There is not a one of you who would not take a 300% raise unless they asked you to have relations with Hillary Clinton. Then you would at least consider it. Having relations with Hillary Clinton = Living in New Orleans. Both are sketchy, immoral, stink, can make you vomit and can kill you

All of you with inside sources… Did Jon have a meeting with the team? Or planning to? Or is it just peace out? Team meeting- I sold all of you out to move laterally for money. Peace out, good luck in your bowl game now But you, you, and especially you, come play for me

So who on here will man up and say you’d turn down your current salary times 3?

I appreciate what Jon did for us and will be thankful for 2 great seasons but the sting of him leaving for another G5 (even though the money Tulane has is insane and I totally understand him leaving) will take some time to get over. At the end of the day it's business for many but as a Troy fanatic I can take it personal sometimes.

The way it was reported I thought Troy went wild and found a way to get close to $2.5M or something. I also never would have assumed Tulane would have offered $4.5 but more like $3.

What Tulane 1st offered and what Sumrall agreed to was definitely two different numbers. They wanted him. $2.5 million from Troy. Yeah that ain’t happening

Losing Coach Sumrall feels different than when we’ve lost other coaches/players. I rooted all season for Tez Johnson. I’ve rooted for Neal Brown and West Virginia. Right now, I don’t ever see myself rooting for Tulane. I hope they lose every game.
With Sumrall, we got into a situation where we were rooting for our coach, not just our team and school. Coach was the face of our team. The videos, the press conferences, the tee shirts. Troy fans could claim something (someone) special that no one else had and everyone else wanted. All that got snatched away in the blink of an eye. The timing hurt. Not getting to say goodbye hurt. Going to a team we are in every way equal to hurt.
Maybe I’ll keep going through the stages of grief. Perhaps someday I’ll mellow and remember to be thankful for all Coach did for us. Maybe I’ll remind myself that me and 99% of people would have turned out the lights and left the room before it got dark if I could triple my salary.
But for now, I’m going to root hard against Tulane. I’m going to root hard against Houston for starting this mess for us (twice!). And if I ever ran in to that bum Dana Holgorson…

Alright…I’ve slept on it and I was pissed yesterday, but today I have a little more level head.
Head coaching is Jon’s job. Why do any of us go to our job everyday….to get a check. It is about the money. If a former employer of mine called me and offered to triple my current salary to come do the same job I was already doing in a very familiar setting, and I was happy when I was there in the past…I’d take it to better my family.
I believe Jon loved Troy. I don’t believe it was all fake. But it’s a different love for him than for us. We are alumni, or long time community supporters, we love Troy on a different level and we can’t imagine walking away from it. For a coach, it’s a job and they love it while here, but they come and go.
The timing sucks, but think about it when Neal left. It was after the bowl game and we were behind on the carousel. Now at least we have a bit more time.
I’m thankful for Jon and how he turned our program around. We have a better AD doing this coaching search. We should be OK.
Go Troy!

Well said and since you guys have young children you are exactly right. Maybe at my age you might just say I have way more than enough (that is not the case) and 09 you know I myself charge massive rates for my services or seats at the Vet. But there is no way we pass it up!

Jon was hired to a job, got paid to do a job, he did that job. That why one should not get attached to these coaches like some do. If Troy didn’t pay him, he wouldn’t show up for work. Just like everyone. Now what mechanisms and culture they build and say to achieve their goals for the program is different but it’s all wrapped up in the prism of the rah-rah, attitude, ”love” and puffing up the players so they can maximise their performance. Did JS care for the team and players ? Yes. Was he going to ultimately take care of his career and family ? Yes. Both can be true at the same time. Will say this, as details continue to come out, JS was looking to move out of Troy. His reasons are his own. He was not just a passive player in all the head coach openings/attention, he and his representatives were aggressive to move on. And that is fine for me. Like I said, he got hired and paid to do a job, he did it well. When I see so many people get angry and upset at JS… y’all just don’t need to get attached to these coaches like there family. Ultimately they are a means to an end. For one thing, this is not that last time a successful coach will move one from Troy. Invest your emotional (and financial) support into the program as a whole. Times have changed, Treat these coaches as hired guns, mercenaries, because that’s what they are.

He used Troy to make his millions and exit stage right. No loyalty, no thank you....just bye at the first dollar sign. Yes I'm still mad. But I'll be getting the emails and mail asking me to up my contributions so the next guy can use Troy and our money to pad his wallet at the first opportunity Just the reaction I expected here. Ok so, Let's NOT pony up for dear old Alma Mater. Now we can afford a mediocre candidate that goes 6-6, 7-5 year in and year out for 15 years?? An occasional Bowl Game, no Championships? This ain't your College football of the 1980's man. I'll take a Sumrall any day, win Championships and be a young Coaches doormat to P-5!

About donations:
For your money, you got back 2 back championships.
I would consider that getting your money’s worth.

Aggravates the H#ll out of corn as well but we adapt if we are to survive the challenges successfully.
