I used to be 100% against this but schools and coaches make so much money it was a matter of time before the students starting getting some too.

That was the worst performance I've seen by basketball team in the long time. However, against Texas State it was the best performance I've seen by the basketball team in a long time. Clearly we have a lot of good players. They need to come together as a team.

Free throws are supposed to be easy to make. We are losing games because of poor shooting at the free throw line. We need to get that corrected. I think we'll be fine otherwise but that is one glaring weakness

Looks like we have as many coaches on the bench as we do players. Maybe one of those coaches can work on free throws

..............This is MY main gripe with the city of Troy. Troy University is the best thing they have going for them yet there seems to be very limited interest shown. It appears often times like they "tolerate" the universities presence. I get it that some want a total rural life and a university interferes with that but every business owes tons to this university. I'm appalled at the lack of support with merchandise, city signage, employee support if only on game day (dress), things that say "We're proud to be a university city"! What gives C of C or City Fathers?.............
Troy U. does need more support from the town and it'll eventually come as Troy gets better. It's already a lot better than it was a few years ago. One huge difference at Appy St is that the university dominates the town. I think there are 18k+ attending the school and only 6k residents of the town. The town makes its living off the university.

After almost getting beat by Paine college, who out-hustled troy in the 2nd half, Ole Miss will be tough. Ole Miss has a deep bench and they can hustle the whole game. Kudos to the team for focusing the last five minutes and winning.

Everyone that ever went to Troy as a visitor or otherwise has contributed. Doesn't matter how many names you can drop or how many touchdowns, baskets, home runs, etc you made. Some donate, some encourage, some play and some just talk, but they all contribute in some way. You don't have to be egotistical and want everyone to know who you talk to or what you do. Most of the folks that really have a say at Troy rarely do.

Maybe we were promised too much or at least we thought we were. I listened pretty closely what the coaches were saying before the season and after the first couple of games. Brown has the catchy phrase "rebuild the wall", "every player here now has bought in to the program", "we're going to play physical and fast", etc. After the first two games it started to become -- we have a rough schedule, the conference didn't do us any favors on scheduling, I inherited the team, the other team had an extra week to prepare, we got rusty with two weeks off, etc. Saturday he looked like, in Ho's words, Roid Rage; running up and down the sidelines shouting at players, coaches, refs. I'm paraphrasing but you can go read and look at the interviews.
Bottom line -- Last game against GA ST. They came out of the tunnel spirited and enthusiastic, we walked or trotted out. They got into our heads as we had way too many unsportsmanlike penalties, We got a lot of breaks, turnovers, etc., Ga St fought back and took back control of the game. Looked like to me we were outplayed and out coached by a team that wasn't that much better, they just wanted it more.
I think we said rebuild the wall but we got a room divider instead.

Omg... If you think there was only 8,000 there either 1) your stupid or 2) you were not there and only saw what the tv showed you in the 3rd quarter when it was raining. I told my buddy, troyfootball05 on this board even before the numbers officially came out if I had to guess we had between 17-18k there.... I was dead on. Maybe I am stupid for even responding to a post like this. Once again we have the anonymity of a message board where it's considered safe to insult someone. I didn't watch it on TV, I was there. I was walking on the field with my fellow brothers and sisters, of the various services of the military. Now someone like you probably thinks we are all stupid for even serving when we could have spent our youth drinking and making fun of someone (and in your case probably smoking dope) who in your opinion wasn't smart enough to stay out of the military. I had a pretty good view of the stadium from the 50 yard line. It was empty and all the stupid people around were commenting how empty the stadium was and how few were marching this year. I'm sure there were lots of people at the concessions along with people like you, who doesn't feel that you ever have to treat anyone with respect, but I doubt there were 10,000. I don't want to get out of bounds with the moderators so I won't comment any more, must less say what I really feel. So I'll give you the last word to belittle me, call me names, or you can even try to destroy my character. Believe me I've heard it before, after Vietnam I went to college and there were plenty like you around back then as well.

Announced attendance over 18000....I guess the NCAA now allows attendance to counted not as butts in seats but butt cheeks in seat.....double you know.....actuall attendance in my humble opinion 11204 I bet there wasn't 8,000 there. the press box side was empty as well

Unbelievable--the fashion police have already decided what someone can wear to Troy games. Heaven help a fan from another school attend a Troy game unless they have on Troy attire. Now they want to police what a Troy fan wears to another school. Maybe he's been reading this board and heard how some treat fans from other schools and wanted to make sure he wasn't treated like that in Alabama

or recruit only South of Orlando Typical smart a$$ comment. Here's a fact. All of you are in here saying we don't have any talent. Guess where there is a ton of it? And we don't recruit there. So keep complaining about our talent then. We need to recruit AL, all of GA, all of MS and all of Florida, not just the panhandle. That's ok, USA, UAB, App St, GA Southern and others thank us. I think a lot of traditional recruiting has been replaced by HUDDLE (SP?) or Scout.com. Teams like Alabama, Ohio St, etc can select. We have to recruit. I think it's better when coaches had to establish records and relationships with other coaches to find recruits. They trusted each other and helped each other regardless of the part of the country the recruits were in. Draw a circle around Troy, as large as you can support, and establish relationship with the coaches in that circle. Once you've done that then expand. If there is a good fertile ground like South Fl then try to do the same there but it's probably going to be harder since you're in someone else's circle unless they haven't done their job.

Sounds like a chicken-and-egg question. How do they do what you propose? Just through force of will? Exactly! That's what good leaders do. They impose their will by teaching, coaching, leading by example, demonstrating, and a myriad of other things to impose their will to get a group of people to do what the leader knows they have to do. We're not turning a large organization or even a carrier task force around. It's a football team. We were told that everyone on the team "bought in", that the bad apples are gone, that these kids have the character we want. That should make it easier to coach these players. The defense seems to have got the memo. The defense gets caught flat once or twice a game but they adjust and they get better every game. Ok, so we're short a few scholarships; fill them. So we don't have a big experienced offensive line; use a fullback to help with blocking, run some options, slants, pull the guards for power plays, whatever, but stop pounding the middle when it isn't working. We knew the capabilities and limitations of this team after the first two games. Make the adjustments, find the things that work for this team and quit expecting them to do something that doesn't work (like pounding the middle). Build on the things that are successful, even the little things; that builds confidence. I don't see a lot of confidence on the offense. Rebuild the Wall?? Start with a good foundation, That's supposed to happen in August. And please quit blaming Blakeney. It's Brown's team now. He is responsible for the team win or lose. Fans expect their team to win the games that they are supposed to win and be competitive in the games were they are over-matched. We are six games into the season, halfway over, we played better against NC State than we did against USA and Idaho.

There is a lot of talk on the board about facilities to attract recruits and also about how to coach and whether or not we hire the right coaches. I'm beginning to wonder on whether or not Troy athletics if focusing on the right stuff. In my humble and normally accurate opinion the athletics department (primarily football) is focusing on new facilities, flashy helmets, cool uniforms, blackout nights, and other stuff to supposedly attract recruits and fans. Now all that is well and good but unfortunately we aren't winning football games that we should win.
In my consulting business I often find companies that are struggling to make the bottom line. Most of the time I find that the company has gotten away from its core operations and is spending a lot of time managing something that has little to do with the product the company was originally started to produce. Often times I've found managers so devoted to managing the change that they forget to manage the production.
I'm thinking that may be at Troy. Coaches can be caught up in the "we need this or that to recruit, we need palaces for offices, we need instant access to all information, we have to keep up with the Joneses".
We have good facilities. They are good enough to attract almost any recruit in high school. They're not as good as some schools but so what. If a recruit thinks that shiny helmets, carpet on the locker room floor, and the name on the back of his jersey, are primarily important then I'm not sure I'd want him as a player.
Maybe things have changed, but I think human nature is fairly constant. Competent coaches, austere facilities, and grueling practices have produced more good teams and camaraderie among teammates than all the flash and dash combined.
Quit worrying about how pretty things are and put a winning team on the field. That's what attracts recruits, fans, and generous donors. We can pretty things up after we win.

That would be a good sportsmanship gesture. It's on ESPN3 and I don't know if they have the power to dictate start time like ESPN and ESPN2 It's nice yes... But it is homecoming. People I'm sure are counting on a 2pm kick then they'll be disappointed -- kickoff is 2:30 PM LOL

My biggest disappointment was South Alabama. That was a crucial game. Win it and we have some confidence and momentum for conference play. Lose it and we are the same unpredictable team that can't win when the game is on the line. Everyone said it was a crucial game -- the coaches, the players, the administration, the newspapers, and everyone on this board. We even lauded it with a blackout game which was supposed to garner support the enthusiasm from the fan base. Coaches and players said it would define the rest of out season.
Well we lost. The team didn't look like the same team that played NC State and Wisconsin. Both teams played poorly but Troy was worse. So we have a lot to overcome.
I don't like to single out players unless they do something good so I won't criticize any of the players. However, I don't understand why we can't have some plays under center, or at least incorporate a fullback to help clear a path for Burks and Chunn. Watching the games it just seems to me that a fullback blocking a linebacker would gain us a lot more yardage on the ground.

I've gone on 2-3 trips as well. Normally a game on the TV in the bus. Lots of folks bring stuff to eat and drink. Not a party atmosphere but it beats driving. Eat at Golden Corral or similar. Good for one or two people; too expensive the bring the whole family
