Anyone else notice Tulane got skunked by Virginia Tech tonight? A good turnaround season for the Hokies.

Happy for Neal. Glad he got the extra year to prove what he’s doing works.

I don't blame him. There is nothing much left to prove. He graduated, he won Sun Belt titles, he won a bowl game and he set all kinds of school and conference records. Save some of those car crashes for the NFL.

The "Aww Shucks" brigade is alive and well I see. I think there is a difference between “aw shucks” and “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”

Is college football rigged like wrestling? That dude was well past the line of scrimmage when he threw that pass.

If Gunnar isn’t 100% put Goose in. These coaches have zero desire to make adjustments since they are out the door I agree, but I just heard announcers say Goose had the bug, too. May be the reason for hesitation.

If they don’t overturn that stop, the fix is in. I know Duke’s endowment is worth more than the City of Troy, but this is a travesty.

We have to be smart. We’re playing in a different standard than Duke is being held to.

[ Bingo. IPFs are pretty but are so last decade. Money in the NIL talks louder these days. Agree they are eye candy but don't kid yourself it's not a issue for a player. Ask any player if they would rather practice in the blazing sun and heat, rain and mud or cold or an air conditioned indoor practice which one would they choose? Weren't we harping about facilities a few years back? If NIL is everything then we have issues at Troy True, I'm not saying an IPF is a total waste. It does allow for practicing in inclement weather, although you better practice in some inclement weather because it will rain on a Saturday in the South. Facilities still matter — it's just NIL is on its way to surpassing them in value if it hasn't already.

It was kind of shocking to be watching the D2 National championship game and looking up Harding to find out a private Church of Christ college of 4,000 students that prohibits any alcohol on campus or off, in a dry county in somewhere Arkansas has a beautiful 130 yd long indoor practice facility and here we are a eight time FBS conference champion program with six bowl wins, wins over Miss St, Missouri, Ok St, LSU and Nebraska doesn't have one and probably won't for another five years. Shows how bad the IPF is needed Harding is a Private Institution of a huge Private Religion doing The Lord's work, (College Football ?), with private $$$. Their choice. And you'll just jump in for the extra $5 mill the Chancellor needs to get started? And where is CJH gonna get the $10 mill from?? Read between the lines, this is a damn $truggling institution as it is! Well, I suppose Troy Admin could lock all the doors at Impact, Graduations and Ahletics event, pass the plate and not let ANYBODY out until $XXXX are collected each event? Not me. My $$ go to people (staff) who can change lives, create healthy citizens and oh yeah, win a few Championships along the way. IPF at Troy? Eye candy. Meh, just another Temple to the whomevers. Recruiting? NIL and Portal relegated the IPF recruiting attraction to the rumble seat. Please, someone convince me how BAD IPF is needed at Troy. A few days of Spring practice?? And that justifies $15 mill? [ Bingo. IPFs are pretty but are so last decade. Money in the NIL talks louder these days.

I wonder if our new HC is dropping any hints to GG and the crew on how to beat Duke since he has done it this year already. It was with a good dose of one of the nation's leading running backs. We have one of those, too.

I think it's hard to have every viable candidate on a "fans' list" because we don't know the depth of connections and trusted voices leadership may have. John Hartwell hired Phil Cunningham, a guy he had crossed paths with 10-15 years earlier at Georgia State, not Ole Miss where he last worked before coming here. Brent Jones has been at Troy for about a decade, but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten the relationships formed while he was at Georgia Southern.
Then you may have coaches you'd never thought would be interested that reach out through their agents. Hartwell told me on multiple occasions that the world of college athletics is a fairly small place and almost "incestuous." Even the most connected fans probably won't be able to connect all the possible dots.

While there are the obvious Kentucky, Neal and Jon ties, this one was off the radar enough that I don't immediately hate it. I have questions, so I'm more curious than anything. I'll answer one: 11 stops in 15 years. I'm thinking this whole Coaching fraternity owns stock in Samsonite. It's seven different places since he was a GA 16 years ago. Yes, that's a stop every two-plus years, but some industries are like that. For instance, most broadcast journalists sign two-year contracts. Occasionally you find a place like a certain Montgomery station that offers three-year deals. Then, if you have ambition and are good, you're off to a bigger market. I'm not faulting anyone these days for short stays unless it's because of baggage. We don't have "stay here, raise a family and create generational wealth" money — compared to what's available elsewhere. Our administration just going to have to get really good at hitting the jackpot on hires every two to three years. Is it a tough spot? Yes. But it's where we're at until the economics of Troy and/or college athletics change dramatically.

I really hope this isn't another (The HC we don’t speak of) situation. I think fan base sentiment is a huge deal. Fans had nothing but praise for HCJS as well as coach Gas. Everywhere I look, ND fans are celebrating. Notre Dame averaged 40 points a game this year...when has that ever happened? And is still young-42. I'm sure there are other things happening like the staff bailing which Ho was figuring was happening. Especially the Defense. Going to be interesting but heck we just hired a guy from Notre Dame. That's never happened before. Sumrall leaving Troy didn't land us a front-page article on ESPN.com (it landed on the front page of the College Football section). Troy hiring Notre Dame's OC did. We're definitely reaping some cache off of this.

University is now doing some rebuffing: www.wdhn.com/news/local-news/houston-county/city-of-dothan/troy-dothan-could-close-down-report-shows/The university PR people have to do what they need to do (I'm in marketing), but with the economy rapidly changing, I appreciate a re-evaluation of even longstanding traditions, facilities, etc. In recent years, there has been a huge focus on trade skills. This is rightfully so given the retirements of baby boomers and a needed correction to the trend that focused on four-year degrees solely. Eventually, though, a focus on trade skills may saturate that market again, and you'll need a correction toward more four-year degrees. It requires vision to know how to adequately navigate the ebbs and flows of the economic and technological trends, and it will not be an exact science. I trust the leadership will make the best decisions.

I'd be careful of fans of a team like Notre Dame on Twitter. Some think ND should be 12-0 and National Champs each season so anything less and they want to run off their entire staff. There are Bama fans who want Saban out after each loss. As they should. Anyone can win 10 games at Alabama (see Dubose and Shula). It takes a real man to try to build a national title winner at a place like Troy.

We love athletics, and it's the biggest/most effective marketing effort any major university can launch, but we must first take care of our academics, right? I wonder if universities will rue the day when they built so many classroom and dorm buildings only to see everyone go online for schooling. I'm glad to see us take steps to be a research university. This may help fill some gaps. www.al.com/educationlab/2023/12/troy-considers-possible-closure-of-dothan-campus-restructure-of-academics.htmlHaving lived in Dothan once for about 12 years, I'm not totally shocked by this consideration. I don't think it'll outright close, but there is a lot of unused space out there.

Ho not have answer just know that ADJasonJones has been working hard on several fronts - more than just Head Coach. I’m expecting someone “in the know” to post a white smoke .gif when everything’s official.

Duke’s defense is deceptively good. Still, I think we’re the program with more solid footing. In a virtual home game, we win 19-10. It may be as ugly as last year’s Cure Bowl.
