MATT MOORE
Position: Asst. Head Coach/Offensive Line
Louisiana Tech head football coach Skip Holtz announced on Jan. 24, 2013 that Matt Moore has joined the staff as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach.
In his first season at Tech, Moore coached a squad that last four starters to graduation. Entering year two, his unit lost another three starters to graduation.
Moore came to Louisiana Tech after spending a year at Middle Tennessee State where the Blue Raiders went 8-4 and upset Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division Champion Georgia Tech. He brings a wealth of experience in the spread offense philosophy as he has coached it his entire career.
"I am very excited to have Matt Moore join our staff," said Holtz. "He is an energetic, hungry coach with a strong spread offense background that will complement the rest of our offensive staff well."
The Blue Raider offensive line finished the season second in the nation in fewest sacks allowed while Middle Tennessee was 46th nationally in rushing with three different 100-yard rushers. MTSU topped the 200-yard rushing mark in five of the team's 12 games while Moore's unit paved the way for true freshman Jordan Parker to set a school freshman rushing record of 851 yards on the year.
"I am really excited to join the Louisiana Tech Family," Moore said. "This group may have lost four seniors from last year but we still return some athletes that I am really looking forward to working with. Coach Holtz's enthusiasm and background, along with what this University and community has to offer, made this a wonderful opportunity for both myself and my family."
A veteran at the high school and collegiate coaching ranks, Moore joined the Blue Raider staff after serving the previous five seasons as offensive line coach at Texas Tech.
Moore's offensive line at Texas Tech in 2011 helped the Red Raiders to rank 7th nationally in passing (345.4), 13th in total offense (470.6), and 22nd in scoring (33.8).
In 2010, Moore's relatively inexperienced unit allowed TTU to throw for 4,146 yards to rank 7th nationally and 15th in total offense while making a big improvement in the running game. The results ended in a TicketCity Bowl win over Northwestern.
In 2009, Moore faced his most difficult coaching task since joining the Red Raiders as he was forced to replace three starters on the line from 2008, including two All-Americans. His unit showed continuing improvement over the course of the season which culminated in an Alamo Bowl victory over Michigan State.
A better season couldn't have been scripted for Moore's offensive line in 2008 as three players earned All-America status, including Rylan Reed and Brandon Carter, who were named to the Walter Camp and AFCA first teams. Carter also was named to The Sporting News first team, while Louis Vasquez picked up AP third-team honors. Each also was named to various Big 12 All-Conference teams.
The offensive line proved to be the catalyst of the 2008 offensive unit, allowing a single sack per every 54 pass attempts, a number that led the nation. Additionally, the group paved the way for 28 rushing touchdowns, the second-most in school history and the most since the 1993 team tallied 30.
The Red Raiders picked up another NCAA passing title that season as Graham Harrell led an offense that accumulated 413.2 yards per game through the air. Harrell went on to win the Unitas Award and was fourth in Heisman voting at season's end.
Moore's unit turned in a successful season in 2007, allowing a slim 18 sacks in 763 pass attempts. The ratio of one sack per every 44 pass attempts led the country. Additionally, Vasquez and Reed showed discipline and poise as both were flagged only once each for holding calls. The duo also allowed only three sacks on the season.
Behind the protection of the offensive line, Texas Tech won its fifth NCAA passing title in the Mike Leach era in 2007. The Red Raiders averaged 470.3 yards per game through the air, and quarterback Graham Harrell led the nation in passing and won the Sammy Baugh Award as the country's top quarterback.
Moore came to Tech with one year of collegiate coaching experience at Troy, where he helped lead the Trojans to an 8-5 season in 2006, including a New Orleans Bowl Championship over Rice.
Moore's stint on the collegiate level was preceded by successful runs as a coach at the high school level in Georgia and Alabama, where he quickly established himself as a top prep coach. During six seasons as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Hoover (Ala.) High School, Moore helped lead the Buccaneers to three consecutive Class 6A titles and a 77-7 record.
He began his coaching career at Pickens (Ga.) High School in 1996 and continued at Hoover High School after two seasons. Moore served as head coach at North Gwinnett (Ga.) High School, before joining the staff at Troy.
A native of Canton, Ga., Moore played at Valdosta (Ga.) State, where Leach was the offensive coordinator. He started 34 games during the 1991-94 seasons at left guard and was a first-team All-Gulf South Conference selection as a senior.
Moore received his bachelor's degree from VSU in health and physical education. He and his wife, Kelly, have three daughters - Tanner, Reece and Sutton.
GREAT HIRE!!

From a parent that had a player recruited by Coach John Schlarman and CoachLarry Blakeney....i could not be prouder to say my son is a Troy Trojan. And the fact he is a Larry Blakeney player makes me more proud than anyone can imagine. When he recruited him and talk to us the day my son committed...i had 1 request. It was "raise him like he was your own". Kick his A** when he needed it...pat it when he earned it. Otherwise....he's yours to finish molding. Thank you Coach Larry Blakeney....for being that next building block on making my son a man. Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards

Myself, Wife, son's girlfriend, and mom in-law. And can't be prouder fir what Coach Blakeney has done for my son and his playing career. I don't post here much but feel like due respect is due to this man. He has taken a university from a little small college to D1 level that, despite their current record, is respected through out the NCAA. As a parent, I am DAMN proud to say my son plays for Troy University. I wear it like a badge on my chest. Whether in Troy or at home in North Alabama. Go Troy!! #GATA

Eight Troy offers - two committed to TROY, two committed elsewhere, and FOUR still NOT committed. At least it appears that we are not giving out offers as freely as other schools, which means the brighter student-athletes will hopefully interpret as a POSITIVE IF they receive an offer from Troy - they MUST REALLY want me :-) NOT sure how accurate this article was considering MANY of them did NOT have any offers and EVEN MORE had not committed - and this is the Top 100! My guess is that all offers are not listed. Maybe just the top 3 or 4 to that recruit. I'm sure you're right....

This is something from a writer - I'll find his name - that I have shared with a few of the players in the past. I used to know more of them on a first name basis than I do now. Sixteen Consistent Charateristics of Greatness HOW THEY THINK 1. It's personal - they hate to lose more than they want to win. 2. Rubbing Elbows - the understand the value of association. 3. Believe - They have faith in a higher power. 4. Contagious Enthusiasm - They are positive thinkers...they are enthusiastic... and that rubs off. HOW THEY PREPARE 5. Hope for the best, but they prepare for all possibilities before they step on the field. 6. What Off Season - they are always working towards the next game - the goal is what's ahead and there is always something ahead. 7. Visualize Victory - They see victory before the game begins. 8. Inner Fire - They use adversity as fuel. HOW THEY WORK 9. Ice in their veins - they are risk takers and don't fear making a mistake. 10. When all else fails - they know how and when to adjust a game plan. 11. Ultimate teammate - they will assume wahtever role is neccsary for the team to win. 12. Not just about the Benjamins - they don't just play for the money or the future money. HOW THEY LIVE 13. Do unto others - they know character is defined by how they treat those who cannot help them. 14. When no one is watching - they are comfortable in the mirror - they live their life with integrity. 15. When everyone is watching - the embrace the idea of being a role model. 16. Records are made to be broken - they know their legacy isn't only what they did on the field. They are well-rounded. I copied and pasted this and sent it to my son. Would love to know who the writer was. Thanks for posting this
