I know for a FACT that the band is only going to USA and GS. Full band to USA and a pep band to GS. Unfortunately, it appears as though the band budget shrinks every year. My first year in SOTS (2011), I believe we took a band to every game except the Arkansas and Clemson games. This is my first year out of the band. It seems like every year, administration shrunk our travel budget... It seems like they could bus them over on the day of the game and head straight back after. How much could that cost? I guess it doesn't work like that. Actually, that was the proposal to administration. The proposal also included the band performing at a high school competition in GA (the band's form of recruiting). That trip was chosen over the USM game. Not sure of the reason. But know that SOTS is ready to THROW DOWN at the next home game. And they also can't wait to DESTROY South Alabama.

I assumed it was something to that end. Thank you for the information. Do you think the band will only travel to the Georgia Southern and USA games? Too bad y'all couldn't bring them. I hope we bring our band on the return trip. I know for a FACT that the band is only going to USA and GS. Full band to USA and a pep band to GS. Why no band 2 weeks running? Was this the predetermined band schedule? The band travel schedule is determined by university administration instead of band staff. The band staff sends over a budget that includes costs for attending ALL games. University administration chooses the trips and informs the band staff where they will be going.

Y'all put a bunch of grown men on the field Saturday. We were not too happy for most of the game in the Clemson section I was in. I look forward to pulling for you the rest of the way! #33 is a beast and I was impressed with your fan support! Good luck the rest of the way! Thank you! Our experience in Clemson was very pleasant. Everyone we spoke to welcomed us to Clemson and told us to enjoy our day. Great environment!

The cheerleaders have started something new this year. They have a microphone/speaker system set up in front of the student section. They are trying to encourage the students to join in the cheers and such (especially when we are on defense). I heard it from across the stadium last week and I'm hoping it grows into something that works. I think that the fans in the end zone feed off the student section and band. I'm hoping it catches on throughout the season. We need everyone to be loud and be proud!! Especially when crApp State and Ark. State visit this fall. GO TROJANS! This won't last long. If I remember anything about my time in the student section during Trojan games was that it was not for the easily offended. I used a lot of "colorful" language after "pre-gaming" before heading in. This will last until the microphone picks up someone dropping an F Bomb. Clarification: A male cheerleader is using the microphone so the students can all cheer the same thing with the cheerleaders and band. It shouldn't pick up any "extras."

Is anyone making the trip to Clemson? What section are you sitting in? I contacted Rachel in the ticket office, and she said Troy's tickets are in sections S, T, V, and W. I just want to be with the rest of Trojan Nation.

Hello, Trojan fans! This is quite a lengthy post with some of my thoughts I had from Trojan Tour this year.
I attended one of the Trojan Tour stops last month. During the AD's portion of the event, he mentioned wanting to get "younger" fans involved in Troy athletics to eventually become lifelong fans. As a "young" Trojan (I am a senior at TroyU), this got me thinking... What would get us younger fans more involved in Trojan athletics and eventually want to become Trojan Warriors?
I will admit this: I grew up in a home that lived and breathed Alabama athletics. But with the credibility of the John M. Long School of Music, I knew that Troy was where I needed to be. And my decision proved to be one of the best I ever made. From the moment I stepped on campus in Fall 2011, everything about Troy just fit. The campus, the faculty, and the students just "made sense."
I've always loved sports, and the sports at Troy have not disappointed in excitement. However, I've always wondered why my fellow students weren't as excited as I was about Troy athletics. And I think I have a good idea as to why...
All my life, I had heard about great players in Alabama history. The great wins. The bitter losses. These stories made me INVESTED in Alabama athletics. Here in Troy, I have met some wonderful Trojans that are lifelong members of Trojan Nation. They tell me the stories of the great players in Troy history. The great wins. The bitter losses. These stories have me INVESTED in Troy athletics now.
Perhaps the athletic department could do something to help get younger fans invested in the tradition and legacy of Troy athletics. We need to hear stories of DeMarcus Ware. We need to hear about guys like Clint Robinson. And I'm sure there are hundreds of famous athletes from Troy that I still don't know about. Why don't we hang up huge banners in all the stadiums/arena of famous athletes from that sport? Let students recognize that greatness comes from Troy University Athletics. How about we host a "Trojan Greats Night" in Trojan Arena? Let older fans tell stories of Troy's legacy to students. That would be an awesome event!
I kicked myself after the Trojan Tour event for not speaking up during the Q&A session. And I'm really hoping that someone from the athletic department is reading this post. I would love to talk to someone in athletics about my ideas. I think they would go far in investing current students in Troy and hopefully getting them to become lifelong Trojans. I know that I've already made the decision to be a lifelong supporter of all things Troy.
Thank you for your time in reading this! You can always contact me at jsteinman@troy.edu if you would like to speak to me about any ideas.

Hi! Perhaps you would like to hear from a current member of the band?
Firstly, THANK YOU for supporting the Sound of the South! We appreciate you!
We are typically not "in it" for the recognition. We love music. We love band. And we love Troy. We realize that almost all fans are there for the football game. (That's why it's called a football game and not a marching band concert.) But we also know there are several fans there for the band (either alumni or family members).
Now, don't get me wrong... We DO love to hear people say "thank you." When an athletic director or a head coach comes to practice to personally thank us or say, "You rock," it means the world to us. And for those of you that don't know, the band department has an INCREDIBLE relationship with the athletic department. You will NOT find this relationship at any other university.
Our biggest fan, Chancellor Hawkins, ALWAYS talks to the band personally at the beginning of each football season. And he always gets thunderous applause when he tells us that we always win the "Battle of the Bands."
So if you see one of us band kids on campus, say "thank you." It really does mean a lot to know that our work doesn't go unnoticed.
BLOW SOTS!

I don't think any officials have it out for any particular teams. I do think there is s severe shortage of good officiating teams. Especially at this level. The best crews go to the marquee games. A lot of times it seems like you have one person on a crew that isn't as good as the other two. Good point. I never try to blame officials for outcomes, but this one really bugged me.

Picture it:
Cajun Dome. ULL leads the Lady Trojans by one point. Less than one minute to play. Trojans grab defensive rebound. ABK tries to set up her offense. Shot clock now below 30. Then it happens.
Refs signal for a TO called by Chanda Rigby. Only thing is... She didn't call it.
I always expect sub-par officiating in this conference, but a phantom TO?! That's ridiculous. I honestly believe that HUGE error cost us a W. When will the SBC hold officials accountable for their actions? Is there anything that we, as fans, can do to advocate for our teams? They work their tails off only to be screwed by pitiful officials.

I've heard rumors that the Troy/USA game is getting close to a sellout. Anybody with close ties to the athletic department have any confirmation on this??? USA has supposedly sold out Sections 101 and 103 according to their fans, and are trying to fill half of 105. It also appears they will have quite a few walk-up fans to by tickets at the stadium. Also, Ticketmaster no longer has any tickets to the game and StubHub has sold out. Only VividSeats still has any tickets left, and they are all for one row in the endzone section. Any info? Would be great if we had a huge, energetic crowd. Remember, their marching band takes up section 101. They've really only sold tickets for section 103.

I didn't like the belt at first but I have to be honest... It has grown on me the past couple of days. I just don't like the title "Battle for the Belt."
I'm a current TROY student, and the current student body is ready to DESTROY the Jags. And we don't care what we win as long as we get the W.
However, we should focus on beating the opponent and not beating each other up. Let's go, Trojans!! Whup South!!!
