Only good thing is Napier and Neal have struggled with the move from the Sun Belt. Yes, Drink has a great year at Mizzou but the others might sour. Not a good move for JS other than money. SEC west is brutal with Bama, A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, Auburn, LSU and Texas and OK coming

This opening scares me. I feel like Jon would have success there. Think about Mullen…8 wins a year and they are happy.

I believe you are right. Beginning next year, there will be no divisions in the SEC, top two teams go to the 'ship.

Mississippi State and soon to be Arkansas are not great jobs. They will both live in the bottom third of the SEC for a long time with the addition of UT and OU. Sure the money is great, but the job is not for those who want to compete for championships, it's for those who want to be content with 7-5 as a "great" season.

And as we are witnessing that is not what Jon is about. He wants championships and division championships don't count. I know the SEC is going away from divisions which probably will make it that much harder to compete. When the administration is happy with 8-4 seasons that is not a place Coach Sumrall wants to be at I wouldn't think. Tiny little Troy has higher expectations than that and he is achieving what he was hired to do but I still think he has more to prove to himself and us as fans here at Troy.

I would dare say that you are right with the slight exception of Arkansas could one day be a little more competitive. The natural environment surrounding the immediate area with growth is ripe with possible money e.g. Walmart is located just next to Fayetteville. The area is a rapidly growing. That may allow for a more lucrative long-term outcome. However, I don't see that possible to the second cousins at Miss State. The established programs are going to be hard to beat with ANY consistency. I would just give the edge to the hog hat wearing folks over those more domesticated cow bell wearing folks. Still, has taken years for Texas to come close to competitive. Then there is the fiasco at A&M. The SEC has a few places where coaches could go to NOT further coaching life.

Remember what Bobby Bowden said to Neal Brown: “You could win for a long time here at Troy.” Neal is 28-29 at WVU. If I was HCJS, I would wait for a premier job: Bama as an example.

Bama would NEVER hire a coach from TROY, no matter the level of success said coach has enjoyed. That would be so beneath them.

Mississippi State will never win an SEC title now. It's a place where someone will now go just to be a middling coach, with a rare 10-win season possible.
Their 2024 SEC schedule:
@ Georgia @ Texas @ Tennessee @ Ole Miss Florida Texas A&M Missouri Arkansas
