Coach sumrall gave Tulane a number he didn’t think they would pay. When they said sure he went to Troy to see what they could do. I know it wasn’t $2.5 million. He would have stayed for that but a $300k bump wasn’t worth it. Until the alumni stop supporting those schools that didn’t support them and Troy can get medical school or engineering school type money Troy will never be able to compete. It’s a shame that former football players for Troy have season tickets for the schools who didn’t want them to play. They won’t support the school that recruited them is mind boggling. I have daughters at both of those schools and I don’t support them at Troy’s expense. He wanted out. He got out of Troy what he needed. He wasn't staying for $2,000,000 or $2,500,000. He was in it for the money and he jumped first chance he got Man, I’ll repeat myself yet again. It wasn’t all about the money. Troy people need to look inwards, up the hill so to speak. We are not crapping gold bricks, Troy has some warts. Leadership. Yea, he wanted out for various reasons, issues on both sides. I’ll be blunt, Troy will be a true stepping stone for coaches. Until Hawkins leaves, It has ZERO chance to change. I will be surprised if Troy isn’t looking for one of the cheapest options to hire. Hope I’m wrong. But….

Please elaborate on issues that would have been influential in making XHCJS want to leave!

I meant other than that ! It was implied that there were more reasons than just compensation!

I meant other than that ! It was implied that there were more reasons than just compensation! Just a guess. 1) Egos 1) Feelings 1) Pride Tough to be Fond of anyone just now.

I meant other than that ! It was implied that there were more reasons than just compensation! Never a silver bullet answer. But most ambitious and successful chefs want to run their kitchens how they see fit, especially after noted success. And want to be provided with the budget to maintain 5 star status that they have been providing. When a restaurant in a city you like, offers you complete control on how to run your kitchen, the budget to do so and will pay you 3.5x more than your current restaurant is paying, and you don’t see your current owner changing, well…

Fair enough! Great analogy! With XHCJS being the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt, I’d love to see how our assistants compared. My understanding is Brent made a galleon effort to keep him here But I don’t know how the effort affected the staff.

Please elaborate on issues that would have been influential in making XHCJS want to leave! NIL at Tulane, The perception of AAC vs. Sun Belt, easier to recruit to New Orleans vs. Troy, Tulane's facilities, etc...

Please elaborate on issues that would have been influential in making XHCJS want to leave! NIL at Tulane, The perception of AAC vs. Sun Belt, Tulane's facilities, etc... NIL at Tulane, is real for the G5 level. Their star QB, Pratt got a lot of money bags after they won the NY6 Cotton bowl in 2022 against Heisman trophy led C. Williams USC and Ho’s song girls. Enough $$ that he stayed for this season

Now that I've had time to decompress, Thank you XHCJS for what you have done over the past two years. You have set us up for success and I wish you the best.

Interesting comments from Sumrall’s press conference at Tulane. Paraphrasing: will not hire any staff from Troy or take any player from Troy before Troy’s bowl game. (After Bowl?, coaches for sure, players we will see) Quote Jon Sumrall: "I'm telling you right now...I'm speaking this into existence. We're gonna make the College Football Playoff and we're gonna win it. "We are going to sell out this stadium every time we play in it." Quote Jon Sumrall: “If I’m at Tulane for a long time, I’ll be really happy.” Very interesting on Why he choose Tulane: world class institution, vibrant city, etc. etc. Watch it. I will admit it was weird watching it, as Troy supporter Nah. I'll pass.

Watched the Tulane presser announcing Jon Sumrall He acknowledged TROY and his appreciation for everyone to include the fans. I wanted to hear his remarks to gauge my response to his leaving. With that here goes…
Jon Sumrall is a class act. I am disappointed that he is now a rival to “The School We Love” but I also get this is a business decision that he feels is best for his career. In my profession, I am not spurned by money so I can say I wouldn’t leave my current position for 3x the money just simply bc I took a 3x cut to do what I do. But for Jon in his career choice and me in his same shoes, yeah I’d go to the next gig for 3x and he will do it again because he’s a good coach perhaps will become an iconic coach with the genuine love he shows his players.
Here’s what he’s done for me… Granted I am not a money man for TROY. Realistically a peon if there ever was one when it comes to money donated. Support, however, is to rival that of any other TROY fan. So what he did for me was a completely selfless act of encouragement to another human being in a fight for life against bladder cancer.
A care package that included a personal video of encouragement from him to me. Yeah it took him all of 5 minutes to do that for me but that’s invaluable to me and speaks to the kind of man he is. Also Ginny communicated multiple times with my wife to let her know that I was in their prayers.
I didn’t get to shake his hand and personally thank him for what he meant to me in this battle with cancer. I hope to do that one day soon.
Much respect for the man who refused to let TROY fall. Much appreciation for confirming what many of us already knew and that is that TROY is minimum standard 10+ win program with a very bright future. Much love for a brother in Christ who lifted me and my family up to the Healer God we both serve.
In His peace,
Kevin S Davis (KSDTrojan)
