With Jax State now FBS and in conference USA what is everyone's thoughts on renewing this rivalry again. In it's day it was one of the best small school rivalries in the country. Personally I relate to this rivalry much more than South Alabama and I think most alumni would too. I would love to see us play again and Whup Jax St!;!

I am sure there will be a lot of pushback from fellow board members, but this was an awesome rivalry back in the day. Made for some very interesting gameday signage and messages on Homecoming floats!
Go TROY!

If they want to play us…..sure! But like the P5 do almost exclusively…..at our house only!!! If they win once then 2 for ones with them are fine.

From '95 until the time we played them last, I experienced that rivalry. The only thing about it that was competitive was the trash talk amongst the fan bases. The games were not at all competitive, we OWNED them. The rivalry with 🚫 is a much better one, IMO. Even though we've won the last few times we played, the games are more competitive, they are our conference mates, and the hatred between the programs runs deep. Rivalries aren't only about FB games and if you don't think a rivalry exists between 🚫 and our beloved TROJANS, read up on the history of baseball and basketball games between us. Don't just read game recaps, but find somewhere you can read the back stories to those games. The hate is real.

I think, historically, they have been the best band in the region and one of the best in the nation. I don't, however, go sit in 98 degree temps and 70% humidity for 8 hours on September and October Saturdays to see and hear marching bands. I couldn't care less about the battle of the bands. Put a quality, competitive product on the field in the form of a ball game, or I'm not interested.

I'd rather play other opponents. Scheduling JSU does nothing for us, and does everything for them.
Keep scheduling Army, UAB, Nevada, WKU, etc. It's mutually beneficial.
I like our rivalry with South Alabama better than JSU. Only 5 times has that game not been featured on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU. Plus our games average around 25K attendance, and even had a game that had 30,800 fans. I doubt JSU would be able to do that.

Same argument for why 'Barn & 'Bama don't schedule Troy.Inconference important for sure, and OOC games need to present Regional/Nationally visible match-ups. cornhole rather see Tulane, UCF, SEC-type contests. Even like to see us kick FAWhoo Owls again.

Now granted I understand your point I don't go to football games either to hear the bands but they are part of the tradition

Let Jax St. wallow in their mess a few years then think about playing them.

No more Jax st. I was at Troy there at the end of the rivalry. Froze to pieces the last time we played there with ice and the propane heater blew up on demontray Carter. Play Uab Ucf. Shoot play Vanderbilt and no more Mtsu either I cant stand them

Jax State needs to become relevant first.
Winning OVC titles and getting smashed by Tulsa ain't doing it.

Twelve college football games in a regular season.
I can't imagine a bigger waste of a college football Saturday than to actually seriously consider this. Talk about "looking in the rear view mirror"...
Onward and upward.

Negative Ghost Rider. It doesn't benefit us. We've moved on since the days of the Battle for the Old School Bell. Besides, the last thing I want is a battle of the bands with the current direction of the Sound of the South.

Since we will be there and they won’t it is very unlikely we will play them again.

We can’t talk S*** about Alabama and Auburn not playing us if we don’t play them. The stadium would sell out so that alone is probably worth it. I don’t want to play them on the road though. I’d rather play them vs. other Communist USA teams. We need more sellouts at the Vet. Let's face it, they will likely join our conference once theirs finally implodes. I like this idea 10 years from now. No idea why we want to play Sam Houston again.
That being said, getting UCF again should be our top priority. I'm sure they are looking for closer travel games now that the Big 12 is taxing their travel budget. Playing Nevada does nothing for me and likely will have average attendance. Even worse, why did we agree to a home and home vs. UMASS?

Even worse, why did we agree to a home and home vs. UMASS? The Nevada game was a brokered deal involving BYU. BYU needed to switch around their schedule since they were joining the Big 12, so they gave Troy their home game against Nevada, while also letting Troy keep the BYU home game at a much later date.

Even worse, why did we agree to a home and home vs. UMASS? I say this with peace and love to you mlambertii. Yes we can. We have played them many times. In fact, they have the advantage in the series: We are 29-32-2 against. Here's my take: We earned our spot in FBS the hard way. There were some seasons where we didn't have 6 home games because we were on the road earning our place. I was a kid when the rivalry was hot. I was there when the stadium was sold out for those games. I once asked my father what "Truck Foy" meant. This game was nothing but drunk college kids talking S***. There were always fights at the games. There was no love, only hate. I won't extend a hand to those arseholes.

Became a Trojan fan in 2003 and could care less about another bunch of chickens. It's even difficult to get my head around South being such a "rival". If we're gonna play out of conference, let's $chedule meaningful matchup$. The K$ States, Ole Moldy Mi$$'s, L$U's, Nebra$ka's etc provide greater opportuniy and $$ games. On the other hand, if you Traditionalist want to risk it, we could schedule the Jax Chickens as our warm-up game??
