I go back to my original post that kicked off this thread. Sounds like my buddies from Kentucky were right! Welcome back HCJS!

Mike Bobo just resigned from Auburn… The rats are jumping off the ship. Bobo may have a shot at another head coaching job as there are so many openings. I’ll bet Cincinnati will lose Coach Fickel to Notre Dame now that Brian Kelly has moved to LSU. The wheels keep turning! Go Troy!

So its Sumrall. Thanks for the heads up. And I say this to say, if you know, say it or at least say it will be announced tomorrow at ________if you know. Saw a Twitter feed post earlier today from the UK community wishing a current coach all the best in his future endeavors. Used to live there and know many UK supporters. The timing should be good for tomorrow.

As previously stated, my guess is that Monday will be the day the Trojan Nation will be introduced to our next head coach. I think it will be someone we all know and the majority on this board will be happy with the decision. We need to support our new HC as he assembles his staff. I wish Coach CL and his staff the very best in their careers.
Go Troy!

This is only my opinion, but my guess is the decision has been made and will be announced following the games this coming weekend. We will likely have our coach by next Monday. He will fly to campus, with his family, and be introduced to the Trojan Nation. I do wish Coach (The HC we don’t speak of) the best, in his 20+ years of coaching, he has never been anywhere this long (3 seasons).
Look on the calendar for November 29 to meet our next Coach. With early recruiting in December, we can't be passive, we must be proactive!
By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

As we have all seen, Commissioner Gill has done a wonderful job being 'proactive' in the recent realignment world, while the CUSA Commissioner Judy MacLeod sat on her laurels and didn't think the Texas/Oklahoma move would impact her world. Keith Gill has saved our conference and made it much stronger. I am wondering if he has any other 'potential moves' up his sleeve?
Here's a thought. It appears MTSU has turned down the offer to join the MAC, WKU is still considering the transition but my guess is they may stick with CUSA, at least for now. I know how many of you on this board feels about those two former Sun Belt schools, but could we see a little more movement on the horizon?
I would be open to adding MTSU and WKU and in return, the Conference lets Arkansas State and Texas State go, along with Arkansas Little Rock and Texas Arlington. CUSA would happily take those schools as UCONN and UMASS will be Football Only members (thus CUSA will need two more all sports additions) and it would give some of their western schools a much more manageable travel footprint (for LA Tech, UTEP, Sam Houston State, and New Mexico State) and would give the Sun Belt a smaller footprint.
The Belt could then divide up between North and South which would be very fan friendly for travel purposes:
North: Marshall, WKU, MTSU, Old Dominion, James Madison, App. State, and Coastal Carolina
South: Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Troy, USA, Southern Miss, Louisiana Monroe, and Louisiana
I open this thread for your thoughts, but this move would make us even more strong in several ways, specifically basketball.
Again, very proud we have Keith Gill leading the way for the Sun Belt.
Go TROY!
Just read that the MAC decided they’d stay at 12 members, so MTSU and Western Kentucky will remain with CUSA, for now. Go Troy!

Best move they can make. MAC is a good fit for WKU and the MUTS don't have a choice and their administration really could care less about sports. They will be competitive in the MAC which is hands down the weakest FBS football conference If MTSU and WKU go to the MAC, this will be the end for CUSA. Having lived in both Murfreesboro and Bowling Green, they will be a better fit playing in the MAC simply based on geography. UTEP and FIU are so far away that this would be better for their budget and their fanbase. I wonder if their suffering from buyers remorse?😀

Not a bad get. We have some ground to make up as we are 3-8 against them all time. So now lets kick fester out and make these buzzards TMTDM fodder. It’s great to have another conference team that’s a reasonable drive from Troy. Also glad the conference has been proactive in our approach and not being the ones gobbled up by CUSA. The CUSA commissioner said she’s had interest from some FBS and FCS schools. My guess is the independent schools around the country like UMASS, UCONN, Liberty, NMSU, and possibly Army. There may be a chance that North Dakota State, Sam Houston State or a few other power FCS schools might want to make a move. I wouldn’t mind giving up Texas State and possibly Arkansas State to have a tighter footprint. Crazy times indeed! Go Troy!

www.deseret.com/platform/amp/2021/10/20/22737447/yet-another-conference-is-reportedly-looking-into-expansion-sun-belt-marshall-southern-miss-libertyDeseret.com says it will be a four school addition to the Sun Belt. Old Dominion and James Madison from Virginia, Marshall from West Virginia and Southern Miss. if this comes to pass, CUSA will be down to 5 schools, FIU, Western Kentucky, MTSU, Louisiana Tech and UTEP. The article says CUSA wants to add Liberty and JMU to get to 10, assuming they don’t lose the three schools to The Belt. What do you think WKU, MTSU, and FIU are thinking knowing they defected less than a decade ago and could soon be without a conference. Guess they could add UMASS, UCONN, Liberty, NMSU, and maybe Army to have a 10 team conference. We must be the aggressor and make a move as quickly as possible! Go Troy!

I say forgive the sinners. Move Troy to the sunbelt west. Sunbelt East: app, wku, mtsu, ga state, ga so, Marshall, coastal, FAU Sunbelt West: ark state, Troy, south, Monroe, la tech, Laffy, southern miss, Texas state Most of the historical rivalry games are intact with the teacher's colleges and Louisiana schools. We also pick up bowl options. Win-win. Adapt an SEC rival type schedule and rotate the rest. Southern Miss, South Alabama, and MTSU each year fill the Vet. My guess is that the Mountain West will take UTEP and possibly go after Texas State and maybe Arkansas State. Also could get NMSU and even LaTech. We need to be the aggressors and send invitations to the CUSA teams we want immediately. No time to be passive. FIU will be the only program remaining in Florida since the AAC wants FAU to go with South Florida. We need to go after the teams we want. Interesting times for sure! Go Troy!

I have a strong feeling that Cornelius will land on his feet, maybe sooner than later. He has a lot to offer another program. There's always a silver lining when this type of incident occurs. We were blessed to have him here at Troy. Who knows, he may come back one day and coach again in the Vet.

I enjoyed the wins this weekend. Winning is fun. Losing is not fun. I don’t really enjoy losing. I will celebrate the wins. I won’t cry over the losses. Timing is everything. It appears the Mighty Trojans have found their stride at the right time of the season. If we can keep up this momentum, then it could be an interesting Sun Belt Tournament. Go TROY!

I was in school with Denise, we lived in Clements Hall at the same time. She was a class act, very personable and sweet. She represented Troy as an Olympian in 1980, the year that President Carter decided we would not go since it was being held in the Soviet Union. We were lucky to have her here at Troy, such a great athlete and lady. Got to see her during the Hall of Fame induction at the Trojan Arena a few years ago.

If the Sun Belt is committed to playing football this Fall, then to help all our schools, why not play 9 Conference games? It would seem to help fill the scheduling holes created by the schools cancelling football. If we play MTSU twice, then we would only need one more game to complete the 12 game schedule.
It is likely that some of the schools in the Conferences that decide to not play this Fall will go rouge and want to find teams to play starting in September. My guess is both the Big 10 and Pac 12 will bail out so there may be a few of those programs that will want to schedule games to play in the coming months.
I suppose we need to wait and see where the chips fall, then determine next steps.

Since the college football world is in its current state of turmoil, with so many conferences cutting schedules back or not playing at all, we need to sign an agreement with the SEC and ACC to fill out our schedules for the upcoming season. With the Sun Belt and CUSA geographic footprint aligned with the SEC and ACC, it would only make sense to partner together through this season.
Troy already has one ACC and SEC opponent, NC State and Tennessee respectively, along with Independent UMass. We have one open game, week one, since the SWAC has now dropped football for 2020. Not sure if UMass will survive the season so we may have two openings to fill.
If traveling is a major concern during COVID, then staying within our general geographic region is the best option. Singing a pact with the other conferences in our area could help to get us through this season and play teams that would create interest for our fan base.
Not sure if Auburn would be interested in playing Troy, but with our coaching connection, and with their opening date aligned with our week one open date, it may be plausible.
Just wanted to throw out this option as a discussion point.
Go TROY!

We will definitely miss Coach Sumrall and his family but I'm certain the opportunity was too good to pass up. Would love to see them back in Troy some day down the road. As painful as it is for the Trojan Nation, it says a lot about our program and the staff that leads them.

So what is our biggest weakness next year? I hope its 100 degrees on this day. Our kids will be use to it and Boise - not so much. Here is hoping for a 2:30 Kick or earlier. The heat and humidity is our friend on this day. It will be a tough one for us to win but I have no reason to believe we cannot do it. I like a high noon kick off but TV will determine that! I was thinking the same thing Redwaver, would be fun to open at high-noon (or even 11 AM) with temperatures rising during the game to help our friends from Idaho enjoy some of our late summer heat! Could play to our advantage. As you say, TV will dictate the kick-off time. Would love for GAMEDAY to visit Troy in our season opener, could show off the new-look stadium to the nation over the Labor Day weekend!
Go TROY!
