I hope the AD can once again come up with some creative ways to get the fraternities/sororities back out to support the MBB and WBB teams.
We're hitting a stretch where the team can really use some big-time fan support. They deserve it.
I believe it'd be beneficial during halftime as well for the PA announcer and/or video board to talk about the season results so far for each team, with some short highlight clips of certain games... such as highlights of women beating Mississippi State... and then telling students to come back out for the next home game to make Trojan Arena LOUD.... because there's no telling how much of the student body is even aware the men's and women's teams are currently 12-5 and playing entertaining basketball.

Now that the students are back on campus, I would hope the attendance would improve. While it's important to get the students to the game and involved, it's just as important to get the residents of Troy and the greater Wiregrass area to attend the games. I understand that not everyone can attend every game, I won't be able to make this week's Thursday night game, but given that the games are over by 8 PM, there is no reason we can't put more than 500-600 people in the arena for quality basketball. If we can get 2500-3000 people to actually be "butts in the seats" that arena would be as difficult a place to play for our opponents as there is in all of college basketball. I've been there when there was just under 2500 and you couldn't hear your self think. There are 2 opportunities this week, Thursday night and Saturday's afternoon DH. If you live any where near and are a TROJAN, make every effort to get to at least one of these games. Our men and women need us for the remainder of the season if they are to accomplish great things.

One of the biggest keys is to somehow get youth to attend games. That's an impactful time.
I became a Troy fan as a teenager in high school after I was given a free ticket to the 2004 Troy/Missouri. Before that game, I had never seen a Troy game in my entire life, despite living in Troy.
I didn't even like basketball until, still as a teenager, I was given a free ticket to the 2005 Troy/WKU basketball game. There was a big deal made about that game because WKU was such a big name in basketball, and they were coming to Troy... Sartain Hall was packed that day, and Troy whooped WKU. It was a big deal.
All of those moments are what made me a Troy fan for life. If the athletic department could find some way to get youth to attend and experience the big games, that will go a LONG way in creating new fans who may not have any affiliation with the university.

When I was at Troy in the stone ages (1980's) they use to do quirky stuff at the games (paper airplane contest from the stands etc). It was kinda of silly but it was fun and worked. Does Troy still do anything like that to get the students engaged?

I think it will continue to be a challenge for the week night games and the 6 pm time. Small town of only about 19k to begin with....then the 6 pm start....if you have children and you chauffer them to and from activities and then try to find time to grab a bite to eat after work it can certainly be a challenge to get there in time. That said....everyone loves a winner and as the hype builds so will the crowds. It's a great arena and not a bad seat in the house so come out and cheer loudly for these 2 outstanding teams....see you there and Go Trojans!

For what it’s worth, I recently looked at rooms for game dates this fall. Hotels that are normally $89 per night are $238 per night, and others have a two night minimum - this doesn’t help the cause.

I'll throw out an idea to get the frats and sororities to the games.... Announce that if season attendance averages X, that you will allow them to throw a sock hop in the arena. I know the floor is mega expensive for shoes, but I'm thinking socks should be ok.

Totally agree. We use to stay at the Microtel in Ozark because of that but it has turned into a dump. Last Troy game we stayed in Dothan which was not what we wanted to do

Hotels in Dothan don’t raise room prices X 3 for game days and it’s only an hour drive. I get it’s not the best option, but unless $$$ is no object, compromises must be made.

I'm sure Jack has had some catered events in the arena with a bar.... if not, he missed lots of opportunities. Frats and sororities take precautions when alcohol is involved... they have to take busses to events with alcohol so nobody drives.

And your eliminating every 18,19,20 year old college kids. Which is the majority

if you want fraternities and sororities - go to their Sunday or Monday meeting and ask or tell them how crucial they are to impacting games
but let's remember fraternity and sorority members are also on the SGA, the band, honor societies, etc. The point is let's ask all the organizations tok because not everyone is in a Greek organization.
Free tickets for all first responders and Healthcare workers
Saturday games - free tickets to all public school students - yes free
just opinion

Free tickets for local school students, and parents would have to buy their own tickets to the game. And many parents like to take advantage of free things they already have.
It will grow the Troy fan base exponentially for young students to experience games at Troy. For many it could be their first ever college football game they've been to.
I just don't know if the athletic department can afford that, or how they would decide to dole them out. It's obviously easier said than done.

Constantly giving away tickets is a quick way to devalue your product. It works in certain cases, but it can’t become the normal way.

Troy Athletics currently hosting area HS Basketball Teams, bands and showcasing area dance troupes at halftime. Games, promotions, and targeted marketing in place for two seasons. Come and enjoy the show!
