But what will really screw with your teams head is the noise. I know what you are thinking. Our stadium only holds 37,000 people. Right? We played at Clemson last year and the noise didn't affect us. I am more worried that blue turf will be more distracting!

If we want to get some (national) attention, only chance is through the athletic dep. Even if Troy decided to invest some additional funds into academics, most people wouldn't even notice. But people notice Top 25 rankings, NFL players, NBA players, Bowl wins, etc - Ever heard of the Flutie effect? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flutie_effect

What Troy 30 for 30 story would be actually interesting to an national audience?
I can only think of the Osi / DWare story. Both underrated HS recruits attending Auburn HS, playing for Troy, high NFL Draft picks, and both winning the Super Bowl...
Somebody should pitch this idea to ESPN!

So we get them to sign a 1-for-1 with us while USM just gets a 1-for-2 + 1.3M - they could have signed a home and home with MissSt and another money game with LSU, Alabama, etc for 1.8M or 1.9M. Btw USM also signed a home-and-home with Liberty. Btw, this MSU fan thinks our "home game" might be played in Mobile. I don't think it's true though. mississippistate.247sports.com/Board/59413/Contents/Troy--106432142

What about playing bigger games (and programs who would not come to Troy otherwise) at neutral sites such as Mobile? I have been wondering this for a while - LA Tech hosted TX A&M in 2012 in Shreveport, LA. - both teams were ranked at that time. It was a very close, exciting game (TX A&M 59, LA Tech 57): www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=322872348 Troy could "host" bigger programs such as Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas, etc - this would help recruiting, grow the fanbase, and generate some exposure. We could schedule 2-for-1s or maybe even 1-for-1 games and pocket the money generated from our "home game". I think we can do better in terms of scheduling, hosting teams like Boise St and Southern Miss (and Miss St, is the NC State game still on?) is pretty cool but the next step would be showcasing our program against bigger opponents in key recruiting areas and ideally on national tv - it is almost like playing two bowl games in the same year. www.ksla.com/story/16774434/louisiana-tech-finalizes-2012-schedule-with-texas-am-in-shreveport

In other words,we are in their coaches head ...... I agree. Kudos to the coach who almost stole an All American from USM on signing day.

I would be ok with App St winning the conference, as long as Troy is the runner up, beats Boise State, and manages to crack the Top 25 again for a few consecutive weeks...

Looks like they have moved the game... the game is now sandwiched between USM's Miss St and Alabama games. USM has a tough schedule in September: road games at Miss St, at Troy, at Alabama: sports.usatoday.com/2017/08/08/southern-miss-announces-football-series-with-mississippi-state/"Southern Miss was originally set for a road date with Troy on Sept. 7, 2019. That away game will instead be played on Sept. 14, 2019." "With the announcement of the Mississippi State series, the non-conference portion of Southern Miss’ 2019 schedule is complete. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to host Alcorn State on Aug. 31, before traveling to Mississippi State on Sept. 7, Troy on Sept. 14 and Alabama on Sept. 21."

I disagree, I think we should still consider 2-for-1 deals when offered by elite programs such as UGA, LSU, Florida St, etc (won't happen) - however not so sure about mid-tier P5 programs (probably not). However, hosting teams like Ok St, GA Tech, etc (and other Top 25 teams) should be scheduling priority, even if we have to offer 2-for-1s, IMHO. 247sports.com/Bolt/Troy-coach-says-he-would-love-to-play-Alabama-andor-Auburn-52886025

...ranks Troy as follows: Overall: #49 (LSU: 13, App St: 33, Boise St: 45) SBC: 3rd (behind App St and ArksSt) Power poll: #82 (LSU: 13, Boise St: 56, App St: 62) Toughest schedule: #123 Bowl: Camelia Bowl vs Northern Illinois Unit rankings: QB: #45 RB: not ranked WR: #47 DB: #35 How are we 3rd behind ARKST in the SBC if we are ahead of them in his overall, and power poll?? Also, did you download the app or did you take a peak at the magazine in stores. Just curious if it's out in stores yet. Also why does writing out dow(n)load render a picture of our AD?? hah I downloaded the app. It works fine. Not sure if it's out in stores yet. I live in Germany, Phil Steele Magazine usually hits stores in July here...probably earlier in the U.S. Power poll vs Overall ranking: I didn't pay attention to ArkSt, I will add them later. He has AppSt and ArkSt tied at #1. He really likes both teams, praises AppSt and ArkS coaching and App State's superior talent + ArkSt DL and LB units both rank at #1 (SBC),IIRC. download hahah, really??

If we played only teams that didnt have at least one scumbag on staff or on the team, there would be no one for us to play. Let it go Francis, it will be ok. That's only part of my problem. For us to have to go to a first year FBS Independent team to me is embarrassing. We should have listed some things we wanted out of it, and not just kept our mouth shut and take it. Totally agree!

Hey guys, Boise State fan. If you have any questions about the Boise area let me know. Our campus and Stadium are downtown, and there are a ton of hotels either downtown or close by the airport. The airport is a short drive from the Stadium, just a few miles. What about your team next season? I read somewhere you guys are rebuilding. I checked the Boise St forum, looks like some fans aren't so happy with your QB even though he seems quite talented with some experience. Why is that? What are Boise's team strengths and weaknesses this year? Thx

Boise St - they have to replace many starters but their QB is pretty good and they are almost unbeatable at home, still 50/50 because Troy is so much more experienced this year (50/50 chance)
LSU - just started researching them, however looks like they simply reload again as always, probably too much to handle unless we play a perfect game and LSU doesn't bring their A game (65/35 LSU)
Nevertheless, our goal should be a 12-1 record and I expect multiple Top25 appearances this season. Our schedule is favorable. I hope we can produce more yds and TDs this year, Silvers and Chunn should garner some attention. If Chunn gets drafted, this will generate even more attention and help recruiting. Our next big goal should be signing a talented 4-star recruit out of HS.
However, biggest challenge will be to keep our coaches around for the 2018 season... because beating Boise St at home while opening our brand new endzone building will be priceless. After that, I hope we will look into building an IPF soon (especially with the two-a-days ban now)
IMHO the next three years are crucial for Troy - we can re-install a winning tradition at Troy, boost our recruiting success, and invest in our coaching staff and facilities - we are doing most of it already, we just need to build on this...

Boise St Defense seems extremely young, so is Troy's Front7. Both teams have to replace tons of LBs. I think this game could be a shootout as both teams have experienced QBs facing young Ds (Troy's Secondary should be quite good though). Boise St Offensive issues are similar to ours: They have to replace 3 OLs (they return their starting C, star QB, top WR), however they have to replace their starting RB - while we have one of the deepest RB units in the country. I like our chances, but playing Boise St at home will be tough. Overall 50/50, slight edge Troy. Boise St depth chart: www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/boise-state/90130Boise St: Three players to know 1. WR Cedrick Wilson. The former JUCO transfer had 113 yards receiving and a score in his debut last September and never looked back, finishing with 56 catches for 1,129 yards and a team-best 11 touchdowns. 2. DL David Moa. Every offense on Boise State’s schedule will key on Moa, who led the team in sacks and finished second in tackles for loss as a sophomore in 2016. 3. C Mason Hampton. The line will build around Hampton, an honorable mention all-league pick last fall, and senior left tackle Archie Lewis. www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2017/03/27/boise-state-broncos-early-look-college-football-2017/99691938/

Apparently, he wanted to sign with Troy. His mom signed with USM. His girlfriend is going to Troy.
Kid is very talented, reminds me of Jernigan. Maybe there is still a chance somehow...
