I have to agree with Atlanta Trojan on this one! I think when he refers to UA he is speaking of the Board of Trustees, not anyone in the athletic department. You need to understand that he is NOT saying they (UT BOT) were worried about UAB in regards to recruits or even the money. IF you go back and study the History of the UAB Athletics Program you will find a hatred (almost an obsession) by ONE member of the BOT towards UAB and ANY athletics at that campus. THAT individual is about to go off the BOT and I do not think anyone would be surprised (if it was uncovered) that this was his last request OR his way of collecting on some old agreements with mother board members. [ Are you referring to JR.? I have a dear friend that is a long time donor at UA and he spares no feelings about shutting them down. Alabama alumni doesn't want UA funds going to support other schools athletic programs. It's sad UAB can't cut that umbilical cord but then it's not about athletics..,,unless you are a UA supporter. Oh, I completely see the business side. I wonder if UA will shut fown their track program, tennis programs, all ladies sports and any other UA athletic programs that drain from that same UA checking account? If they are going to shut down football at UAB then I could understand it more if they told UAB that they are part of UA family therefore there will be no sports programs financed outside Tuscaloosa. You support us.

It isn't that UAB was in any way a threat to UA. It is simply that those in power at UA are petty, arrogant, turds who want to be the only game in town. They would shut down Auburn, Troy, USA, UNA, and Jax St. if they could! I don't think they're petty enough to shut down UAB and lose 50 mil just to be a bully. And like I said, might be ruthless but I'd probably shut down all the other schools if I had the power to and it bettered the one I'm a fan of. Really??? Wouldn't be many left to play I would assume IF YOU HAD THE POWER! It's a game, not the end of the world. Alabama has lost sight of that as has the NCAA. What they are doing with football and the power conferences will cause a lot if this as time passes. It's all about MONEY! That's not a bad thing......unless you become one of the victims.

South isn't going anywhere. We all know UA has everything to do with UAB I honestly don't see how you can blame UAT for UAB. They're businessmen. If UAB actually made money and had fan support, they would be playing football. Only the least informed people could ever think UAsB Team was grabbing recruits or anything else from UA. If every university was forced to shut down every program that lost money then a lot of us would have to find new things to do on weekends. On the surface, keeping them is bad business practices as well. I guess those "LEAST INFORMED PEOPLE" are also oblivious as to the reasons UA refuses to play any instate football program and keep that money and those jobs in Alabama. Why didn't UA agree to play UAB each year home and home to help with the financial shortfall they claim exist if they were really interested in helping at all? I believe it was Sabin that said about in state OOC games, "I won't play any team I recruit against"! Alabama possesses an arrogance that's exceptional but then my opinion might change if some of the MOST INFORMED PEOPLE might share from their wealth of knowledge. We're listening!:-):-):-) JMHO!

Based on Conf USA prior decisions, they will take Ga State because of the ATL market. Yes. They make some excellent decisions. See FAU and FIU. If ever there's been an example where it proven that conference alignments are aall bout money rather quality, it's C-USA! I live for the day dimeones has the guts to tell them no, we are staying in the Sun Belt.

Remember, this board is representing the same university that REFUSES to play any in state college or university in football. They want NO competition. I grew up an Alabama fan because of my dad but their attitude toward other institutions is awful. Sabin has only made it worse. They would do the same to every other football program if they had the power the wield over UAB. Regrets! We had a great rivalry. I don't really care about Alabama but why don't you people understand: "if you have the power wield it." Alabama is simply trying to destroy all the obstacles in its way. It sucks but I understand it. It's life. Who's life, yours? My life has not seen a lot of that thank God so I don't "understand it"! So you say you understand destroying anything you have the power to destroy if it increases your life's goals. Wow, some philosophy to live by. I can understand business decisions and I'm not close enough to this situation, and neither is anyone here, to REALLY understand the validity of that report. I just see the attitude UA expounds and its vial. Frankly I don't understand the acceptance of "wielding power if you have it" but then I detest countries that do that sort of thing like Russia. Neither do I contend that I understand it in the broadest sense. In the short run yes, it's called bullying!

So, UAB is going to save all kinds of money by killing football, then pay it all out to schools whose contracts were violated an coaches with contracts but no teams? And when undergraduate applications drop like a stone and the school loses even more money, what's next? So stupid! So wrong! As you probably already know, UAB is not even saving any money by killing football. We actually lose money immediately and will still be subsidizing the same amount. The joke of a commissioned study is online and it is only 6 pages and a few paragraphs. Actual athletic studies are normally in the 60-200 page range. I could have written this report in a single night by googling UAB finances, but this "report" supposedly took almost a year to write. The numbers are a joke and don't say anything. It was all just some thinly veiled sham meant to kill our football program. Reporters asked our fall-guy President a bunch of hard questions today and he couldn't answer any of them. I can't imagine him staying at UAB as he will probably end up getting a vote of no confidence from faculty (student government already voted no-confidence today), but I could be wrong. This sounds stupid, but this is probably one of the worst days of my life. It almost feels like I lost a close relative. It is really heartbreaking knowing that I will never get to see a UAB game or see the marching band again as I marched in the band for 4 years. It wouldn't hurt so badly if this was done for a good reason, but this was solely done out of spite and it makes me sick to my stomach. It's ridiculous how such important things in our state are run by a couple of people who have no real regard for the citizens. Remember, this board is representing the same university that REFUSES to play any in state college or university in football. They want NO competition. I grew up an Alabama fan because of my dad but their attitude toward other institutions is awful. Sabin has only made it worse. I was under the impression that once the hammer came down, they'd have two years to finish out their scheduling contracts and then no more UAB Football. I figured their contractual obligations would stop UAB from dropping football cold turkey. No? Yea, I wondered if these game contracts have any payout clauses.

I would love to see us make the South Alabama game the last game of the year...maybe even agree for it to be the Friday after Thanksgiving to not directly compete with the Iron Bowl. Then replace the standing UAB game with an annual home/home game with Southern Miss. Both of these schools are natural rivals for us and are located in a recruiting hotbed that we desperately need to dominate. Nothing wrong with either of those proposals. So Alabama will become our new Jax St if I don't miss my guess!

You know what would be a great addition on this site? A thread designed for terminology explanation. I coached for years and I even have difficulty keeping up with the new offensive/defensive terminology. On offense it's the sets, position names, styles, etc., etc.. On defense the same. Whether it's for old coaches like me, fans who never played a snap in a game or coached a second or the ladies and kids. It would help us all to have a place to go to get the CORRECT definition of a term or name. Something that could be added to or corrected as things change! Might even get a coach or two involved.JMHO Me and Doc71 still know what Al/Atlanta, Bob/Boston, (The HC we don’t speak of)/Cleveland, Dan/Denver, Fuqua, 3i, 4 shade, 5 and Selma 31 mean...I think lol . We did have a lot of blows to the head in that wishbone offense Yea and in my days at Troy it was rule blocking ( on, over, linebacker your side, etc., etc.). Defense, it was far simpler schemes because offenses were basic as well. Run most, pass some HOWEVER, Bubba Marriott did change that at Troy. He could sling it. Went to the Giants! In those days a player played offense AND defense. No raising your hand and running off the field when you got tired running a route or covering someone. Would love to have a place to go to understand today's lingo.

You can run 100% of the time out of the spread. it is just a formation- not a style of play. Correct. I was refering to the air raid and read option run plays. Most of the run plays in the Franklin system is a read option. You also throw the ball first and continue unless stopped. You run about 10 - 20 % of the time in a perfect Franklin air raid world. You know what would be a great addition on this site? A thread designed for terminology explanation. I think we have a chance, if Neal is successful, to keep him for several years. Curious, what is the rationale behind your belief of this ? Just a gut feeling but he is a new head coach not a recycled one. I think it will take several years of success here before a bigger program will pursue him but that's just my opinion based on what I've seen through the years. Those you named at ASU had mostly already proved themselves through years of experience as assistant or head coaches. They were just there waiting for their next call. Don't think that is true with Neal but I might be wrong!

I bet Toledo fans were glad that their folks didn't adhere to that idea of having to have been a head coach when they signed a 39 year old coordinator who was never HC by the name of Sabin. I have my Rotary meeting every Monday with a group of UF alums and they wish they had never hired coordinators named Zook, Weiss , And Muschamp so it doesn't always work, but I have a good feeling on Neal. He impressed me at the press conference. I think we hired a good one. If I'm not mistaken, Ron Zook had been an Assistant Head Coach at West Virginia before coming to Florida and Charlie Weis was head coach at Notre Dame prior to Florida so how did that have to have been a HC idea work out there? I agree, I like Brown. I'm learning to block out memories of LSU, he was young!!!:-)

Looks like your guy was not picked. I have heard that has been an issue before. So, who was your guy? I am good with whomever Hartwell picked. It was Brown, it is good. In our seriousness, it's good to be excited about the future. I am certainly am, the last four years have been long. But we need to understand there is a possibility we have to rebuild. Oh, I think it's a reality we have to rebuild but like a home, rebuilding can be small fixes needed or large ones. It can take weeks or years, depending. Brown is the remodeler, he will be the one who decides the degree of repairs that are needed thus the length of time needed will be dictated. I remember when we built our house, I got so impatient but our builder said I measure 3 times and cut once (do it right), be patient, things will be fine when I'm finished so I yield to Neal, start remodeling!:-)

To be honest I'm not thrilled. I think this was the vanilla choice. I think Troy should've hired someone with head coaching experience because a good coordinator doesn't necessarily make a good coach (see Tony Franklin). I guess we have no other choice at this point but unless Brown hires some crack coordinators I'm not expecting much, especially for the first year. See: Every coach that's gone through Arkansas State in the last four years. Freeze, Malzhan, Harsin, Anderson. All have been exceptional. I think we have a chance, if Neal is successful, to keep him for several years. How long did Arky State keep those guys? One and gone in most cases. Schools our size seldom keep big name guys but a year or so. Just a place to get a check until....! If they do stay, usually it's because all they have left is their names! JMHO

I suggested in the QB Competition thread not knowing this until now, that this was a HUGE possibility. Was redshirted already, either way lateral transfer I believe requires a year to sit, unless you go down or have graduated. This could get interesting. My understanding is you sit out one year but do not lose any eligibility. Has that changed? I've seen seniors change, sit out them play so can't they still do that. The kid a few years ago at Oragon to Ole Miss is my example.

Neal Brown has arrived. New energy, new discipline. 9-3 or 10-2 Lose only one Sunbelt Game. Win Sunbelt championship. Go to New Orleans. Win it. Finish 25 in final poll. See, dreamin' ain't so bad!:-):-):-)

Since you read the board and all. In your next presser you might need to tone down the expectations from some of the fringe element on here. They have us winning the National Championship next year with blow out road wins against Wisconsin, Mississippi State and NC State. Some already are willing to walk your dog, cut your grass, do your laundry or whatever the maid doesn't clean, if needed. ( we know some were already sniffing the rear ends of the previous staff but I am sure you want new blood) Like you I love the passion and excitement but they will turn on you quickly. Get them too high and they will expect nothing less. I know you have some rebuilding to do. Just play with intensity, discipline and heart and everything will be ok. Also they are expecting our QB to win the Heisman. You have to make a choice every day....be positive or be negative! After things occurred you can be realistic but what's wrong with dreaming. I do agree, some do jump ship quickly when the ship springs some leaks!:-) :-) :-)

I will just throw this quote out from a player that played the 2010 season. He said if Silvers had the talent around him that Corey had in 10 everyone would be claiming him to be on course to be the greatest Troy quarterback ever. Quarterbacks are only as good or bad as the talent surrounding them. That has merit but you can have talent and that does not guarantee skills at the QB position just that the skills he has had a better opportunity to be exposed. I'm hoping for great things from Silvers under Brown but he had to recruit those surroundings.

Silvers will do well in Brown's offense. I'm dying to see his arm and accuracy under Brown. I'm left wondering why he was so restricted as yo deep throws. Was it his lack of skills or coaches lack of confidence or simply a scheme issue. Before it starts, he did have time to throw deep at times but not as often as you would want. It was not all OL problems.
