Have you all seen these? I think they are awesome, apparently it's an Alabama based company and according to their twitter reply, they hope to have Troy helmets next year. Can't wait to have one for my office. hoverhelmets.com/

WONDERFUL! I hope we see MORE merchandise AND VENDORS starting to have Troy items. I have already seen the hover helmet in Birmingham. Also, hardflags.com/ has been advertising on the television in the Birmingham market and they HAVE the Troy flag. NOT the greatest design, but at least we are getting some airtime in the Birmingham market :-) It is AMAZING to see Appalachian State and everything they have available to their fan base. Just walking down main street in Boone there were four or five shops dedicated to their merchandise, not to mention odds and ends in other stores!

Troy University is the best thing they have going for them yet there seems to be very limited interest shown. It appears often times like they "tolerate" the universities presence. I get it that some want a total rural life and a university interferes with that but every business owes tons to this university. I'm appalled at the lack of support with merchandise, city signage, employee support if only on game day (dress), things that say "We're proud to be a university city"! What gives C of C or City Fathers?

Troy U. does need more support from the town and it'll eventually come as Troy gets better. It's already a lot better than it was a few years ago. One huge difference at Appy St is that the university dominates the town. I think there are 18k+ attending the school and only 6k residents of the town. The town makes its living off the university.

Main problem comparing Troy to say Boone, NC is App St has almost 2.5 times more enrollment and Boone is isolated and depends on the university. Troy has 231 and the restraunts and certain businesses can live off the traffic driving through. Also NC has basketball tradition and doesn't have a Auburn or Bama in football. I never see Troy being a true college town because it doesn't have to be to survive

What gives C of C or City Fathers? I was in Hibbett Sporting goods the other day (in Troy) and I asked why they had one little rack of Troy stuff and he told me they CANNOT sell what they get in, that's why they don't keep much Troy gear. I was torn on the issue, I completely understood from the business side, I refuse to have dead inventory as well. It's a tough call for local businesses.
