Again, a nice guy. At this point, We need a proven program builder / re-builder. New Brown was somewhat of lightning in a bottle but he had been running as OC and its responsibilities for 7 or 8 years, and his offense were good. Trying to recreate The Neal Brown experience at Troy with guy who was here while Neal Brown was here and is nice and visits tailgates before games is a mistake. Name a proven program builder? Bill Clark at uab. He's about the only one troy could afford. Was neal brown a proven program builder? No. I wasn't totally on the neal brown train at first but I saw in the first season some change. We took a chance on (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). It was a bust and now we have to rebuild but honestly who is out there that is a proven program builder? Curt Cignetti Everything we need.

Pipe dream. Lateral move at best. Ansley will get a serious look and rightly so...and take out the fact he is TMTDM. He's paid his dues at the highest levels. Seriously, Gruden hired him and Brandon Staley hired him. Getting a major gig in the NFL no joke. Neither is their workload. I like the fact he is defensive minded too...let the OC take care of the Offense. We need attitude on the D-side of the ball. We have it sometimes, but not enough. We needed a stop last week and couldn't get it - granted, the offense and special teams gave up essentially 17pts.. I tend to enjoy your post but your obsession with Ansley is just that, Obsessive! To say that we need “attitude” on the D-side of the ball is worrisome as well. We definitely don’t need to worry about the D-side right now. Ho's obsessive posts are a counter to the fantasy world posts about a coach whose next move isn't going to be to Troy, Alabama. I could care less who the next coach is going to be, other than he better know how to communicate with the Alumni, fans and students. And yes, we needed a stop last Saturday and couldn't get it. A Brick Haley-type attitude on the D side of the ball is needed.

I know of one FCS coach (from NDSU) and won national championships that moved directly to P5 and it was Kansas St. Most every other one including Brian Kelly went from D2 (multiple nat championships), to G5 to P5. Maybe he goes ACC from FCS, he would be the first. I'd dang sure be on the phone with him before I assumed anything. If he says No then you move on. Explore every avenue not just someone who played at Troy, coached at Troy or has SEC in his title. Explore all options because you better get it right or we become the Uconn of the South

Cignetti is 60, he is probably thinking P5 or stay where he is

Two hottest young FCS head coaches are both out west. Aaron Best at Eastern Washington and Jay Hill at Weber St

If so, then why is he too good for Troy but the great Ansley (and to some Sumrall) aren't? From what I'm hearing about them they could both replace Saban or Swinney tomorrow and not miss a beat. Is it true that I-AA HCs ARE a better choice than untested position coaches?
Things that make ya go hmmmmm.

Uh yeah. Compare Neal Brown to Steve Campbell.

Uh yeah. Compare Neal Brown to Steve Campbell. I hurt for Steve because he is friend of 30 years but we learned a valuable lesson from Neal Brown and that there are intangibles that work and we better find that again because (The HC we don’t speak of) basically has none of the character traits or intangibles that Neal had to turn a dumpster fire (and this years team is not a dumpster fire) into a winner and turned out some fine young men in the process. Every player that played under Neal Brown became not only a better player but a better man for the lessons he taught

Uh yeah. Compare Neal Brown to Steve Campbell. Bringo! This fascination with proven winners at IAA level is refuted more often than not. Where did Chan Gailey head coach before he was at Troy? Rick Rhodes? LB? Neal? It actually is about culture, attitude and personality. I remember Kansas going to the Orange not too long ago-how did that happen? It took a larger than life personality-too large for many at a basketball school. Troy doesn't need that big of a jolt to turn the ship around.

It just needs some direction and leadership...and yes, maybe a swift kick in the pants. If that means wearing ties to the Trojan Walk so be it.

It also happens with great assistant coaches. Muschamp, Weiss, Zook and the last Tenn coach. Chan Gailey, Rhoades, Brown and others all have a set of intangibles and the first one is DISCIPLINE and that doesn't mean The Junction Boys it means doing things the right way. As a matter of fact I still use the team motto we had that Coach Gailey put in and it was put on our lockers " Do Everything The Right Way"

You're starting to sell me on this Curt Cignetti guy but my question is does he have a buyout at JMU? I doubt Troy would fork over the cash to buy a coach out of his current contract then turn around and give him more money.

I like Ansley along with Mr. Ho
Not just because he is TMTDM but because he is a great coach and will bring an edge with him for the defensive side of the ball. The fire he would bring would ignite the entire team in my opinion.
DC at Tennessee for 2 years Part of the staff of 2 Alabama NC teams
He’s not just a DB coach.

How many times can we expect lightning to strike in the same place? Neal Brown and Larry Blakeney were both exceptional. We're seeing what happens when an SEC assistant that has no clue, no philosophy, and no culture of his own tries to take over another program and let everything else run as usual. If either Ansley or Sumrall are hired they had better win, and they had better win right the hell now.

Waiting on Jack to make a call.... BUT 1) a 4th year of (The HC we don’t speak of) Lindsay, based on the final games outcome is still a real possibility. Especially if he rips off wins against GATA and TX st. And upsets Coastal on National TV. If Jack believes the team is still behind him.... Prepare yourself accordingly.
