YME-hkilrFZ3hVvos

JMU has had a few transfers withdraw their name already. Until these guys announce a destination, there is a chance some of them will stay at Troy.

I know we're talking about our players going into the portal but is there any chance Coach Parker pulls some good players out of the portal? Not specifically portal related, but we got a JUCO All American DL to commit within the last few days.

Caleb Ransaw and Derrick Graham have entered Jackson DL and Barber WR have entered the portal. Would not be surprised if Chris Lewis ends up there as well. His statement about staying in Troy was before the NCAA granted immediate eligibility to everyone who wants to transfer, and before the new coach was announced. With so many players leaving, he may have New Orleans on his mind. Would love to keep him though.
That said, I was pleased with how well signing day went, but recurring the current roster has not gone well. Jackson, Barber, and McDonald are huge losses. Some of these guys entering the portal have graduated and that's understandable, but there will be more to come I'm sure.
CGP will need to hit the portal hard, and will have to do an incredible coaching job for us to have a great season.

I'd think there's a chance we retain some of our supporting staff since so many kids stayed committed yesterday but I could be wrong thinking that way. That is a blow though because it's another coach to be worried about. I think Craddock would work well under Parker's system if he sets up an offense like he did at ND. Could also set Craddock up to be a future HC if Parker has 2-3 years of success and then leaves. Every time I've seen a successful coach move on, nearly everyone goes with him. Many coaches will follow Jon, and some will choose to go somewhere else. Parker's philosophy will differ from Sumrall's, and he will have coaches of his own that he will bring in instead of retaining everyone he can for the sake of. It would not be unexpected or unusual if we have a completely new staff.

Great day. We landed who we wanted, and still have to spots open for February and portal guys. Will need to grab some dudes from the portal to fill in quite a few defensive positions. Lot a dudes graduating and one or two more likely headed to the NFL.
