The staff Sumrall is putting together is extremely impressive.

Former 4-Star and #1 ranked JUCO receiver. Didn't do much at UAB, but maybe he'll have a chance to shine in a new environment.
He turned 23 catches into 394 yards this year.

Considering who the OC is they may have to build another room for the TEs and FBs. Maybe Charles Strong can get some playing time as a fullback. He was moved to linebacker under the previous staff. He would definitely fit that role. Jaylen Nobles up the road at Slocomb - with a little bit more weight - would be a good fit, too.

Troy will have to decide where the TE Room is going to be since we've never cared enough about that position to have one. lol. They can use the old Fullback room. Considering who the OC is they may have to build another room for the TEs and FBs.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would hire him as an assistant at any school at this point. This is the second time he has been hired and then left for another job less than a month later.

I believe they have a giant portrait of that hanging in the press box.

If you’re a true Trojan, how is HCJS not “your coach” as well as mine? We’ve had enough division among fans for 3 years. We don’t need any more of it now. Evidently it's because he hasn't signed a "light skinned" QB yet.

Along with racist comments, grammar and spelling wasn't your subject either. It is " I have coached" not I have coach. If Troy is going to win, not Troy going to win. It is dual not duel. Nick Saban " recruits and plays " not recruit and play. We "are" running a spread" not we running and it is "Non" mobile quarterbacks not "none mobile. The auto correct done that on my phone. We will never win with your mentality. My comment wasn't racist. If you went to any game and not seeing what I am seeing from our Quarterback play, I understand why we will continue too lose. Saying "we need a mobile quarterback" is one thing but you didn't say that.

I don't understand that comment either. Nick Saban is not concerned about anything other than the best player at the QB or any other position. Let me HELP each of you out about what I am saying. For starters, I have coach 2 State Football Championships. If troy going to win any type Big Game, we need to get a Duel Threat Quarterback in our Quarterback Room who can extend the play, due too our offensive line play over the last 3 years. Nick Saban recruit and play the best person to win games. At Troy University, we are not doing that. We running a spread offense with none mobile Quarterbacks. Do I think Coach John Sumrall was the best Coach for the Troy job, in my opinion no; but, I support the AD decision. However, I think we are going back to experimental stage like we done with Coach (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). I would have went after a Dan Mullins who has was successful at Mississippi State. Over the last 10 years, we have had 7 losing seasons. So, your answer to "we need a dual threat QB" is "we need to get us one of them light skinned ones?" Good lord. If you really have that mindset and are a former state champion coach, I truly hope the FORMER there is because no one would knowingly allow you to have anything to do with their high school kids.

One thing that we absolutely have got to do is get a recruiter for Florida. This just isn't me talking these are High School coaches with Troy connections that never see a Troy coach I'd agree with that but getting a staff that doesn't shy away from recruiting the Wiregrass should be important, too. When you got running backs in your back yard putting up 3,000 yards and Troy doesn't so much as look their way it's pretty ridiculous. Just my opinion.

Troy plays the third stringers in a blowout win. Win by 4+ touchdowns. Such a bold prediction must be reviewed on game day. I hope to give you props for calling it. He's being conservative with four TDs.

We only called 2 timeouts the second half. 10 second runoff should have never happened. We had 1 timeout left. This is not accurate. All three were used. The caveat there is that when Troy called the third timeout, a Ark State player was injured on the field. If I'm not mistaken Troy should have gotten that third timeout back because of that, but I couldn't get anyone to clarify after the game. I also believe there was 14 seconds left on the clock when the Troy injury happened, meaning they should have got four seconds back even with the run off. Doesn't matter now, though.

If yall don't want to talk football, then why are you here? Why not retort with something like... their pass game is not strong, or our offense will score too much. Their pass game is not strong, Troy's offense will score too much.

Not really,5-9 174 got burned plenty........He got hot on some returns but I guarantee we will fill his vacancy nicely, and he very possibly won’t play anymore than he’s promised at whatever school he lands.Trons was a tackling machine so will be missed but he wasn’t coming back regardless. This really isn’t much of a blip on the screen Yep, that's some pretty awful revisionist history.

He originally signed with Birmingham but late last year the AAF held a QB Draft where each team would "draft" any QB signed in the AAF in five rounds. Teams had the choice to "protect" a QB or draft another teams QB in each round. I believe Memphis chose Silvers in the third round.

I just talked with Coach Faulkner, we were supposed to talk a couple of weeks ago but his schedule has been understandably packed past few weeks, and I'll post that story here when it goes up. He seems pumped to be on Chips staff.

TROY, Alabama â Fresh off its third straight 10-win season, Troy football has set its dates for the first spring practice under head coach (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). The Trojans open spring camp on March 19 and will host their annual T-Day Spring Game at noon on April 20 at The Vet.
âIâm really looking forward to getting out on the field and getting to know our players,â (The HC we don’t speak of) said. âWeâve been focused hard on closing out the recruiting class, and the staff has been on the road a lot since coming on board. Weâll have a month to prepare for spring practice and really evaluate our players on film before we get them on the field.â
Troy, which is one of just eight programs nationally with at least 31 wins over the last three seasons, returns 15 offensive and defensive starters from last yearâs squad that finished 10-3 and defeated Buffalo in the Dollar General Bowl.
Offensively, the Trojans return a wealth of talent with four starters along the line, first team running back B.J. Smith, an explosive playmaker in Tray Eafford at receiver and the quarterback duo of Kaleb Barker and Sawyer Smith.
The Trojans must replace three All-Sun Belt receivers from last season in Damion Willis, Deondre Douglas and Sidney Davis. However, the addition of top JUCO receivers Reggie Todd and Khalil McClain should ease the transition.
The quarterback room will be crowded with five scholarship signal callers on the roster for the spring. Joining Barker and Smith will be redshirt freshman Gunnar Watson in addition to former Vanderbilt quarterback Jacob Free and true freshman Gavin Screws.
âWe have to do a great job getting all the quarterbacks some reps,â (The HC we don’t speak of) said. âAt some point weâre going to have to have a pecking order, but the big thing for us is getting them reps early so we can get a good evaluation.â
On the other side of the ball, Troy returns eight All-Sun Belt performers in addition to Freshman All-America linebacker Carlton Martial. The Trojans ranked third nationally in turnovers forced last season while finishing 10th in sacks and 16th in tackles for loss.
âOur system is going to be similar, but we will still be installation heavy in the spring,â (The HC we don’t speak of) said. âYouâre always trying to start from scratch in the spring and build from there because itâs a different year. This year will be different from last year just like it was different from 2017; different areas of the game are emphasized because your roster is always evolving with different strengths.â
Troy is allotted 15 practices during the spring, and the Trojans will hit the field every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for five weeks in March and April.
âThis is an opportunity to get a fresh start with some guys and for others to redefine their roles on this team,â (The HC we don’t speak of) said. âIâm looking forward to getting on the field and seeing our guys compete.â
The Trojans open the 2019 season on Aug. 31 against Campbell in The Vet.
2019 Troy Football Spring Practice Dates
March â 19, 21, 23, 26, 28, 30
April â 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20 (T-Day)

Sawyer can be developed, esp with (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) being our HC/OC now. He developed both Nick Mullens and Hutson Mason. I think (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) is a top QB coach + he will be supported by Cole Weeks. XCNB might be the better playcaller/offensive mind but (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) seems to be the better (QB) coach. I like Sawyers deep balls - they are deadly. Free seems to be the better passer overall, but he is not quite as mobile as Barker and Smith. But he will compete, he is smart and has the best arm out of the bunch... I think whoever will be the starter next season, will do great things for us. ...and NOBODY talking about Gunner Watson, who, IAW a previous coach, is THE BEST QB of the bunch!!! Honestly, I agree. Every practice/scrimmage I went to he stood out. Dude is massive, too. Legit 6-4, 215 or somewhere in that range. Same with Free. Both of those guys have that NFL prototypical size and arm strength. I would say that Free can do more of what (The HC we don’t speak of) typically wants with the dual threat stuff than Watson, though and the dual threat stuff is why I think Barker (along with everything he did last year before the injury) is why I'm giving him the edge. I would not be surprised at all if any of the others end up winning that spot.

I will be surprised if Jacob Free wins the starting QB position at Troy next year. I will not.
