With a new head coach named, does anyone know if Coach Gas still runs the bowl game? Any insight on who stays or goes from the assistant coaches? Go Troy and See you in Birmingham. Coach Gas is still going to be the head coach for the bowl game.
Gerad Parker will not be coaching. He might be there to watch, but he won't coach.
As for assistants, I don't think many know who stays or goes... but seeing as Jon Sumrall hasn't actually hired any outsiders for his staff yet after nearly two weeks... I'd say it's a safe bet that most of our staff, at least the coordinators, are likely to be heading to Tulane after the bowl game is over.
It's possible there are a coaches that are left though. It appears Bam Hardmon (DL coach) may not go to Tulane, because Sumrall has retained Tulane's DL coach.
It's also possible that Gerad Parker offers someone like Taylor Polk the DC job, and Troy retains staff via promotion. It's hard to say really.

QB Commit Jim Ogle flipped to ULM. Will sign there. 3 Star Keion Dunlap (Enterprise), signs with Troy. I'll take that trade-off.
Dunlap is a highly-rated 3-star. He chose Troy over Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arkansas, Maryland, Mississippi State, Indiana, and UCF.

Yes. 1, Troy fans need to understand that. It is who we are, yep reality. Why you treat these coaches to an extent, like paid mercenaries. HC Parker would not be at that podium, spewing all his feel goods if Troy was not paying a lot of money. 2, Sumrall saw that he was going to be nickeled and dimed to death even after delivering b2b championships. He wanted out. Saw his chance and took it. The good coaches are aggressive and ambitious, they want more. 3, Doesn’t mean Troy can’t be successful and I fully expect to win. Troy can and has overcome its challenges. HC Parkers job is to win, he can work harder than anyone, I don’t really care, judge him on whether or not he wins, plain and simple. You obviously do not live IN Troy. We've been involved with Troy Athletics here since 2004. Win or lose, locals also judge these Coaches and staffs on how they handle themselves in the Pike County community. Over the years, the involved staffs are usually the winners on the field!! This family should fit just fine. Uncle Fester has been the most obvious non-community guy that I've seen in decades. It felt like he did absolutely nothing.

I liked him. I was impressed.
I like that he mentioned the importance of keeping our defense a TMTDM defense.
I also liked that he seems to want to retain as much of our current staff as possible. He see's the quality coaches that are already on staff, and isn't trying to clean house to bring "his guys" in.
LET'S GO COACH PARKER!!

Heck, even ESPN said this about Gerad Parker:
"Parker has a similar background and personality traits to the last two coaches to have success at Troy -- Neal Brown and Jon Sumrall. Parker played at Kentucky with both of them and worked with Brown for two years as an assistant at West Virginia."
"He is considered to be a high-energy coach who brings a wide swath of experience. Per sources, Troy officials were attracted to his background both as an offensive coordinator and a recruiting coordinator. He's the second football hire at Troy for athletic director Brent Jones, who brought in Sumrall. "

Why are you all disappointed? Why do you not like the hire?
Have you seen how good Notre Dame's offense was this year? It was one of their best offenses in Notre Dame history.
The complaint from Notre Dame fans is that the offense was "up-and-down". It was up-and-down because they went on stretch playing three of the better defenses in the country in Ohio State, Louisville, and Duke...
Also, have you seen how Gerad Parker talks? He's cut from the same mold as Jon Sumrall. I would have to think that's one reason Brent Jones liked him.
Some of you need to research the guy better, instead of being so easily influenced about Parker because of Notre Dame's over-inflated message board fans and their thoughts on Twitter.

We need to buy in. This is NOT a bad hire at all. If the fans buy in, the players buy in, the recruits buy in, and then their parents buy in. That's only going to help Troy sustain success. Gerad Parker is another LEADER. Very similar to Jon Sumrall and Neal Brown. He's definitely not another (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of)/bald menace. Just look up his interviews on YouTube. He's a smart guy that knows his stuff and is a definite leader and motivator. And he is apparently a phenomenal recruiter. DON'T LISTEN TO NOTRE DAME FANS. THEY DIDN'T LIKE HIS OFFENSIVE STYLE, despite the incredible success they had offensively this year. Trust that Brent Jones knew what he was doing! He's got a proven track record that we can't deny.

Guys... calm down. This isn't a bad hire. You just think it is because Notre Dame fans have unrealistic expectations of their program. FACTS: This guy is bringing a very similar offensive style, that's actually more efficient and more explosive than what we have had. I posted this on the Sun Belt board, so here you go. It's not bad at all:

Don't be fooled by this idea that's been floating around out there... that Duke will be without a handful of key players who entered the portal.
I fully expect most of Duke's starting portal players, except for maybe QB Riley Leonard and DE R.J. Oben, to play in the bowl game.
From what I've seen and heard, Duke seems to be fully locked in and are prepared for this game.

Lesley's personality just doesn't wow me.
I've heard from people that have known him he's not the nicest guy either.
I don't know him, so I don't know if that's true... but I do know we can't have a guy that recruits, parents, or fans are going to dislike, if that's the case with Lesley.

I want Coach Gas.
He's a motivator and leader, and knows his stuff defensively. I like the defensive style he brings that fashioned the same way Army and Appalachian State have played defense over the years... and they've had some pretty great defenses for a long time.

Not a fan of Lesley becoming HC. Brent Jones needs to go for Greg Gasparato before Jordan Lesley. I couldn't care less if Lesley is a Troy guy that might stick around. I'd rather have another coach that can get us two straight SBC titles again, even if he leaves after two years. How do you know he isn’t one that can? I don't. Call it a gut feeling..

Louisiana is so terrible. Their tackling ability is about the worst I've seen.
No wonder they're 6-7.

Zac Etheridge Is a name to keep an eye on Yes. Keep an eye on your ESPN app and pray we don't hire him. I'd hope Brent Jones would know better than to give the reigns over to him.
There are better options out there.
Not saying Etheridge won't be a great HC somewhere one day... but he's not what Troy needs. NOT what Troy needs...

Zac Etheridge Is a name to keep an eye on That name keeps coming up. Heard they chatted. Hellva a lot easier to make it into P5 coaching after winning as a head coach then a position coach… Why Zac Etheridge??? Of all the coaches that have applied, and of all the guys we currently have on staff.... we're going for an Auburn position coach? The personality is not even remotely close to Sumrall. Not the same kind of motivator. Etheridge is a great guy, hometown guy... but I don't think he'd be what you want for HC to keep moving Troy in the same direction.

What about any more Trojan one sightings outbound or inbound? I hate that we are going through this but that is the best part of the search is having someone at the airport www.flightaware.com/live/airport/KTOIThis is where the magic would happen. If it helps... the Troy University aircraft that Jon Sumrall flew in on when he was officially named as Troy's head coach had a registration number of N721RD.

Great question Hereâs something to ponder that I havenât until now. How much of Joe Craddock the OC was controlled by a defensive minded HC? Iâm sure Jon had input on big plays and downs. I do know Jon wanted a play caller that had experience when he hired Joe. The Troy offense averaged 9 points more this season that (The HC we don’t speak of) did on his final season. As bad a head coach as he was, he is a good OC. Honestly Iâm not concerned with a head coaches X and Oâs as much as I am in his ability to motivate, communicate, delegate and lead. Itâs a CEO position. 100%. Fester didn't motivate, communicate well, or lead well. Huge reason for his failings. Honestly, Gasparato *seems* like that kind of guy... but I'm not doing interviews, so I don't know.

I forgot about Bear Woods. He would probably bring some good energy as a DC. I mentioned in another thread I wonder if Pogue would be interested in returning for a 3rd time to be DC as well. We can't just bring in guys to be FBS head coaches or coordinators, straight out of high school.
That's what UAB did, brought in a bunch of high school coaches. Looks at how that's working for them.
Anyone remember Todd Dodge at UNT?
Bear Woods as a LB coach, sure. Bear Woods as a DC, probably not a great idea.

I'm starting to like the idea of Greg Gasparato as the head coach. He seems to have a similar fire that Sumrall had, and I think the team would respond well to it.

I mean aren’t we in a similar situation. Won’t GG most likely join JS at Tulane? I'd say so... unless he becomes the head coach. And I'm sure that's being mulled over right now.

Let's go get dj uiagalelei out of the portal to throw the ball to him. We've got Goose Crowder waiting in the wings... and he looks very bit capable of taking over and being the next great QB at Troy.
