In all of the reading I have done in the past several weeks, it seems that one of the items of discussion that was delaying Marshall's response to the Sun Belt was what would happen with their MEN's Soccer Team?IF JMU and ODU come to the Sun Belt WITH Marshall that adds THREE Men's Soccer Programs to Sun Belt's existing THREE Men's Soccer Programs; Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and Georgia State. Is not SIX the magic number with the NCAA to have a conference champion? What is amazing is that those three additions to the conference ONLY have a total of twelve players from the states that make up the current Sun Belt footprint! That could be a sport for future growth for the Sun Belt, said the man from one of the soccer hotbeds of Alabama SO if THE CONFERENCE added a men's sport, could we add a women's sport (without much monetary investment other than travel monies)? There are four sports that have a presence already in the Sun Belt that at least one of the potential newcomers also play: 1) Beach Volleyball (WHO KNEW, I didn't) already played by three SBC teams plus USM, 2) Swimming & Diving at Georgia Southern and the three northern schools (I guess you have to be able to do something inside when it is cold), 3) Field Hockey played at App State, James Madison, and Old Dominion I wonder how easy it would be for those athletes to transition to soccer (feet instead of sticks) to keep them enrolled in school?, 4) Lacrosse only played at Coastal and James Madison is a surprise to me since it has been gaining momentum in Alabama and I assumed the southeast.

Never understood why we don't field a men's soccer team. Drop tennis and add men's soccer. Most of our tennis team is foreigners to begin with and zero fan interest

Sun Belt actually had men's soccer up until last year. But the teams were all random: Central Arkansas, Howard, I believe New Jersey Institute of Technology was in it at some point. And then coastal, app, GA St and Ga So.

I am not a fan of men's tennis in general but if I were I would be pretty much like all the other sports I enjoy. I would cheer for my team or an individual even if they happen to not be citizens of the US. I have enjoyed baseball for years and have cheered for several that have hispanic sir names and I really never knew if they were foreign or American till I heard them speak. Even then I was not too sure. Never the less I really enjoy good athletic prowess and effort in any sport. Yes even if they happen to be "fereigners"

Soccer is the #1 played sport now in the USA. I would rather see us have a men's soccer program than M-W tennis. 10 roster spots on the Men's team with only two Americans (both from S. FL) and zero Americans on the women's team. Zero fan interest at Troy. Men's soccer would at least put some buts in the stands. I remember when Hamilton took over the soccer program and they won we drew 1,500 to a women's soccer game. We don't draw 15 to a tennis match

You can't really drop men's tennis for soccer, need to a sport with similar scholarship numbers to stay in compliance with Title IX.

Either one would be better and draw some kind of crowd lol. Add women's beach volleyball and that will draw a crowd for sure...especially the frats

I like Troy tennis, and they get more support than you think, especially for big matches.
We have WAY more history and success in both men's and women's tennis than we do in soccer.
Men's tennis has 3 NCAA Tournament appearances... 5 conference titles... has been nationally ranked on multiple occasions... heck, last year they went 20-4. Even back in 1993, Troy made it to the NCAA Championships and finished ranked #8 in the nation.
Women's soccer hasn't done much of... anything... in its entire history.
Keep the tennis.

In case you haven't noticed it's an international market for student athletes. Welcome to the new millenium. Troy U has recently become very well known in Kenya due to Felma's success with women's basketball. Her participation here may attract other "World Class" athletes. Who knows?? Often times I feel that you do not see the Forest for the trees. Glad you're not running the show in Troy.

I would just rather see us field a sport where we don't have to fly across oceans to get players. I get this a lot when asking why we don't recruit S. FL in football. #1 answer is "if we recruit local more people (family/friends) attend the games. If we fielded a men's soccer program and got some players from FL/AL/GA would family and friends attend games? Yes. Don't think a women's tennis player from Spain is going to have family and friends flying here every match unless they are millionaires. I would rather see kid's here get athletic scholarships but that is just my humble opinion

Mens soccer is almost as much of a rarity in the vast majority of states in this area as anything else. This would still be the same situation we have with women’s soccer but on a greater scale.

Not sure what the support is now. I know when Hamilton took over he cut out the international recruiting and recruited heavily in FL and the US (but he came from UF). I can't speak for AL but soccer is really big Cent FL South here. Got several friends who's kids went D1 in soccer (men's and women's). The international players didn't produce wins before Hamilton and they aren't now. I have to believe we can get girl soccer players here. I mean our US women's national team is the best in the world. Just a thought

We took a D2 coach who was the HC of the 4th to 5th best team in the Florida Sunshine Conference

I don’t care where they come from. Winning games produces more butts in seats and exposure than Jimbob and JoDoug from Andalusia coming to see their niece Susie get blown out in a 3-12 season.

Our record was better with Jessica from S. FL than Jade from S. London. Women's soccer is better in the US than overseas. Don't believe me look at our US Women's team. If they are bound and determined to go over seas then get better players than 4-10
