All but official, with multiple sources reporting. Statistically, this is not a good hire, but maybe Sumrall knows something I don't.
Scoring Offense
2019: 110th (Arkansas) 2018: 114th (Arkansas) 2017: 12th (SMU) 2016: 71st (SMU) 2015: 71st (SMU)
Former MTSU QB, 2005-2008. Thought the name sounded familiar.

Lot of people I know think he’s a good football coach but got thrown into the fire a little to quick as an OC at the P5 level. I’ll be interested to see if these last two years at UAB have helped him take a step back and prepare for an opportunity like this.

Offensive philosophy? I used his best year at smu as a fair reference for “what went right”… seems pretty balanced. Close to 4K passing and over 2K rushing. 38 pass attempts and 38 rushes a game.

I'm not sure how to feel about it.
I like that he's a young guy. He was the youngest OC in SEC history and a Broyles Award nominee... which is better than no nomination.
He's also learned quite a bit under Chad Morris, who has always had a well-regarded offensive philosophy.
UAB fans seem bummed about losing him. Some of them seemed to hope that he would be OC at UAB.

This seems like an odd roll of the dice by CJS on his most important hire. Were we misled on the pool of money available for assistants?

I’m sure he has learned a lot but he also probably didn’t have much autonomy when working under cHad Morris. I’m sure Morris called plays. We will have to see what he does but I’m good with this.

Ugh. Looks like “home cookin, promise type” hire.
He is not a good OC. Let’s hope he learned something in the one year as the UAB TE coach before being the OC for two years at the bottom of the entire FBS.

Guy hasn’t even signed the contract and people are already dropping negative comments! Give HCJS credit for knowing more about football and coaches than you do! Same people dogged out DCBH after year one.

I trust HCJS.
That means reestablishing culture. Building up men of TROY. Running a solid program. Hiring a solid staff and making tough decisions if any don’t hold up to the standards.
From what you’ve seen so far of Coach Sumrall Ask yourself this question: Is he someone who will accept any less than excellence?
I know my answer to this question.

I think this will be a better hire than some believe.
Sounds like Craddock will bring in a App State-type of offense, except with a fast-paced style and misdirection schemes... exactly what Sumrall wanted.

Nah. Going Possum style on this one. He not a good OC. Maybe by magic he becomes good. We’ll see. Why is he not a good OC? Why is a good one hire ? Everyone clamoring on here he is just a great hire. They didn’t know his name before this thread stated. His track record as OC is abysmal. I was so excited about this OC hire, so many young dynamic OC out there that are lighting it on fire. I was just disappointed he was picked, that’s all. But JS is the coach, he gets to hire his staff. I wish and want only the best offense this guy can produce. If he does the job he gets paid to do and we score a lot of touchdowns I will be the happiest guy in the stands. If he fails again, I will still be happy about spending time at Troy with friends and family but disappointed majorly that our Trojans suck again. It’s time for Troy to become a perennial winner.
