Georgia Southern, Alabama and the old Penn State teams missed that course because their uniforms are plain jane, ugly and have no pizzaz. They win in them though Yep. Georgia Southern could have worn pink and beat us. New flashy uniforms are cool. They are not s determining factor in winning.

Maybe. Incorrect. Don't take my word, go take the course at the university. If the players surroundings are irrelevant why is the current locker room not acceptable. If a group of players said the new unis made they feel like warriors and they felt inspired, would we tell them that is irrelevant ? Willing to bet you do not speak for the board. Let's see if the administrator will respond. Ok. Not everyone agrees on a message board, that is what makes it fun. Answer the questions though: Incorrect. Don't take my word, go take the course at the university. If the players surroundings are irrelevant why is the current locker room not acceptable. If a group of players said the new unis made they feel like warriors and they felt inspired, would we tell them that is irrelevant ?

Flashy uniforms, flashy facilities, and even flashy college girls to shoe you around campus help in recruiting. They do not help block, tackle, pass, catch, or run. If the new uniforms helped motivate them that's great. It did not change their talent or ability level. Now if you are speaking of a specific player I will be happy to ask them if the uniform gave them super powers to play better.

If flashy uniforms made you win then Oregon woukd be National Champs every year....they haven't won 1 yet. They help with recruiting, the players probably like them and the fans think their cool but they aren't Tony Starks suit, they don't make you bigger, faster, stronger, tackle better, throw better, cover better, block better or win. Coaching, talent, heart, desire and discipline are the only reasons you win.

I think Hemi and Saint should chill on this debate. I don't think either of you can really claim to be inside the head of a modern 18-21 year old college kid and know what really influences them. Although I think one of you may be more in touch with the team (Hemi), but the other may actually be on the right side of this argument.

So those 5 are the ONLY reasons you win ? Can you influence desire ? One of your 5 Desire and heart you can't coach. You either have that or not. A great coach recruits kids with character and brings out the utmost of these traits. All the talent in the world means nothing when you have million dollar ability but a 5 cent head and we have our share of them right now but we also have a bunch with heartband desire and they need the right coach to show what that does.

I'm not liking the execution of these uniforms today, though I'm not opposed to the idea. They are definitely not silver though - 100% grey. What would improve them - first off, the red helmets just don't go. I get the practical reason for using them, but a grey helmet with the red Trojan logo would fit much better - that and the mismatched red or white longsleeves the players are wearing don't go. But it's not a fashion contest, so if they win it won't matter a bit. And if they lose it won't really matter either. You do realize that "red" is not a current Troy color, right? I'm not designing a dress or painting a wall - you knew what I meant didn't you? I am quite aware it's referred to as cardinal just as at FSU it's garnet, but as a shorthand it's all just shades of red.

I have taken pride in every uniform I have ever worn, for sports, for our nation, and even now, every week, when I put on a set of stripes. The pride I felt/feel in each uniform had/has absolutely nothing to do with the flashiness or even the color of the uniform itself, it had/has everything to do with who and what the uniform represents! I guess I am just not a fashionista!

Every time I see a thread like this, the pointless bickering over folks opinion, I'm reminded why I don't visit very often. Some of you people can't seem to accept that someone else has a different thought on a subject and therefore, if they DO disagree with you they are wrong. Pretty solid commentary on the status of the country as whole. "IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME YOU'RE WRONG." We all need to step back and respect that someone may see things another way.

If everyone agreed all the time the board would really serve no purpose. One person would start a thread and then you would have 5 pages of " I agree". Would you come back more often to read that?

Coaching, talent, heart, desire and discipline are the only reasons you win. Obviously, uniforms have no impact on a players ability to execute except when it relates to fit and flexibility. They may impact, if only slightly, a recruits decisions. When you don't have a big city with night life and whatever to party in or you don't have a Knute Rockne, Paul Bryant or a Nick Sabin to walk into a home to talk to mom and dad or you don't have crystal chandeliers in your dressing room classy uniforms just might be a selling point to a kid sad to say. Now I know Bama and Penn St. have blaaaaa Unis. But they also had Bryant, Sabiin and Jo Pa! It couldn't hurt Troy to have a little flash with class. I have known coaches that believe that flashy uniforms TAKE AWAY from performance because of misplaced importance as in names on your jerseys but to each his own.

Helps in recruiting and helps with fan recognition I understand your point and don't completely disagree but I coached for a man who won multiple state championships and was the best DISAPLINARIAN I ever saw in HS athletics and he would not put names on jerseys under any circumstances. Said it is a TEAM sport and it's all about "team" not individuals. I get it, for the fan it's nice but IF you want strong discipline that just might be a pill you have to swallow!

I have to agree with redwave on this. names on the back of the uniform shirts are used more times than not to promote the individual not the team on the front of the jersey. I COMPLETELY understand what you are saying, I just buy a program before every game ($5) and use the middle part for both schools. The money goes to a good cause and I get a lot more information than I was getting with the name on the back of the jersey.

I understand that completely but Troy did it when Blakeney came and we had tremendous success. We have no names now on jerseys and absolutely no discipline. I just think that a player woukd like his name on the jersey.i would have. Two sides to it but almost every team we play had names, including Georgia Southern, UAB, App. st. USA. Can't hurt imo.
