I wonder if a lot of these players that enter the portal are just trying to position themselves for more money from the school there at.
It seems like the Ole Miss NIL would be more willing to find a way to pay more for their star player that has entered the portal, versus if he decided to stay and wasn't in danger of leaving.

Just search "Troy offer" on X, and you'll see where HC Gerad Parker, Caleb Carbine, and our LB coach have been recruiting hard for high school, JUCO, and portal players.
Lots of very talented players with great size and high ratings that Troy has been going after.
Things are looking good.

The only reason Liberty got the spot in the New Year's Six game is because they decision makers don't watch the games. They just saw that Liberty was undefeated and rubber stamped the deal. Never mind the Flames didn't play anybody all year and their reward was getting boat raced on national TV to Oregon. It will hurt Liberty and CUSA in the future next time they have an undefeated team.

Keeping an eye on this one.
No way he comes to Troy. Jabre Barber was our leading WR, and he's already getting offers from Texas A&M, FSU, Kansas State, and South Carolina. I'm sure Notre Dame's leading WR will get similar offers.

A Troy player that's not in the portal revealed why our starters are going into the portal. He said simply, they're not getting paid.
It's not all because we lost Sumrall. Could be another reason Sumrall went to Tulane. They have a wealthy NIL collective that can "buy" top G5 players.

This guy needs to be celebrated, taken out to the finest dinner Pike Co allows, lifted up on everyone's shoulders at parties, and to be sung to with "He's A Jolly Good Fellow" over the stadium loudspeakers at noon every day for a solid semester. Someone, take him to Sister's for the buffet. Let him go nuts.

DE Raymond Cutts announced on X that he's staying in Troy.

I love his post. A true Trojan.
He'll be a handful next season. Sumrall was very high on him. He played in 12 games this year with 19 tackles, 2.5 TFL's, and 1.5 sacks. He'll be a handful next year.

His recruiting has certainly been good. Keeping the latest recruiting class intact... especially keeping most of the star recruits as well, was big. I'm sure that was no easy task.
Troy had the #1 recruiting class in the SBC in terms of average recruit ratings.

I'll be surprised if Chris Lewis stays at this point. Unless he just really wants to stay close by so that his family can see him play.
And yes, we might as well go ahead and call 2024 a rebuilding year unless Gerad Parker pulls off a 10+ win miracle season. It's going to be difficult though.
This all looks very similar to what happened to Louisiana after their 13-1 season and lost their coach... they wound up losing most of their starters to the portal. They went 6-7 the next year.

Thank you for everything Kimani!

I remember when a lot of App State fans weren't sure about Eli Drinkwitz when he became their HC after Scott Satterfield left App.
Drinkwitz never stayed anywhere very long, and his offenses were "good" at NCST, but certainly not anything great. App State also had an almost entirely new coaching staff.
Next thing you know, they go 13-1, ranked #18, beat UNC and South Carolina, and win the SBC title...

Horrible news. I wish Tulane could stop stealing from Troy for just 5 minutes. If there was a way the university could actually be better at getting our wealthiest alumni to donate, we'd probably be able stop wealthier schools like Tulane from taking our people.
There are a lot of wealthy Troy alumni out there that just don't have any sort of connection with the university anymore, and certainly not with athletics.

Troy doesn't have $2 million a year to give a head coach. Nothing about Jack Hawkins can change that.
Troy's fundraising/donations/ticket sales have certainly increased... but our alumni giving amounts are still not significant compared to schools like Memphis and Tulane. We don't have any mega CEO's giving to Troy like they do.
Even App State, as much as they love their football and want to win everything... they can't even afford $2 million a year. And I'm sure if they had big money, they would've done everything to keep Satterfield and Drinkwitz.

Just hope we keep the kid from Montgomery Catholic...Ho hear is a still a solid commit, but until the papers are in, that other guy might steal some of our kids. And let's be honest, if he flipped to NELa, are we really that upset. 3* QB Caleb McCreary from Montgomery Catholic is official a Trojan. That's huge. Not let's get Jywon Boyd signed, and we're going to be in good shape.

With a new head coach named, does anyone know if Coach Gas still runs the bowl game? Any insight on who stays or goes from the assistant coaches? Go Troy and See you in Birmingham. Coach Gas is still going to be the head coach for the bowl game.
Gerad Parker will not be coaching. He might be there to watch, but he won't coach.
As for assistants, I don't think many know who stays or goes... but seeing as Jon Sumrall hasn't actually hired any outsiders for his staff yet after nearly two weeks... I'd say it's a safe bet that most of our staff, at least the coordinators, are likely to be heading to Tulane after the bowl game is over.
It's possible there are a coaches that are left though. It appears Bam Hardmon (DL coach) may not go to Tulane, because Sumrall has retained Tulane's DL coach.
It's also possible that Gerad Parker offers someone like Taylor Polk the DC job, and Troy retains staff via promotion. It's hard to say really.

QB Commit Jim Ogle flipped to ULM. Will sign there. 3 Star Keion Dunlap (Enterprise), signs with Troy. I'll take that trade-off.
Dunlap is a highly-rated 3-star. He chose Troy over Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi State, Indiana, and UCF.

Yes. 1, Troy fans need to understand that. It is who we are, yep reality. Why you treat these coaches to an extent, like paid mercenaries. HC Parker would not be at that podium, spewing all his feel goods if Troy was not paying a lot of money. 2, Sumrall saw that he was going to be nickeled and dimed to death even after delivering b2b championships. He wanted out. Saw his chance and took it. The good coaches are aggressive and ambitious, they want more. 3, Doesn’t mean Troy can’t be successful and I fully expect to win. Troy can and has overcome its challenges. HC Parkers job is to win, he can work harder than anyone, I don’t really care, judge him on whether or not he wins, plain and simple. You obviously do not live IN Troy. We've been involved with Troy Athletics here since 2004. Win or lose, locals also judge these Coaches and staffs on how they handle themselves in the Pike County community. Over the years, the involved staffs are usually the winners on the field!! This family should fit just fine. Uncle Fester has been the most obvious non-community guy that I've seen in decades. It felt like he did absolutely nothing.

I liked him. I was impressed.
I like that he mentioned the importance of keeping our defense a TMTDM defense.
I also liked that he seems to want to retain as much of our current staff as possible. He see's the quality coaches that are already on staff, and isn't trying to clean house to bring "his guys" in.
LET'S GO COACH PARKER!!

Heck, even ESPN said this about Gerad Parker:
"Parker has a similar background and personality traits to the last two coaches to have success at Troy -- Neal Brown and Jon Sumrall. Parker played at Kentucky with both of them and worked with Brown for two years as an assistant at West Virginia."
"He is considered to be a high-energy coach who brings a wide swath of experience. Per sources, Troy officials were attracted to his background both as an offensive coordinator and a recruiting coordinator. He's the second football hire at Troy for athletic director Brent Jones, who brought in Sumrall. "

Why are you all disappointed? Why do you not like the hire?
Have you seen how good Notre Dame's offense was this year? It was one of their best offenses in Notre Dame history.
The complaint from Notre Dame fans is that the offense was "up-and-down". It was up-and-down because they went on stretch playing three of the better defenses in the country in Ohio State, Louisville, and Duke...
Also, have you seen how Gerad Parker talks? He's cut from the same mold as Jon Sumrall. I would have to think that's one reason Brent Jones liked him.
Some of you need to research the guy better, instead of being so easily influenced about Parker because of Notre Dame's over-inflated message board fans and their thoughts on Twitter.

We need to buy in. This is NOT a bad hire at all. If the fans buy in, the players buy in, the recruits buy in, and then their parents buy in. That's only going to help Troy sustain success. Gerad Parker is another LEADER. Very similar to Jon Sumrall and Neal Brown. He's definitely not another (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of)/bald menace. Just look up his interviews on YouTube. He's a smart guy that knows his stuff and is a definite leader and motivator. And he is apparently a phenomenal recruiter. DON'T LISTEN TO NOTRE DAME FANS. THEY DIDN'T LIKE HIS OFFENSIVE STYLE, despite the incredible success they had offensively this year. Trust that Brent Jones knew what he was doing! He's got a proven track record that we can't deny.
