Sorry...so bama, gsu, and txst are more to coosa's liking, because of their media markets. I wouldn't begin to fall for that. There's still just as much potential in the SBC as there is in cusa.

IMO, South Alabama will be the evidential target for CUSA. Mobile has a decent media market, a growing city, growing industry, the Senior Bowl, hosts a bowl game, Mardi Gras, etc. and it is fertile recruiting ground. It has a lot to offer. If USA gets the money to build the already planned on campus stadium I think they are a shoe in. Plus they would have natural rivals very close.
Troy has some limitations holding it back. But I don't mind the Sunbelt, it is solid. But being in CUSA would be interesting also.

Ya, CUSA isn't going to happen for us...
I believe South Bama and Georgia State are as good as gone in the next 5 years.
To be honest, I don't get people's infatuation with CUSA anyway.

8 years ago, ConUSA was awesome. Nowadays, not so much. I would love home/home with Southern Miss, but no one else in that conference really excites The Dream. LJH can wheel and deal a Southern Miss contract w/o needing to be in their league.

CUSA has more bowl games -- that's one big reason. They also make it clear that they look for big markets and that's what they said when they invited Old Dominion who was FCS at the time. South Alabama, Texas state, and Georgia State All fit that mold. My Guess is they would invite GA STATE as their first choice, Texas State Second, and South Alabama third choice if your priority is market size.

USA gives them the Pensacola/Mobile market and ULL gives them another New Orleans market and gets a baseball/softball program capable of going to the CWS. Tex St seems obvious but they have UNT for Dallas and UTSA for San Antonio and Rice for Houston. Don't know if they need another Texas school??

Wouldn't think they'd just stay at 12 to split 12 ways instead of 13? There's no real reason to add another football member anyway...

Most interpet CUSA as the better conference. That is why we lost half the SunBelt to them. I don't think anyone could say they don't wish we were the "one" moving. But I really think we have a better outlook in the SB. Until we (the SunBelt) start winning and gaining respect out of conference, it really isn't going to matter. We were gaining respect before we lost many of the league. The teams in the league are known as 1-AA and they wore us out this year. We have a long way the restore that reputation. That's the only reason I would like to move. Otherwise it will take some time before we get back to the old days.

Well, look at the last few years, they've lost about as many as the Belt. It's all about the money. Thy are not that "stable"! Everyone is open to a move "up"! As they perceive it.

There will continue to be growing pains in this conference, but just a few short years ago, there was one bowl game...ONE. cusa had what they had...5..6...Even with all that change, the Sun Belt had added to their bowl line-up.
cusa didn't do a whole lot for a 6-6 muts team...they're sitting at home, just like us. Never let it be said that we deserve to be in the belt, but cusa shouldn't be looked at as a destination either. TROY started raising the profile of the Sun Belt...finish what we started.

Never let it be said that we deserve to be in the belt, but cusa shouldn't be looked at as a destination either. TROY started raising the profile of the Sun Belt...finish what we started. This is somewhat my thought, too. I don't think CUSA is heads-and-heals over the SB. I think the SB perception diminished some when we lost those teams to CUSA and then we brought in the FCS teams. But winning that perception back will take some time. I would rather be on top of the SB than a middle of the pack CUSA team. Eventually we will be back to our winning tradition and gain back the respect to the SB.

We were not as good as CUSA this past year, but GS and a late run by Appalachian State means we made two great additions. They were the best teams in the belt at year's end. This league will improve with Troy getting back to business and what should be a resurgent South Alabama (as much as I hate to say it). South is getting a great offensive coordinator and has brought in six UAB players to fill in some holes, including their QB.

I think our winning ways are coming back, Will certainly help the position of the Sunbelt. Question? Are there any other viable conference options out there for a program like ours "TROY"?

To most of the country, App State and Ga Southern are FCS teams. Just like were were for the first few years (and still most dont think Troy Division = Big Five Conference Divisions). We lost some credibility when our conference broke to pieces. It will take some time but we will be ok. CUSA sustained the image after break of teams. Their branding took a hit but for the most part most of the country still looks at it as a FBS conference. Most look at the SB as a FCS. We have to win the OOC games to restore our identity.

CUSA gained a lot of available aluminum on game days when they expanded. As far as TV markets go, it really hasn't been that impressive. Being in CUSA couldn't save UAB football either despite an improved season. Of course, everyone knew Blazer football was doomed years ago simply by the composition of their BOT. If anything, I think there might be some hesitancy in the future of adding any program that doesn't have its own independent BOT.
