Sumrall talked to media today. www.troymessenger.com/2023/01/27/sumrall-discusses-midyear-additions/Some points from it, Troy has three guys that have signed their letter-of-intent that haven't been announced yet (will be announced on Feb. 1). He also expects to add at least one more transfer, specifically an offensive tackle. There are multiple guys (Class of 2023/transfers) on official visits this weekend along with "priority" walk-ons and Class of 2024 guys. This is the last weekend for recruiting before the dead period.

USA Today 2023 College Football Poll has us ranked #24 going into next year season. It's great to be a Troy Trojan. That's not updated. Final one hasn't been released.

Josh had mentioned 4 more signees in another thread. I am assuming that is accurate but how long will be waiting to hear about them? Just odd that they are going to do their own announcement at another time. Does Josh or anyone else have more information? Like these are actual NIL signees? That came straight from Sumrall. These are signed, they signed their NIL yesterday. Each one plans to have their own signing ceremony/announcement at a later date and the coaches agreed to hold their names back until then. He said "a couple" would be in February (the usual signing day) and the others "in the coming weeks." He implied one was a four-year transfer.

I believe that's another reason why Sumrall is bringing in all of these big 6'3" and 6'4" receivers and tight ends. 100%. Both Sumrall and Craddock have talked about the big body receivers being ideal for the offense. He obviously wants to be able to stretch the field but Craddock told me flat out that if a guy can't or refuses to block he also won't get any touches.

JUST A REMINDER… We don’t know the reasons that players leave, not a need to know! We sometimes FORGET that “reasons” CAN include conversations with Troy coaches that MIGHT encourage some to look at other options. Especially when we are locked into 85 scholarships. Ding, ding, ding.

At least one more 4-year transfer is coming (possible announcement tonight). A total of four more players have been signed that have not been announced yet (players asked to hold back so they could do their own announcements). Sumrall said they are also working on adding a couple of more JUCO signees as well (one of the four is also JUCO).

This, he's a junior going into his senior season. Big-time commitment from a JUCO linebacker today. I know everyone kind of salivates over the talent in the transfer portal from other FBS schools but there are a lot of kids in JUCO over the next cpl of years I think Troy is going to be reaping the benefits from. www.troymessenger.com/2022/12/19/troy-lands-top-rated-juco-linebacker/

What stood out to me more than anything was how "to-the-point" and blunt he was about this upcoming recruiting cycle (filling some very glaring holes that will be left by the seniors with players that can make an impact immediately) 20 minutes after ending the season. His mind was already on who he needs to talk to today. I know this might rub some the wrong way (and attract some eye rolls), the more I talk to him the more Saban vibes I get.

I think about 60% of the portal players are not picked up.Sad,because alot of those guys will not continue on to get a degree. So,they won't turn pro in anything.... It's a little over 40 percent that don't end up signing somewhere else - or have to walk-on - which is a staggering number itself. Also, less than 40 percent of FBS transfers land anywhere at all, too. The portal is trickling down to FCS, DII and the JUCO levels and will also start impacting high school athletes, as well. It's going to be a solid (in a sense) for FCS and JUCOs as far as maybe some high school kids that would have gotten FBS offers in previous years but it's going to get to the point where every single level will be affected.

A few exits up is Maitland. The Sheraton is about $149 and is very nice and about 10 minutes away! Going the other direction are all the hotels near Universal! If you are staying near the stadium do not walk anywhere west of the stadium! The stadium is very nice and is also very safe but do not stumble anywhere west of the stadium! I'm staying on S. Orange Blossom Trail. Am I going to die?

I keep eagerly awaiting the Game Notes for USM to be released, but nothing has been released. Aren't they usually released on Mondays?
I'm mainly curious who the starting QB will be this week.
They were released Monday but game notes won't tell you anything. There has been little to no movement at all on the depth chart that's publicly released all season. Duynkrea Lewis is the only injured player I've seen removed from any position all season. I don't think Carlton was even moved the week he was out.

Instead of worrying about a uniform....we need to figure out how to use a Tempo Offense with the players on the roster or we going to get blown off the field. I can safely say that Jon Sumrall nor anyone on his coaching staff is spending more than 30 seconds on what the uniforms will be each week...

Instead of worrying about a uniform....we need to figure out how to use a Tempo Offense with the players on the roster or we going to get blown off the field. This coaching staff has moved away from the Tempo offense. Don’t think they are figuring on that one. But the uniform reveal is a PR thing, not really associated with the coaching staff game planning. Sumrall has said he has no intention of doing tempo for the sake of it but if that is what will help them win now, they will do it.

One thing I've noticed... against Ole Miss and Alabama A&M, it would have PAID OFF BIG to have a QB doing the run-pass option. Time, after time, after time, there were DE's crashing in to get to the RB. There were so many opportunities where if our QB had running ability, he could've taken off around the DE for a significant pickup of yards.
That play you just analyzed was one example (only difference is the WR wouldn't be waiting for a pass in the hashes, he'd be blocking). That DE was too aggressive going to get the RB. If Watson had speed and running ability, he probably runs in for a TD.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES. GIVE PETER COSTELLI SOME RPO PACKAGE PLAYS!!!!!
I haven't seen Peter play in practice, so I can't say for sure, but I get the feeling that his passing ability is not where it needs to be. He may need another year to be the guy. There should definitely be some packages designed for him this year though. From my limited knowledge (of just watching, I'm by no means a coach), Costelli is just inconsistent right now and he relies on his legs probably a little too much even when it's not necessary. I do agree some RPO/option style packages with Costelli could definitely be a benefit and I think we will definitely see it at some point.

The only truly poor throw/bad decision Gunnar made IMO was the pass on the flea flicker. That ball should have never even been thrown, not a single player on the defense was fooled. He was excellent in the second half, especially when they went no huddle and he even acknowledged after the game he's extremely comfortable doing it and thought that helped him/the offense. The fact that there are people that really believe Gunnar is getting replaced after the game he had is absolutely insane to me. Not saying Doege won't get a shot at some point but I just don't understand how so many seem to be enamored by him throwing a pretty ball against an undermanned defense that had just had almost 400 yards rolled up on them in two quarters by the time he got in the game compared to the guy that rolled up that nearly 400 yards. With, like you said, no running game. His understanding of the offense is still extremely limited, too. The lack of a running game is the thing that is going to continue to hurt. If that continues to happen it's going to spell disaster for the offense and the team in general. The defense has also played extremely poorly in the start of two straight games, one against an FCS opponent, and Sumrall is not hiding from that. As others have mentioned, making adjustments at halftime and playing better in the second half is great - and needed - but you can't keep playing that poorly in the first quarter and be in games against teams like App State, Louisiana, Western Kentucky, etc. Was the TD throw in the north end zone to the left OVER THE LEFT SHOULDER where only our guy could catch it - please reply yes or no The throw to Lewis? Yes and it was beautiful. But why? Oh and Tez Johnson has been dealing with a rib injury since fall camp and I believe he aggravated it against Ole Miss.
