It will be interesting to see what everyone says in two years. As for today, let's give HCGP a chance to show us who he is and what he can do. Glad we have a head coach, so now it's time to move forward.
Go TROY!

While there are the obvious Kentucky, Neal and Jon ties, this one was off the radar enough that I don't immediately hate it. I have questions, so I'm more curious than anything.

So it was true, had to hire someone that had been on Neal's staff. No forward thinking. Hard to figure. CNB demoted Gerad and hired another OC, after CNB admittedly called all the O plays himself that season. Chancellor Emeritus is beginning to sound better, and closer.

I'm so unexcited about this it is depressing my day. Why? look at the thread the energy. 11 stops in 15 years, DUI. He was basically gifted the OC job at ND cause Alabama shocked the world with the hiring of tommy Reese. I’ll be nervous cautious until he proves me other wise. But I think we could have kept Greg and been just fine

I will support unless he goes the (The HC we don’t speak of) route.

I'll answer one: 11 stops in 15 years. I'm thinking this whole Coaching fraternity owns stock in Samsonite. It's seven different places since he was a GA 16 years ago. Yes, that's a stop every two-plus years, but some industries are like that. For instance, most broadcast journalists sign two-year contracts. Occasionally you find a place like a certain Montgomery station that offers three-year deals. Then, if you have ambition and are good, you're off to a bigger market. I'm not faulting anyone these days for short stays unless it's because of baggage. We don't have "stay here, raise a family and create generational wealth" money — compared to what's available elsewhere. Our administration just going to have to get really good at hitting the jackpot on hires every two to three years. Is it a tough spot? Yes. But it's where we're at until the economics of Troy and/or college athletics change dramatically.

Because this in no way seems to be a hire we wanted, but instead a hire we made because there were no other options. My guess is the successful coaches we already have here were offered deals they didn't like or that were not enough to retain them. It can't possibly be that we were not interested. How could this guy be on anyone's top....10 list. Or heck, top 20. It's totally a guess but it's all I have to go on. It absolutely, really does feel like Jan 11, 2019 all over again. It's a disheartening hire to me. View Attachment Prove me wrong, coach. I beg you. Some of your points are not without merit and are logical. But don’t think it’s at Jan. 11, 2019 level.

I think it's hard to have every viable candidate on a "fans' list" because we don't know the depth of connections and trusted voices leadership may have. John Hartwell hired Phil Cunningham, a guy he had crossed paths with 10-15 years earlier at Georgia State, not Ole Miss where he last worked before coming here. Brent Jones has been at Troy for about a decade, but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten the relationships formed while he was at Georgia Southern.
Then you may have coaches you'd never thought would be interested that reach out through their agents. Hartwell told me on multiple occasions that the world of college athletics is a fairly small place and almost "incestuous." Even the most connected fans probably won't be able to connect all the possible dots.

Why are you all disappointed? Why do you not like the hire?
Have you seen how good Notre Dame's offense was this year? It was one of their best offenses in Notre Dame history.
The complaint from Notre Dame fans is that the offense was "up-and-down". It was up-and-down because they went on stretch playing three of the better defenses in the country in Ohio State, Louisville, and Duke...
Also, have you seen how Gerad Parker talks? He's cut from the same mold as Jon Sumrall. I would have to think that's one reason Brent Jones liked him.
Some of you need to research the guy better, instead of being so easily influenced about Parker because of Notre Dame's over-inflated message board fans and their thoughts on Twitter.

Heck, even ESPN said this about Gerad Parker:
"Parker has a similar background and personality traits to the last two coaches to have success at Troy -- Neal Brown and Jon Sumrall. Parker played at Kentucky with both of them and worked with Brown for two years as an assistant at West Virginia."
"He is considered to be a high-energy coach who brings a wide swath of experience. Per sources, Troy officials were attracted to his background both as an offensive coordinator and a recruiting coordinator. He's the second football hire at Troy for athletic director Brent Jones, who brought in Sumrall. "

Only time will tell if GP will make everyone on this message board happy and there is only one way to do that and that is win! I am ready to get behind him and his staff so they can guide our men of Troy to another SBC championship! Let’s face it for three years under the coaches name that we do not mention our offense was predictable and failed to produce and even over the past two years until the last part of the season we were winning but winning ugly! Granted a win is a win is a win but I am looking forward to our defense continuing its prowess but I am excited to see a very different and successful offense!

Think Sumrall hires him at Tulane ?

Troy just hired Notre Dame's OC.....let that sink in ...... Rumor has it he was going to be let go after signing day. Plus he was nowhere near ND's first choice. Utah OC was the choice, but his OC buyout was $3M. They turned to a couple of others who for some reason or another did not want it. I hope he does well. I truly do, but knowing how it came about has me concerned. Mostly with CJH and it totalitarian control with his lifetime contract and no board control over him. He went against board wishes with this hire, so I hope he knows what he is doing.

During any coach search, a lot of trusted input is asked for and received by AD’s BJ is good at it and for it. So a lot of “noise” is generated, in all different directions. Yeah, he wasn’t on the top tier list but he could be the perfect fit or the worst disaster, life is funny that way. We will see.

Think Sumrall hires him at Tulane ? I've dealt with Craddock since he played football and high school at Briarwood and I asked people at Troy about him this year. Arrogant, is first thing they use, talks down to people. But, I will say this and look at Troy's 2nd half performances. Did a very good job with the offense and if you look at where it was from beginning of the season last year, where is was average to this year, where it got better every game. I though he did a very good job making adjustments. His personality is not ready for an HC job, but I did not mind the job he did as OC. Don't know about his recruiting. Craddock was average at UAB, but they had a defense first mindset there and offense played to that. Maybe why he worked so well with Sumrall.

I like Craddock! I like several of the names that were supposedly considered but I am doing like everyone else is doing and digesting this ! I am going to put a positive spin on this because there are alot of positives to be found ! The reality is that no matter who would have been announced the message board would have been divided! Bottom line is if we win I don’t care who is the coach! I think there is a good chance that after the bowl game Craddock is gone and hat decision was probably already decided ! I’m sure that Gerad has a plan to try and keep current coaches or to replace them quickly with qualified replacements! The only real concern I have is the leadership from our chancellor! I support him because He brought us Larry, then Neal , and JS I’ve watched the program grow and the North End Zone facilities are top notch ! Now a commitment of an IPF All in all except for three years and perhaps 2 additional years at the end of LB things are really good! We need to understand what happened with JS leaving is an opportunity to get better and figure out how to survive in a small market while dealing with a new football culture where loyalty is where the $ is.

Can we at least be honest and admit that ADBJ had nothing to do with this hire. This was the micromanager CJH's hire and his alone. This is not a knock on ADBJ, but he is powerless under CJH. Trust me, this was strictly the hire between Parker, CJH and Neal Brown. If you notice the first quote on X (Twitter) on the hire released by the school is from Neal Brown. Again, nothing against AD BJ, but as at a lot of schools, the AD had nothing to do with this hire.
