my fear. Is McClain in sole charge of hire ? Since he is AD, probably yes. Assuming Dr Hawkins would be hands off. We have to pay at least $1 million per year to keep up with the Sun Belt. Be nice if at all possible to have a guy who will stay more than 3-4 years unfortunately the only way we keep a coach for more than 3-4 years is if we "slide" into mediocrity! We most certainly will be able to retain a coach that goes 6-6, 7-5, 8-4 every year. Remember, we had that in our last coach. Won a bunch of conference games, but did very little outside of the Sunbelt. Yes, we beat a couple of BAD Miss St. teams and years apart! You still want a coach for an extended period of time? I would rather change out every 3/4 years because our program has continued to get better and better and our coaches continue to get bigger and better opportunities. We will NEVER be able to pay 3 to 3.5 million a year for our football coach. But we may be able to pay 1 million and continue our winning ways and be a stepping stone to the next level for our coaches, and you know what, I, for one, am good with that. Next coach, win 10 or 11 games a year for 3 or 4 years at Troy (see our upcoming schedules) and he, too, will get an opportunity. Then we start this cycle all over again. These are exciting times to be a Troy Trojan right now, EMBRACE IT! We (Troy) has gotten more 'free' publicity than we would have ever been able to pay for because of this team and this coaching staff and administration. I say we focus on repeating our success, over and over and over again!! Bright days ahead Trojans - we are going to be just fine!

I think, as a minimum, Neal will take Vic, Matt Moore and Rafael Horton, the football strength and conditioning coach. Unless Matt gets the HC position, he will go with Neal. Been with him for a long time and just makes sense. I don't expect that VK will get the HC position (but I have been wrong before).
NO ONE (except Jeremy) has any idea, at this point, who our next HC will be. We can only put our faith and trust into our AD and hope for the best. This is Jeremy's first coaching hire (well, I guess he technically hired the new volleyball coach), at least in the 'revenue generating' sports area. He has been well aware for SEVERAL WEEKS that Neal was actively looking for a P5 position and was looking to move. He has worked on shoring up his short list and I feel confident that many "unofficial" interviews/conversations have been ongoing since early December. I am also confident that He (Jeremy) knows the type of coach (person) that will be a good fit for Troy; that he is speaking with Coach Brown for his recommendations (and I trust that Neal will be upfront with this) - not some good ole boy plot to get "one of his guys" promoted just to promote them. I think Neal really, REALLY cares about what happens after he leaves, it is still his mark on this program until the new staff can establish their identity.
Jeremy knows that this hire MUST continue to energize the fan base, understand the expectations of this program now and live up to those. This football program is in the BEST SHAPE IT HAS EVER BEEN IN at the Division I level, BY FAR. So, the pressure is on Jeremy to make the right hire and bring in the right mix. The talent is there, the team/fans are hungry and willing to do what it takes to continue this latest era of winning. We just have to get the right mix in place.
Trust the process - we are going to be fine!
HAVOC!

Our next coach, whether that is next week, next month, or next year, MUST HAVE recent D-1 coaching experience. Not necessarily has a head coach, but someone that has been in and around the game RECENTLY, like THIS PAST YEAR. Most FBS coaches that are successful have a boat load of transfers, meaning that they cant recruit the kids they need to win out of high school. WHOEVER is our next coach MUST have an understanding of this. Case in point, when LB was our HC, we were lucky to get 5 or 6 3*** with Neal we are recruiting a much more talented athlete AND STUDENT. Those were MUST HAVEs for Neal and company to come see you and offer scholarships. Those are the intangibles that we all talk about so much.

Who will be next: Rush Propst'?? For the love of all that is good and holy please stop with the Rush Probst stuff. We (nor any other DI program) will EVER hire a guy straight from high school to be the head coach. but he would be on FINE offensive coordinator!!!!! Guy can coach and kids play for him. He has one of the TOP HIGH SCHOOL programs in the country. His past is there, yes, but it was a LONG TIME AGO.

Based on what the coaches stated in the noon review and looking at who we have already signed, I would HOPE for either Perry (announcing at 6 pm) or Steward. Did Perry announce where he is going to play? I have looked and researched but found nothing. Also, what about Tacorey Turner, Adarius Toliver and Jaden Kent? On 247 they are listed as "committed" but no LOI signed. I am wondering if they haven't qualified or still need ACT/SAT scores that meet the requirement, but didn't think that would stop kids from signing the LOI. If, by the time school starts (acceptance deadline for admissions) they qualify, they would then come to school. Somebody/anybody got info on these kids?

Raw oysters on a hot day... as long as they were kept on ice, I could get behind this idea. I don't remember what frat did it, but one year they did all you could eat oysters for a fund raiser, after 10 dozen they asked me to leave. It was "all you can eat" Possum, NOT "eat all you can"!!!

Hey folks, BSU fan here. Good luck this weekend against Nebraska. At worst, I think you should be able to keep this one in doubt until the end. If Martinez doesn't play I would consider you guys the favorite in this game. Right back at you! I hope you beat the brakes off of OSU!! Will be watching and rooting hard for your boys this weekend. From some sports bar in Lincoln I hope!

Yessir, U R right! Just wanna win in Lincoln this week. See ya there! Winning vs Nebraska would be a better and bigger win for Troy then any Sunbelt tie in bowl game just like the win vs LSU was last year. You are absolutely wrong about this. Winning at LSU didn't WIN the team anything but victory. The Sun Belt wins and Bowl Win is what WON them their rings. Not the 15 minutes of fame we got for beating LSU. Which was promptly extinguished with a loss at home against South 11 days later.... So while winning at Nebraska would be big for the program, another 15 minutes of fame (maybe 20 this time) it 'wins' the team nothing, but for victory and confidence. 8 of the next 9 are what are most important. Most important to the team, the coaches, the staff, everyone except those out here on the sidelines wanting to feel more euphoric about a win in Lincoln than they would winning the Sun Belt Conference and representing the conference as its Champion.

YOU make no sense. I never express a belief of mine, anything about Troy concessions being inept and weak, nor did I say the words or imply MOOCH!! Good god man, try the atmosphere outside the stadium instead of complaining about everything inside, THAT was the message. Use your own tailgate and enjoy... I don't ever talk about MY CONNECTIONS and/or PASSION for Troy. Those that know me, KNOW ME. Those of you who don't ought not to speak of things they (you) know NOTHING ABOUT! What is the EPIC FAIL OF TROY, anyway? HELL, I think the Ribeye at Santa Fe is the "official ribeye of Troy Athletics" but I don't expect them to sell ribeyes in the stadium!! 1st, calm down. No need to caps lock screaming every other sentence. Please read what I wrote: the epic fail that is Troy concessions. It is by far one of the worst in all the stadiums I have been to. You did say mooch: walk around and eat. Try to help out instead of promoting laziness and mooching I apologize, you obviously have never been to a game at Troy and participated in any pregame tailgate activities, therefore you misconstrued my "walking around, meeting, enjoying the festivities, etc" as mooching! I was trying to help you get your game day sustenance prior to going inside and being disappointed, again my apologies. Where I was raised, being neighborly and all, we never called that 'mooching', in fact I just re-read, again, my comments, and I swear I don't see the word 'mooch' anywhere, but then, as you have proven, I could be wrong. I promise you can come to my tailgate for any game and we will feed you, drink you, and fellowship with you and we will never, ever accuse you of mooching. I wont promise that we will have Conecuh Sausage, but we have will be worth eating. It has already been clarified by jonesoxygen how the 'official sponsorships' contracts work. Enjoy your day, hope you come by our tailgate and enjoy some fellowship.

I think those that complain about not having the food and drinks you like in the concession stands at the stadium ought to tryout TAILGATING before the game. Get all those 'taste bud' items out of the way at the tailgate and you dont not have to worry about what food you can and cannot get inside the stadium. Just think, at a tailgate (you know, right behind where you park) you could have anything and everything you have always wanted to eat at the Vet, just bring it with you. Heck, I bet most folks would love to have you just join right in with their group and tailgate with them, no questions asked. I know that you (all of you) are more than welcome at our tailgate. Now, of course if THEY DONT HAVE what you want and Troy doesn't provide inside the stadium, you will still be in a quandary. You may have to mingle and meet some other folks that have what you want. You know, walk around, enjoy the day, meet some folks, see folks you already know, EAT the foods you desperately crave and MUST HAVE to enjoy a football game. Get all that out of the way before you go into the game, then you can concentrate on the game, the players, the emotion of it all. Just a thought! This makes no sense. So you believe that because the Troy concessions are so inept and weak (especially on food they advertise for in the stadium for one of their highest profile Advertisers) is to walk around a mooch to everyone’s tailgate until you find what you want and fill up. Why not actually helping assist in holding the epic fail that is Troy concessions to account ? You say you are connected and have passion for Troy ? Wouldn’t bringing increased revenue from concessions be good for Troy ? And increase the fan experience? Don’t understand why people who consistently say they are mega fans try so hard to mask the utter failings. If not address the problems will just continue. I went to the first Camellia Bowl with free tickets and it was a great time other being freezing cold and not having a dog in the fight. They had a pre game concert and tailgate tents set up on Patterson Field. They supposedly do a nice job on that Friday with the pep a rally's and the Christmas Parade. SHHHHHHHHH - some folks on the board don't want to read stuff like this!

Well it might be "boring" for you and those like you. Wasn't boring for me and those like me. I got to see 80+ guys play, with meaningful reps with the 1s, 2s and 3s. These guys come to play and ALL got a chance to play. If you didn't like this game YOU WOULD HAVE HATED the originally scheduled game for this slot, Presbyterian. When they opted to go back to D-II we had to schedule (QUICKLY) and got a GREAT GAME, from a business point of view! They brought a GREAT CROWD and had their band not DEMANDED a "performance fee" to attend (they need money real bad in Tally), it would likely have been a sell out! WHAT is BORING and something that I find HORRENDOUS is it sounds as if you would like us to go back to playing "BIG BOYS" for our non-conference schedule. Which is a HORRIBLE decision, because that takes us back to 5 home games and 7 on the road. Tailgating on Saturday, at the Alumni House, with no game being played at the VET - BORING! While I do agree that we HAVE GOT TO FIX our deep pass coverage. Short and medium stuff - we cover pretty well. We put LOTS of pressure on the QB, that is going to help the backend. I think they are just young and are not going through all their progressions (YES, DBs have progressions - it is called 'reading the play'). Vic gets this fixed, two weeks of tape should help him greatly, and we should be poised to do good things in the conference. Remember, our schedule doesn't even start until Sept 22nd in Monroe, LA. These first three games are warm-ups to what we are really striving to do! HAVOC! Aww shucks... all that really matters is the conference championship and a bowl game we can drive to. WOW - didn't even mention a bowl game or driving and YES, CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE WHAT WE ARE STRIVING FOR!! So, "AWW shucks" yourself!

The Cactus Bowl would be a nice trip if I could afford it. Montgomery in December isn't a bowl game in my book. I HEAR YA! That would be a nice trip, but then so would the Cotton Bowl. Problem, we don't have a tie-in with the Cotton Bowl. IF we have the opportunity to play a game AFTER Dec 2, then we have to go. BTW - the Camellia Bowl is probably the BEST BOWL GAME for Troy to play in - from a fiscal point of view. It quite possible could be the ONLY bowl game where Troy would actually MAKE MONEY on the experience. One thing is for sure, we wouldn't lose any money going to Montgomery, still get 12-15 more practices, reward the players for another successful year, give them a chance to play for a bowl championship, and fans an opportunity to watch their favorite college football team take the field one more time. I apologize if Troy isn't your favorite college football team and if that is the case, I can see where you are coming from with the "Montgomery in December isn't a bowl game in your book!"

No its not. Playing an FCS opponent is boring. That's why attendance at every FBS school is down when they play them. Its really bad when you play a team like FAMU that obviously watched film and were exposing our weaknesses. If that was a SunBelt team that prepared as well as FAMU, we would have lost. So did we lose on the scoreboard??? No. FAMU did their job and every one of or next opponents a favor by revealing our lack of pass defense. So yeah they beat us. Well it might be "boring" for you and those like you. Wasn't boring for me and those like me. I got to see 80+ guys play, with meaningful reps with the 1s, 2s and 3s. Didn't Troy drop State from its name because it's not funded that much by the state? I could be misremembering that...
My understanding was with the global campuses and military base campuses they felt "State" didn't reflect the University system. They are still funded by the state as is every other public university The change was made because the Board of Regents felt that "State" was to restrictive, to 'regional' and thought was that there would be much more opportunity for Federal Grants and Research monies if that connotation was removed. It was also at this time that the state decided to drastically cut funding. By re-branding it was felt that this was a better direction for more federal dollars, since we would be losing state dollars. That is the conversation that I had with Dr. J and others at that time. Now, as far as getting a hotel on campus, to be run by our alumni affairs staff - just go ahead and put down the pipe, you don't need anymore of whatever it is you are smoking!! JMHO See how I got us right back on topic - NEED SOME POINTS FOR TRANSITIONING BACK here???!!! Where is the love???

Will the tailgate be serving lunch? Just noticed that Alumni tent isn't serving food until 3pm, after Trojan Walk, but that's when the stadium opens and those of us with general admin tickets have to get in and grab our seats. (I also have a date with T-Roy before the game I have to get in early for.) Speaking of, if anybody is in general admin seats and signs a model release, I need about 15 folks to take a photo with T-Roy for an advertising thing. BigGuns - we are going to eat at 2:00, before Trojan Walk - there will be lots and lots and lots of folks/food/fun/festivities, I promise!!!

Wasn't able to attend a game last year because of two hurricanes. I am going to be pushing it to get to Troy before Trojan Walk. In the past I parked down by the Trojan Center. Is there any new parking areas they have opened up. I know the church parking lot will be full by the time I get there as possibly Trojan Center also. Can you park at the Arena also? You coming in that late, my suggestion would be to find a place off of George Wallace Dr. and pay to park. The Arena Lot is a reserved lot for season ticket holders as well as I BELIEVE the RVs moved into that area this year, or behind the bookstore somewhere. The place is going to be a mad house by the time you arrive and it wont be easy to move around. Getting out could be even worse. JMHO
