100% If you want to retain staff and athletes you announce this weekend. In todays world of TicTock and Instagram you make power moves. Make the power move that's not AuBarn leftovers but AuBarn greatness and do it within 48 hours: Not no but hell no. We should have learned our lesson with Auburn retreads by now. Your right. Some other older bald white guy will work this time so long as they are not associated with AuBarn.

He wouldn't be a "retread" they haven't fired him. Also we hired this one guy from up there a long time ago and it worked out ok, we even named some small spot on campus after him.

Here is my problem with it. All of us knew CJS was probably going to leave within 3-4 years especially with his success here at Troy University.
However, with the talent he had here at Troy, there was a very strong possibility that Troy University would have been the first G5 Program to get in the 12 Team Playoffs.
Now, we have to start all over again. Now Tulane going to be that team with our Coach and some of OUR players.

I think Pogue and Williams would be legitimate candidates

I’ll get me an Escalade truck just for game day. Lets do this. Prime was a power move but he was a bit much full of himself and learned a hard lesson. This is about retaining what we have and not “starting over”.

Possible replacements let’s debate: Matt Moore Cole Papaolvich Jordan Lesley Carnell Williams AL Pogue Cadillac will not leave Auburn. He’s probably getting paid more than we can offer and he’s a legend there

So close to being in GREAT position for first expanded playoff next year. Man I wish XHCJS would have stayed one more year. Tough to lose him to Tulane of all places. This is a good reminder and example that it is all a business and it's all about money. Troy has to get to that $3-4mm a year level to retain a coach longer than 2-4 years. I am so grateful that he left the program better than he found it. Bummed he is gone and the ripple effect it will have.

Man, some of y’all are really angry. Why so much hate towards the man ? The guy went from $1 million to over $3 million. That is wealth, if saved right that truly sets up his family for life. He believes he can thrive there, they have nice facilities, it recent success proves you can win there, and he won’t be living in the projects. I have zero problem with a man improving his and his families lot in life. Our chooses are our own. He made a choice, I respect it. And he worked his A** off while he was here. I salute the man and wish him well. Made Troy a better place. It is a lateral move. That’s the issue. I would be good if it was a P5, like CNB, then I’d have zero issue. It’s Tulane. Let that sink in…Tulane. And if you can’t live comfortably when making over $1 Million at Troy, then you might not be a good steward of your money. Not to mention all the players in the current roster that will go with him. Last time I ever buy into the love and family bs from a college coach

And what was all that "Yeah Troy asked me to show up for work.." bullcrap. Not gonna even lie, I've lost a ton of respect for the man. May Tulane go 0-12 for the next 3 years and make WVU look as if they made a SMART move with Neal Brown. Money talks, yes, but loyalty still matters. This was a poor exit to me. I know some of you will disagree but I'm not trying to sell ice cream or win friends or anyone's approval. A poor exit. So yes..adios... and don't waste no time packing up. Just get the heck out of town and over to that cesspool of an outdoor toilet. Bye.

I never want to see him in Pike County again and I sure as hell don't want him standing on or wearing anything Cardinal or a Power T. I hope Judas enjoys his 30 pieces of silver.

"On behalf of Troy University, I thank Coach Jon Sumrall for the outstanding leadership he has provided our football program," Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said. "Jon has made good on his promise to return our proud program to a championship level. In turn, our commitment to the football program is unwavering, for we will soon add an indoor practice facility to our beautiful campus as we appoint a new head coach to lead our program. Troy University remains steadfast in our pursuit of excellence and status as a leader in the Sun Belt Conference. We have a championship-winning culture within our football program, and I have full confidence our next head coach will continue that winning tradition." "I would like to thank Coach Jon Sumrall for his exemplary commitment to excellence these past two seasons leading our storied football program to back-to-back championships," Jones said. "Troy University, thanks to our incredible university leadership, has a proven track record of unwavering commitment to success and invests heavily in the development of our student-athletes. With a Sun Belt leading eight conference championships, 10 or more wins in five of the last eight seasons, a forthcoming indoor practice facility and cementing our status as a leader in our conference in commitments to our coaches and student-athletes. "We look forward to identifying the next leader of our program who will continue our trajectory as the premier football program in the Sun Belt," Jones said. "Our process will be thorough and comprehensive as we select our program's next head football coach."
