I don't want to play against a school that makes weird hype videos with this: That can’t be real. You folks never saw that Jax State preseason hype video? Man... you're in for a treat. JSU deleted it from their Twitter a while back because it was so embarrassing. But the internet never forgets.

Play Jax St. They are a rival. They I-A now. The rivalry would become almost instantly electric again. It’s ok to have and play multiple rivals in a season.
Who cares if they are our little brother in the state, we shouldn’t be afraid to play anyone, anywhere at anytime.
We have 4 non conference games a year, plenty of room to play the money games with the P5. We have scheduled or played, Sam Houston St., UMass, Florida A&M, Nicholls St., Alabama A&M, Southern, Eastern Kentucky, Campbell, etc. most of those games saw or will see a lot of aluminum fans and are/will be 20x less electric than a Jax St. game.
The students will gravitate and go all in on this rivalry, as we did.
Play it, we ain’t scared.

Would be a huge crowd at either place in my opinion plus the Battle of the bands would be back on At the risk of life and limb, I'm going down this rabbit hole. I enjoy the SOtS. I think, historically, they have been the best band in the region and one of the best in the nation. I don't, however, go sit in 98 degree temps and 70% humidity for 8 hours on September and October Saturdays to see and hear marching bands. I couldn't care less about the battle of the bands. Put a quality, competitive product on the field in the form of a ball game, or I'm not interested. SOTS cost us 4 points on Saturday. They need to reclaim their role as assets to the team. When I was on campus, SOTS were the fiercest student fans in attendance. Now? Well, now, "they wanna do the wave".

Board has now gone to crip walking the SOTS on down the road… At least the OC getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to cost us points every Saturday….

I stand in the JSU needs to get a better reputation before playing us corner. They have nothing to offer if we schedule them and beat them. WKU atleast offers a history of success in FBS and CUSA championship teams.
If JSU starts winning CUSA championships and having top 25 teams, we can revisit the convo.

They need to earn their way like Troy did. Starting a rivalry with JSU again doesn't help Troy out as much as it helps them out. Playing JSU again gives them FBS relevance.
It's not much different than East Carolina not wanting to play UNC-Charlotte since they began football... except now they are forced to since UNC-Charlotte moved to the AAC.
Everyone now wants to call East Carolina/UNC-Charlotte a "rivalry", which only helps Charlotte's relevance, and actually hurts East Carolina's reputation.

They are to me like the radio guy who needs to pay to be broadcast by a station. Pay for play. Pay us to come play us at our house and we will allow you to be seen on the same field as us. I was at Troy from 94-99 and like Hemi said..they mean nothing to me.

As I said before: there's 12 games in the year. I can't imagine a bigger wasted opportunity than using one of those 12 Saturdays playing JSU. I'd far rather play MTSU again.

This board NEVER ceases to amaze me! Why in the world would you want us to turn down A REAL SELLOUT, meaning all the seats are occupied, not some scheme to sell all the tickets (see Army game 2022). The economic impact of a TRUE SELLOUT would be astronomical for the game day experience, for local businesses, for the entirety of Pike County and the surrounding area?
The competition would be AWESOME! Not just on the playing surface, but the bands, the student sections and US, the fans! The atmosphere would be ELECTRIC!
I dont know a damn thing about "the rivalry" or the history or the butt hurt feelings some may have. I DO KNOW that travel expenses and cost to the program, I'm guessing, would be SUBSTANTIALLY LESS than traveling to UMASS (thank you COVID for putting that game in the back burner and is now scheduled for 2025, or Nevada in 2024. I promise you Jax St is a BETTER TEAM and program than either Nev. or UMass, but some on this board sound as if playing them is beneath us, or we gain nothing, or... blah, blah, blah.
Does anyone, besides me, see the VALUE of playing a team that is going to help ROCK THE HOUSE? Anyone see how valuable to the program this game could be? How being in a FULL STADIUM just makes it better? Anyone?
I know nothing about the emotional stress the past has put in some of you ref Jax St. I do think MOST of those in this board have no idea either. Can we just please look BIG PICTURE for once? Put our bias, hatred, disrespect and whatever else you feel deep down and put it aside for the good of the team, school, town, county, state???
Or, we just sit back and preach, "No, no, no to Jax St, they aren't worthy, they haven't paid their dues, does nothing but hurt Troy and help them and ANY OTHER BULLSHIT you want to put out there. If you are scared, SAY IT! I just don't think we are! Also don't believe Brent Jones will look to this board for advice, although I think SOME OF US believe he will!
BRING ON JAX ST, REALLY Pack the Vet, EXPLODE the game day tailgate and have the loudest, largest, most engaged student section EVER!
But hey, that's just me, an old man trying to figure out the best way to gain revenue for the program, engage the fan base, and bring in THOUSANDS of dollars into the local community. I can see why some of you wouldn't want that, NOT!!

Just because one went to Troy in the 2000’s or didn’t go at all, and it doesn’t mean anything personally, doesn’t mean it’s not the absolute best thing for the Troy program. And you hit on it, why are the people on here so for playing Eastern Kentucky, Sam Houston St., UMass, etc over Jax State ? The alumni and the ENTIRE student body would eat this rivalry up if it restarted. It would be awesome. Again, Excellent post.

Is the Nevada game the only point you picked up on from his post ? Can’t see the forest for the trees. There will be 50 Troy supporters (if that), at the Nevada game in Reno. And probably on ESPN+ if we lucky.

This game will happen - just not in Troy. The promoters of the Camellia Bowl will jump at the first chance to have a Troy - JSU game.

I agree with some of your points, but I think the wolfpack caught an unwarranted stray here. You missed my entire point here, it IS NOT ABOUT a teams G5 success or whatever, it's about practicality and program costs, travel for fans, students, band, team.... You play Jax St instead of Nevada, IN JACKSONVILLE (for comparison sake) and 15-20K Trojan Fans go to that game! Please try and see the concept and not hone in on the examples. Hell, replace Nevada with Utah St, same/same.. SMDH!
