Picture it:
Cajun Dome. ULL leads the Lady Trojans by one point. Less than one minute to play. Trojans grab defensive rebound. ABK tries to set up her offense. Shot clock now below 30. Then it happens.
Refs signal for a TO called by Chanda Rigby. Only thing is... She didn't call it.
I always expect sub-par officiating in this conference, but a phantom TO?! That's ridiculous. I honestly believe that HUGE error cost us a W. When will the SBC hold officials accountable for their actions? Is there anything that we, as fans, can do to advocate for our teams? They work their tails off only to be screwed by pitiful officials.

I don't think any officials have it out for any particular teams. I do think there is s severe shortage of good officiating teams. Especially at this level. The best crews go to the marquee games. A lot of times it seems like you have one person on a crew that isn't as good as the other two.

Or the Troy Excuse Club will tell you to grow up and reply with a weak diatribe about this or that usually amounting to nothing. If lucky you might get a picture of a fruit or unoriginal internet meme.

These may have been new officials and are building their team. We need to give them four or five years to get used to working together. If they don't make the right calls after the fourth year ...................... LOL

The same people that want to keep coaches after 5 losing seasons are the same ones that want the officials gone after a bad game.

A lot of times it seems like you have one person on a crew that isn't as good as the other two. I have officiated sports for 33 years. I officiated basketball for 25 years, 15 at the D-I level. I can tell you that, on a Saturday, the most experienced officials with the best reputations will not be in a Sunbelt venue. For a mid-week game you are more likely to have one or more "top officials" on a mid-major conference game. As Hemi stated, it is a numbers game and the top officials will be calling in the power conferences on Saturday. If and when the officials we see regularly in the Sunbelt earn a reputation as a top official, we will not see them as much. In every sport, at every level beyond rec league, you have officials who are honing their craft to move to the next level, officials who have plateaued at the top of their ability and/or desire, and even occasionally former higher level officials who, because of a variety of reasons, are now officiating at a level lower than where they peaked. The above is especially true for team sports that play more than once per week (pretty much everything except football).

Complaining about officials only happens when you lose

Complaining about officials only happens when you lose Troystet, your response is short, concise and accurate. +1 to you.

agree - officials are only bad when you lose LOL!! I can vouch for this sentiment by the average fan, parent, coach and player. Officials kind of view good and bad differently when evaluating without a rooting interest.

Every time Troy loses a football, basketball or baseball game we get the "officials or umpires are horrible and cost us the game". With that theory every time Troy wins it must be because the same officials and umpires made bad calls against the other team

The sbc doesnt target Troy I assure you... I've see every conference member fan base complain about their officiating in this league.

Specifically, hard to pin any one loss on a Ref (well, there WAS that Hail Mary Miracle TD at UAB!).... Generally, Sunbelt officiating is sub-par!!
GO TROJANS!!!

If you mean generally not at the same level as the SEC, ACC, Big 12, or Big 10, I would agree. Sunbelt officiating is generally on par with Conf USA, American, MAC and even PAC 12 officiating. When Sunbelt officials show the ability to officiate at a higher level, they are usually given an opportunity to do so. A few won't take the opportunity but most do.

saw an official who called a Troy game recently calling a big SEC matchup last week - our officials are as good as any when it comes to basketball

saw an official who called a Troy game recently calling a big SEC matchup last week - our officials are as good as any when it comes to basketball I wouldn't go that far. Some of the officials who are assigned to some Sunbelt games are as good as any. It would be rare for then Sunbelt to have an entire crew of top level officials on the same game, except for possibly our tournament championship game. Basketball (and most other sports other than football) typically has regional assigning so that on a slow night for the SEC or ACC we will get more of the better officials than we would on a busy night in the power conferences.

The official I saw calling the SEC game in my mind was the 2nd best official caling the Troy game - he was not the lead official for sure I am sure there are games where we don't have the best, but I think they are pretty good
