I'm not sure I like money games either. They can demoralize the team (I think that happened in the past few years) or they can lift them by playing with the best and competing and sometimes winning (Leodis McKelvin was first notice when we beat Okla St by the scouts who actually came to watch Okla ST).
Trouble is that we need the money. We need to fill the stands every game then we don't need the money games. Winning goes a long way to fill the stands; scheduling is another, fan involvement is another, but the bottom line starts with a "$" and until we fill the stands we'll need the money games

That was a good press conference for the coach

The bad thing is the colleges and universities gave them the power to make all these rules just like we gave so much power to the government. I would not be surprised to see the big conferences break away and start their own governing body to benefit just them.

Seems to me that if students are charged an athletic fee to get into games free than that's the same as selling them a ticket at a reduced price

Found it -- Azalea City Classic 9 Nov 2002. Had young women dressed up in big dresses adorning the sidelines.

Tells me I could be the head coach, my wife and kids could be all the assistants, end I'd only be ranked one slot lower than Neal Brown and his staff.

CUSA has more bowl games -- that's one big reason. They also make it clear that they look for big markets and that's what they said when they invited Old Dominion who was FCS at the time. South Alabama, Texas state, and Georgia State All fit that mold. My Guess is they would invite GA STATE as their first choice, Texas State Second, and South Alabama third choice if your priority is market size.

I'd put all the seniors in. They can't do worse and they certainly aren't enjoying their last year.

I think most of the teams that we've played for several years have figured out our play calling. The method hasn't changed now for about 4 years. I've had several students sit by me and call the plays as they are being relayed to the team by the four guys that look like they are on fire on the sidelines. It is just too easy to figure out if they take the time to do it.

I'm sure the new coach will come with recruits that fit his scheme. Some will de-commit from the school the new coach left and come to Troy to follow the coach who recruited them

Pruitt = can't afford him as he is close to 1m at uga w/out the hc pressure Chizik= no Turk= love him but not sure he is ready. He does have 63% win record. Maybe in a few more years Brick= he wants a shot but, again, not sure about the money. Probably making $400 to 500 k now. I believe his contract expires this season. Yes T franklin= no as HC yes as oc Lash lee= more time and experience needed N brown= can't run a play on the 2 from under center. No Campbell= yes Orgeron= yes And yes Hemi, I will miss LB. class act all these years. I think Pruitt makes $750-800,000. A head coaching job has an appeal that you don't get as a coordinator/assistant. It is not unusual for a very good coordinator to take a pay cut for a head coaching job. There's more to it than just base pay. If you're making $500,000 or better in Troy, you're living pretty good. However, a guy like Pruitt usually considers schools like Troy a stepping stone and they move quickly if they are successful -- look at Arky State and West ktucky

Quote from a local newspaper on the georgia game
The saying goes; “Some days you’re the bulldog, some days you’re the bone.” Troy was the bone last Saturday as the Bulldogs bit them hard in the first quarter and then chewed on them for the rest of the game. The game was never in question. Troy’s offense couldn’t move the ball and their defense couldn’t stop Georgia. However, Georgia’s offense seemingly passed and ran with ease while their defense flew to the ball. Troy (0-4) was overmatched and Georgia (2-1) had something to prove after losing badly to South Carolina the week before. Troy only gained 216 yards the whole game as opposed to Georgia’s 547. 347 yards came on ground with only 39 carries. Georgia’s Heisman candidate, Todd Gurley, only played the first quarter, but he was still impressive gaining 73 yards on just six carries, highlighted by a 48 yard scamper through the Trojan defense. Troy’s Montres Kitchens provided a defensive highlight by running down Gurley from behind and tackling him on the 10-yard line, but Georgia soon scored their first touchdown anyway. The Trojans got close enough to see the goal line twice but couldn’t score. On their opening drive, Troy had a couple of big passes from Dontreal Pruitt to Chandler Worthy (25 yards) and Kendrick Dent (19 yards) to get to the Bulldogs’ 10-yard line but missed the field goal attempt. Midway through the third quarter, Troy was again on the Georgia 10-yard line, but Pruitt’s pass was intercepted in the end zone. Meanwhile, Georgia was scoring on their first seven possessions of the game. Georgia wasn’t trying to run up the score. They began substituting freely in the second quarter, but the score was still 45-0 at the half. I first started following Trojan football in 1999. They were in the process of moving up a division from 1AA to 1A (the highest level in college football). They had already moved up from division II a few years earlier and were doing well. They played tough schedules. One year they played both Miami and Nebraska, who played for the national championship that year. Those Troy teams played hard. They lacked the depth to keep pace with the top teams in the nation, but they didn’t lack heart. They went out on the field and punched the big guys on the nose with a passion that said we’re here, and if you expect to beat us, you better play hard because that’s how we play. Occasionally they won, (Missouri, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State) but they were always in the game until the fourth quarter. I don’t see that attitude anymore, and that has to change if they want to win ball games.
