Although I trust the hires Brent Jones has made since becoming AD... I'm still terrified we're going to make a bad hire.
I see these other SBC schools that have hired coaches that make you scratch your head... like Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss, and ODU... and I don't want that to be us again. We can't handle another Fester that sets us back 10 years.

Personally I think if we got Rich Rod, maybe he could give us 5-7 years of stability before retirement. He’s done a fantastic job up north. I don't think he's done moving back up to the P5. He'd leave JSU in a heartbeat if a P5 wanted him. No way Rich Rod ends his career at a G5 school.

#1 for me is Bill Clark - he's a proven winner and would keep things moving steadily. Also a great recruiter. If you can win big at UAB, then you can win big, if not bigger, at Troy.

There's no option for polls on here still. So I'm curious who many on here prefer.
I've seen names such as Bill Clark, Bryan Harsin, Greg Gasparato, Joe Craddock, Cadillac Williams, Derrick Ansley, Jordan Lesley, Tommie Robinson, Al Pogue, and even Matt Entz (NDSU head coach).
I really like the idea of Bill Clark. He's a proven winner and has a certain unique attitude to him, and would run a similar style on offense and defense.
Keeping guys like Gasparato or even Craddock keeps everything flowing smoothly also.
I have an issue with wanting to bring in Neal Brown guys. They would change the offense up and possibly more, and I don't want to see Troy go back to an offense that is framed on the spread offense. I like what Joe Craddock has done with it.

Agreed. I'm still trying to figure out why Sumrall put such a high priority on remaining the co-DC for Kentucky all the way through their Jan 1 bowl game... Yet he can't be Troy's HC all the way through our Dec 23 bowl game? I have to be honest. That's been bothering me the most. Isn’t it common for hired away coaches to not be there for the bowl? Talking about head coaches Yes... And it's also common for position coaches and coordinators to not be there for their bowls either. But Sumrall certainly made sure he did that for Kentucky. It apparently wasn't important enough for Troy though.

Agreed. Will be hard for me to pull for Tulane.

No to Mike Turk.
No to Jordan Lesley.
No to Tommie Robinson.
All three of those guys are great guys, but they aren't going to bring the same energy that the players have been used to. We'll have a transfer portal explosion.
Turk has been very good at Huntingdon, but he hasn't set the world on fire there.
Jordan Lesley hasn't had good defenses at WVU.
Tommie Robinson has never been a coordinator, but we're going to move him to HC of a top-tier G5? At least Sumrall was a co-DC at Kentucky.

I won't lie. If last year at the end of the season you would have told me that Sumrall would go to a G5 school and Craddock was a likely replacement I would have thought things went downhill bad. However Craddock really earned my trust because the offense is significantly more explosive this season and overall looked much sharper. He’s smart. Could be a perfect fit! Is Craddock a rah-rah guy like Sumrall though? Does his personality make you want to run through a brick wall? Craddock doesn't seem super energetic, unless I just haven't noticed it.

It's a done deal according to news sources. We need to start looking for a new HC and try to salvage signing day News sources don’t know what we know. I’m hearing that it aint done and Troy is fighting. We are a second half team. Tulane could fold. That said, if we win, yall better open those wallets. I’m talking wide open. Are you blowing smoke? No more details?

I'd be okay with him going anywhere else besides another SBC school, Tulane, or UAB. I hope he doesn't pick Tulane. I can't stand them, and won't pull for them if he's there. Just curious, why Tulane hate? The fans aren't the most congenial. They're very uppity and don't care a bit.

Let's take Grayson McCall and watch the rest of the SBC lose their minds. The meltdown that would happen would be unbelievable. I'm sure he winds up going to a P5 though.

Speaking of transfers...
Remember QB Peter Costelli?
He transferred to Northern Colorado after last season.
Northern Colorado just went 0-11... and Costelli never played a snap.
It seems as though Costelli may not have been the real deal after all.

Please let us play against a P5 school for once. I'm getting tired of playing the same rotation of MAC and CUSA schools.
Give me Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Rutgers, etc.

I'll be surprised if Mark Stoops goes to TAMU.
Texas A&M wants to win big NOW. Mark Stoops doesn't exactly give them that. I think he could be successful there, but I don't think he's splashy enough.
I think they'd be more likely to pursue Bob Stoops, Kaleb DeBoer, Jedd Fisch, Kyle Whittingham, etc.

Same exact problems as last season. Can't shoot, slow ball movement, and can't play defense.
They seem worse than last year from what I've seen so far. Last year they were competing well in a lot of those extremely tough early OOC games. So far, they're getting down early and just aren't keeping up.

We have handrails so good, that when you use them, you get souvenirs all over your hands in the form of paint chips. That goes great with our warm and tasty hotdogs. Other than that, it's a nice stadium. Ever been to MTSU's stadium?? My foot fell through a step leading to the visitor upper deck there. Every step felt like it was made of fiber board or something. That stadium has gotten ragged.

Neal Brown probably will be fired soon, so we good if HCJS leaves. That won't happen. Also I don't think NB is the same coach now. He was hungry when he got to Troy (Like HCJS is now). Don't think he has the same fire I think Vic Koenning was a key part of Neal Brown's success.
Could Neal Brown run it back at Troy and re-hire Vic Koenning from ULM?
I'm also not sure how Neal Brown's offensive-scheme would jive with the personnel we have now. Troy's not a spread offense team anymore, and that's undoubtedly what NB prefers.

This opening scares me. I feel like Jon would have success there. Think about Mullen…8 wins a year and they are happy. Yeah, and what's it going to look like now with Texas and Oklahoma in the mix?
Mississippi State will never win an SEC title now. It's a place where someone will now go just to be a middling coach, with a rare 10-win season possible.
Their 2024 SEC schedule:
@ Georgia @ Texas @ Tennessee @ Ole Miss Florida Texas A&M Missouri Arkansas

That was gut wrenching to see the end. Troy played well. The youth and inexperience just couldn't finish it out like a veteran team could.
It's promising to see. I do wish Scott Cross could've gotten one or two experienced guys from the transfer portal though to help this year.
Regardless, if this team can stay intact, we could have a very strong team next season.

Winning talks, but programs also want young energy.
Auburn folks probably would've taken Cadillac Williams over a proven 55 year old winner (Hugh Freeze) if they had any say.
Colorado wanted Coach Prime over almost everyone.
64 year old K.C. Keeler is still at Sam Houston State, despite being one of the most successful FCS head coaches ever. He's had interviews, but has never been hired. Heck, Texas State interviewed him... and wound up choosing 34 year old G.J. Kinne... who only had ONE year of head coach experience.

So here's a question that's been on my mind and though I have some possible ideas but no good answer to settle it. HCJS has one season under his belt at 12-2 with a championship and a bowl win. We look to be on the same trajectory result this year. Some of us have already worried if he'll be snatched up and gone by year three. Slim odds on it but still there's a chance. A similar year three and those slim odds go to say, a greater than 50% chance or much higher depending on outside circumstances and prime opportunities opening up elsewhere. James Madison is in their FIFTH season with Cignetti with a record of 50-8 so far. His salary is mean to below average there. I did a scan of their board, albeit a quick one. Not much talk or concern of him going on anywhere it would seem. I'm just pondering on why that is. It's not like JMU is a nobody program. They were a known element even before moving up to the SB. What do you suppose the difference is? Cignetti is definitely being looked at. Cignetti will also be 63 years old when the next football season rolls around. Hiring young stars, NFL coaches, top recruiters and having extensive CFP experience is where's it's at right now.

I'm not sure what to think.
It was hard to gauge against a Ft Lauderdale team that seemed to get gassed pretty easily after halftime.
I think they've got a good, cohesive group that plays well together. Connerway is legit.
I'm not sure if the team is as athletic as they were last year. Or maybe they are?
Either way, everything looked good. We'll definitely know where we stand against Ohio.
