The next hire is one of the most important hire in Troy Football history. Our Program is one of the winnest G5 Programs over the last 3 years. We finally establishing our brand Nationally.
Can we be successful as Central Florida after Coach Scott Frost left, or we get a coach who has a drop off with the talent we have returning and recent recruited.
I know this is a business; but, how can these players/families buy in when coaches are not loyal to what was discussed in OUR living room.

I agree, the next hire will be even more crucial and probably is the (!) most important hire in Troy fb history. If you study the history of Southern Miss you can draw a lot of parallels: Bower coached there forever (like Blakeney here), then they hired young gun Fedora who coached at USM for exactly four years - and he was quite successful. Next hires were all busts and now USM is middle of the pack in CUSA. They went from being a Top 25 team to this within a few years: www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/report-southern-miss-gives-up-home-game-to-pay-ellis-johnsons-buyout/

Hartwell set the table for Jeremy and he has acquitted himself very well. We need the hire that'll land him in the Troy HoF.
No pressure, though.

Be nice if at all possible to have a guy who will stay more than 3-4 years

Be nice if at all possible to have a guy who will stay more than 3-4 years unfortunately the only way we keep a coach for more than 3-4 years is if we "slide" into mediocrity! We most certainly will be able to retain a coach that goes 6-6, 7-5, 8-4 every year. Remember, we had that in our last coach. Won a bunch of conference games, but did very little outside of the Sunbelt. Yes, we beat a couple of BAD Miss St. teams and years apart! You still want a coach for an extended period of time? I would rather change out every 3/4 years because our program has continued to get better and better and our coaches continue to get bigger and better opportunities. We will NEVER be able to pay 3 to 3.5 million a year for our football coach. But we may be able to pay 1 million and continue our winning ways and be a stepping stone to the next level for our coaches, and you know what, I, for one, am good with that. Next coach, win 10 or 11 games a year for 3 or 4 years at Troy (see our upcoming schedules) and he, too, will get an opportunity. Then we start this cycle all over again. These are exciting times to be a Troy Trojan right now, EMBRACE IT! We (Troy) has gotten more 'free' publicity than we would have ever been able to pay for because of this team and this coaching staff and administration. I say we focus on repeating our success, over and over and over again!! Bright days ahead Trojans - we are going to be just fine!

Is McClain in sole charge of hire ? The last time we faced the Football HC decision, The Powers recruited a SELECT committee of fans, Alums, and Troy Community supporters to help vet out candidates. I propose the following guidelines/qualifications in selecting a presumed SELECT Committee for the upcoming search process: 1) Dedicated Troy Fans only. Anyone who watches even ONE other College team play, whether regular season or Bowl Game or 'Barn or Bama games are excluded from SELECT status. Changing the Channel in the Stadium Club automatically disqualifies.. 2) Folks who live so far way that they cannot attend Troy Athletics events regularly. How can they know anything? 3) Non alumnae. Regardless of Sidewalk Alum status or Checkbook Alum status or Adopted Status, folks who are NOT bonafied Troy Graduates just can't bleed Cardinal and are categorically excluded. Troy Campus degreed alums, higher priority. 4) Folks who did not actually participate in Athletics during their years at Troy. How could they know the ins and outs of coaching, locker room talk and dynamics of sitting on the bench for Troy? Anyone without these experiences just doesn't know anything about college athletics and are categorically excluded. SOTS participation or offspring who are SOTS may get special consideration. 5) Long term season ticket holders get priority status for the SELECT Committee. Season Ticket holder in two or more sports? You may be asked to Chair the effort. 6) Trojan Warrior Status. ONLY folks who shell out annual major contribution$ care enough to be be qualified. Participation in the elite Weenee Warrior Program a plus. 7) Local Pike County industry and business C_O's and Staff who cozy up to AD's get priority status. Those who purchase dozens of discounted GA tickets are assured extra consideration. 8) Finally, if one is qualified on all 1-7 criteria above, the final, key factor will be reciting the AD's last name from memory 3 times within 5 minutes. Based on the above, I'd guess there are no completely qualified nominees that could be of any help to the selection of the next Haed Coach. ------*------ AD What's His Name is likely on his own.

And doubt there's time for a full "committee" per se. He will likely have a few advisers ... maybe a few folks that would've been on a committee .. to knock ideas around. But, for sure he's kept running list for at least the last two years. It was obvious Brown was taking pretty much the first P5 job offered. That's the career path ...
We need a new coach in place first of the week!!!

Tell us how you really feel. No beer bellies and only a certain amount of gray hair and lastly have at least three vowels in the last name I'm almost in! But, alas, I've worked a long time on this beer belly. Thusly, I shall withdraw from consideration.
