I heard TROY has narrowed the field to 8. I didn't hear any names but that all 8 candidates are currently coaching. Discuss.

I heard it from my imaginary friend that it is a done deal and the next coach will be introduced during the final game Nov. 29. Also heard that gumbo will be served before the game in the stadium club.

I have feeling that we might have a coach. Certainly a final few. And, yes ... I think it'll be by/before the Dec. 1 date.

As long as he has discipline and can win I don't care if I ever heard of him but a couple of these names are a huge gamble and we can't afford to not get this right

I agree, we can't afford to not get this right. I propose, however, that whomever we hire will be a huge gamble. We've had the same HC for 23 years and none of us, not one, knows what to expect. Any body we hire, be it Orgeron, Wilson, Pruitt or some unknown, visor wearing SEC assistant (I'm not even sure I know what that means) will be new to the job @ TROY. Their level of future success may be somewhat predictable based on history, but it's still an unknown. I think we are facing a risk/reward equation, no matter who we hire. How much risk are we willing to accept to obtain the desired results? The ability to answer that is beyond my pay grade, and beyond the pay grade of most on this board. We all have an opinion, but there's no guarantee it's right.

The number one thing I hear from players parents is the need for discipline. We don't need a players coach that is a push over but a tough one who earns their respect

We have NEVER had to hire a DI Head Coach, SHOOT we NEVER HIRED A DI-AA Head Coach, already had him in place. So for us on this forum to speak with ANY AUTHORITY on this process, or what needs to be done, or whatever is ludicrous. Our "requirements data" comes from ESPN/FOX/CBS college football shows and talk radio, and I PROMISE YOU John Hartwell has been in touch with none of them. So while fun to play the "I know more than you do", or " you have to prove that" game is just that, a bunch of keyboard experts playing the "I know more than you" game. Kinda funny if you ask me. Shows some real "inner ignorance" for grown up folks, at least IMO.

Come earlier next time and we can discuss and share views. I predict that 30% will LOVE the next hire, 30% will hate it 30% will say the knew it, 10% won't care either way. NO MATTER WHO WE HIRE.

I seem to remember a position coach that was hired after the 1982 season that turned out pretty good.
