I've thought he should go since he arrived years ago. Not only is he horrible at reporting the details of the play (ball placement, yardage gained etc.), he can't even get our players names right. He pronounced Jamal Stadom's last name as StaNdom multiple times before finally getting it right. Maybe my Tweet to @ troyfb helped.

I don't think it is the same guy from years past. The guy was last night was beyond horrible. I know the Sam Lebbie and Jabir Frye both wear #5, but I promise that it was NOT Jabir Frye making tackles on the defensive side of the ball. I'm not sure that the guy last night is very familiar with American football, or a microphone, or phonics!

I'm assuming you guys are talking about the PA announcer at the game? If so, he was not the same one we have had all these years and I thought he was excellent. I agree he made some mistakes BUT he was not trying to be a cheerleader like the other dude always did. New guy was announcing the game as the position calls for. I liked it and hope he comes back. I know a lot about Troy but I've never known who the mysterious voices were behind the mic.

Given that, I'm willing to cut him a little slack, but he needs to, at a minimum, learn to pronounce our guys names correctly before the next home game. They deserve that.

I agree that he doesn't need to "be a cheerleader," but he was too flat and his inability to say 2nd and 5 on the 34 yard line, or to pronounce names, or to even get the right players off the roster shows a lack of knowledge and preparation. He was truly horrible. When ny 10 year old daughter who cares nothing about football begins commenting on the announcer.....he has failed!

I thought the PA guy was absolutely awful. For all the reasons noted above plus announcing first downs when the second down had already begun. Just terrible.

Hmmm, if this were a poll, we're at 1 vote + vs 7 --. True, it doesn't take much knowledge of football to know when the D #5 is on the field vs the O #5. cornhole knew it was "new" announcer when he never said "and that's another, TROJAN.... (FIRST DOWN)!

It was incredibly noticible and by that I am conflicted....I did not want to too critical but over and over the announcer gave the crowd incorrect information in all regards from which player made the tackle to the yardage etc...I even smiled for on occasion I would tune back in to the announcer and just as before the information would be atrociously erroneous and then just laugh when I heard something correct. I do not know who this announcer is but he either needs a new spotter or we need to have a different announcer.. The program is doing some really good things and our stadium announcer needs to be at least a average high school announcer level....there maybe extenuating circumstances and so please improve ...and good luck but please try to improve

I know a lot about Troy but I've never known who the mysterious voices were behind the mic. I think if there are 80,000 or 100,000 crazed fans in the stands, you might be able to have an announcer just say "Chunn, at right tackle" and that's basically it. But with game situations like ours ... you've got to "assist" the enthusiasm/crowd noise, etc. Whether it's the announcer saying, "let that dEfense hearya" ... or something like that ... or it's electronic/music ... or a combination. We've got to improve the quality of the product, and help pick up the crowd, etc. It's just like having the band play at certain times to help the atmosphere. When you go to other schools ... there's a much better production. We really struggle with "little things" ... pronouncing our own names correctly, knowing basic football terminology, timing in announcements, etc. And omg ... when we were on the field at halftime and they did the "video montage" for the 2001 team ... and it's just still shots and AC/DC playing!! That's awful!! They did the same thing for the last couple of Hall of Fame inductions! Not, if that were the 1901 team ... ok, maybe there wasn't a great deal of video to choose from ... but 2001!!! It was so bad, it was awkward!!! These are things that don't take big money!! You can get some 20 somethings who know video/music ... and they could coordinate our entire game presentation and make it seem more professional! So, as much as I'd love to say we've got a rabid and knowledgable fan base and our game day atmosphere will be electric without any "assistance" ... i just ain't so! There needs to be more and better coordinated Production quality!! It is Entertainment $$$ we're fighting for as well!

Professionalism has not been a consistent Hallmark of Trojan Athletic planning, organization and execution. Too little creativity, too little accountability, too little communication, too little thinking?? Several thimgs this weekend were prime examples but let's not elaborate. Good ideas but were executed as afterthoughts. Gad, It's the NEW MILLENIUM already! Not the just "git 'er done" mentality of yesteryear. Are we relegating all the creativity, productivity and communication down the GA or student assistant ranks?? Appears so to me.

There needs to be more and better coordinated Production quality!! It is Entertainment $$$ we're fighting for as well! I agree. We talked during the off season about things that needed improving, the production value of the game environment was near the top. I recommended the staff attend multiple NBA, NFL, MLB and minor league games. The 2001 halftime thing was painful. I think you could absolutely use students to handle the music (pre-approved of course). I did hear the announcer say "4th and 3rd", I just hate the "cheerleader PA type". I'm good with an actual cheerleader having a mic though. For the love of all that is good, show replays!!! Everyone else does, let us see the controversial plays that everyone on TV is watching. At the end of the day it's nice that we won big so we can complain about these things.

Good point jonesoxyman! Replays have ALWAYS been far and few between at The VET. I thought at one time that it was an NCAA/SUNBELT thing but at away games we see almost every play on replay, even the controversials!!! What gives here??
You're right sir, we have space to notice and complain about the minor details!!

The Admin and Athletic Admin is riddled with small time Pike County mindset. This is exhibit 24. Where is AD whatshisname? He is like a ghost compared to our recent ones. Hearing he runs a loose ship. Onward right

"Pike County Mindset". Now that's a good verbalization of your observation sir!!
I'd at least think that a "Pike Road" or "Montgomery" mindset would foster better execution based on where the admin folks reside?? I am beginning to sense that major change is needed way above my pay grade here!

I noticed right away it wasn't the same guy. I like our usual announcer. He has more enthusiasm than most of the fans at the game and keeps it rolling along smoothly. Let's face it, for a long time we've needed someone to try and wake up the crowd and get them going. Though I did laugh when the announce pointed out to everyone that it was third down and they suddenly realized they were supposed to cheer/make noise. Other than that amusing moment, the guy this weekend was a bit flat and seemed to struggle. Anyone know what happened to our usual announcer and is he permanently gone or was this just a holiday weekend for him?
