I know I'm a bit late on the "clean house" thread ... but just thinking on this some. I think there are some good coaches on the staff. The team is a mess right now and they haven't succeeded, but good coaches don't always succeed! I think the new coach might keep some of the staff ... some of the newer guys had good reputations coming in. I do want to defend KE. He's been a very successful offensive coach ... at UNA and then during his time here. Even over the past several years when we've been loosing, offense has rarely been the issue. (I believe we've been in top 20 range in offense every year) Most of you think highly of Coach Schlarman ... well, he thought highly of Kenny. Talking to Schlarman at camps, etc., Kenny help "tweek" the Franklin/Brown system, especially in bolstering the run game. Most of you who've played/coached know there's a fine line between success and failure ... lots of "what ifs". What if Silvers had Jernigan to drop it off to like Robinson did his first year? What if Silvers had more touch on his long balls (I can think of several times we had guys open deep and it was usually overthrown ... then underthrown. All the bubble screens/short patterns are there to open those deep routes, and they were open but couldn't execute). What if Deon Anthony had been a year behind Robinson? (that kid could play!!) What if he did have Schlarman still working with the OL and run game?? So, I know when you lose and change coaches ... the house gets cleaned. That's part of the profession. But, that doesn't mean everyone of the coaches became worthless ... it's just that this situation needs to be changed. Just my 2 cents.

Love that story!! Grew up with Brick! Played Jr High and HS with him. Tough son of a gun! No doubt ... if 2-3 inches taller would've been big time recruit (still could've played DI if given opportunity.) Tough ... but caring and generous too. He's come back to do free camps here in Gadsden. Also, started a Golf Tourney to raise funds for Autism last summer. (We'd love to have many of you guys come up next summer and play!)

I don't think Nutt is really in the mix.

I'm sure all (but Nutt) could do the job! If these are the finalists ... I think Tommie would be my favorite. Very solid guy! Smart, tough, disciplined!! I think really good HC material!! (I was Freshman when he was senior ... would knock $%^& out of you!) I love Malzan's offence. So, if Lashlee brought that ... that could be good. Doesn't require huge, dominating O-linemen ... simple schemes .. focus on execution, match-ups and taking advantage of what defense gives. Again, I'm sure Wilson is a sharp guy and qualified ... but if there's a finalist off of the LSU staff, Brick Haley should be that man!! Brick has much broader experience (including NFL) ... has won several National "best recruiter" awards over the years! Also, something that shocked me in this process ... Steve Campbell wasn't contacted!

Made a point to watch some of the young guys on defense ... there's some potential. (granted, GSU is weak) The LBs: #5 Lebbie is a beast! Know he was highly touted when he came in last year and then injury. Watching him Saturday, he moves really well! Physical! Also, covered well ... especially down the seam where we've been hurt so badly the last few years. #26 has a nose for the ball! Also, couple young DTs did well: #94 did well when in ... and is true Fresh. The new staff will have some good young players to work with I think! And, these are kids that will be around for a few years.

Again, if we're hiring off of the LSU Staff ... Brick Haley would be a great choice!! Experienced, talented, and motivated!!

I have feeling that we might have a coach. Certainly a final few. And, yes ... I think it'll be by/before the Dec. 1 date.

He was OC at Middle Tn and O-line/run coor. at Miss St. He is certainly "qualified". As i'm sure all the tops guys are ... At least in eyes . of committe and AD.

That 1st yr coach at UCA has D1 experience, and as D1 coordinator. Also 2 decades as a head coach. He's qualified ... He may not get the job, but he'd be qualified. I'm sure all the finalists are "qualified" ... It'll be about "fit", contract, etc.

Insane, Indeed! Surely this is just smoke. If there's "chatter" about Rush getting the job, I would assume he started it! Hope we go for someone with class.

A thought I had last night ... I really feel for the players/coaches. I don't know the players ... but do know some of the coaches. I know those guys have done the best they could. They haven't succeeded, but that happens sometimes. I know some have said the players/coaches have "quit" ... I don't know, maybe some have. But I think they are demoralized! I can't imagine what those guys are going through. I never experience a losing season as a player (went 6-4 soph yr at troy ... that was awful!). As a HS coach, we suffered a couple 3-7 type seasons over the years. But I can't imagine how tough it is on these kids and coaches. I know the coaches are grown ups and this is their chosen profession. For the players, you know they all wanted/hoped to win! So, as demoralizized/sad/mad as it makes us fans/alums, etc. ... you have to know these guys are suffering. I hope they can all learn some life lessons and move on! Anyway ... just a thought!

Good deal ... no problem! I know we're all here because we love Troy! Having the opportunity to play at Troy ... for the coaches we had and with the guys I played with ... Changed my life!! Winning, of course, has a lot to do with it. I really hate the Blakeney era has ended this way ... he deserved much better. Still, what he's contributed to Troy will stand for ever. I didn't play for him, and have only been around him a few times. But, you can surely tell he's a good and classy man!! Actually met him when he was recruiting my HS for Auburn. I was a mediocre player ... but played with some 5 stars! (I guess they had those ratings then Some of the recruiters would come in and ignore everyone else. But I remember Coach Blakeney talking to me, asking me how I was doing, and even commenting on what kind of season I was having! For a mediocre/undersized player ... who dreamed of playing college ball ... that was huge! He encouraged me ... and called me by name each week! Now, I know that's just good recruiting (win the friends and family of the recruit) ... but I could also tell he wasn't faking it. So, he's a special man. I believe Troy has been blessed with some special/exceptional coaches through the years!! (HCs and assistants). I hope we can start another "era" ... marked by class and success!!

Whoa there now ... have to differ with you on this one! I played on very successful 4A (top division) HS team ... then was also on the 84-87 TSU teams! Those teams were not "one step above" a HS team! I will assume you weren't a player?? There were several players off those teams that went on to NFL, USFL, and CFL. Some Great Players!! (I was not that good ... but we had great players!!) I weekly played against future NFL guys. It was not "one step above HS"!! I in no way want to disrespect LB ... he has been a very good/successful coach for Troy. Very much appreciate all he's done ... and with class!! The plan to move up had been there for years before LB got here. (I know they mentioned it on my recruiting trip in 84). We reached the pinnacle of DII. (limited scholarships, limited resources, etc.) I'm glad we moved up ... I'm glad LB was able to take advantage of us moving up (increased scholarships/resources, etc) and continue our success. He did what great HCs do .. hired great staffs and recruited well and then coached them up! Again, with a lot of class!! But, I feel certain, that if after 84, we'd started the move up ... Coach Gailey and/or Coach Rhoades would have enjoyed similar success. So, in your desire to pay LB proper and deserved respect ... take care that you don't disrespect others who helped lay the foundation that LB has built upon!

Saw that last night ... Brick is a good man and great coach. Players love and Respect him. (I've seen him working with players at Troy, GA Tech, Bears ... he's "players' coach" ... but demanding as well!! Known him all my life. GREAT recruiter (I believe that was JH's #1 on his list)! Been around and worked for/with some great coaches. Loved his time at Troy and loves Troy. Staff is/will be key for anyone ... and of course, he'd have to hire a good offensive staff. I believe Brick Haley would be great choice!!

Campbell, Turk, and Haley would all be great choices! Played with all three ... known them for years. Yes, there may be some "homerism" in wanting someone with Troy connections, but other things being equal ... I think it's advantage to have someone who knows and loves Troy! Also, I know these are quality men/coaches! I know there are good options without Troy connections ... but Just a thought! Facilities are also a big factor ... fundraising will be key! Any word on progress of the Football Facility? Any big money Troy folks that'd would like their name on the facility??
