Who would be your dream hire when LB leaves? Be serious and realistic.
Mine would be Jeremy Pruitt. He's is a defensive mastermind. Currently the DC at UGA.... Was the DC at FSU last year when they won a national championship and was at Bama before that and won a NC there too.
This guy is a big up and coming guy. Would be a star power hire much like Gus Malzahn was at StAte. He could be a 1 or 2 season coach but he would get this program going in the right direction and quick, Ark State isn't suffering in the HC turnover.
Problem is he is paid 850k at UGA. So either he will want to come back to his roots in alabama and get HC experience or Troy will have to pay a minimum 850-1million to snatch him.
Fyi... His wife is a Troy graduate...

Rhett Lashlee the OC at Auburn would be a great hire, He would bring a dynamic offense that would give us a chance to win in his first year

Steve Campbell. Starting center on 87 Troy Nat championship team. Two national championships as coach. Never had a losing season. Current HC at Central Arkansas (lost to a Texas Tech by 7). Troy guy and proven HC and winner

It's your opinion. But I don't think that guy is ready for D1 football HC job.
I would be disappointed

She was an assistant for three years at the 8th best team in the SEC. He he took a FCS team and lost to a Texas Tech by 7. A winner wins. Doesn't matter if it's DII or FCS. The playing field is level at any level. You hire a assistant you don't know how he will run a team, hire assistants, recruit, manage a game etc, it's a gamble. Brian Kelly went from DII to d1 quite nicely. Sure some said he wasn't ready either.

Also Mississippi state has been a pretty good softball program under her.

Wasn't aware she was the HC at MSU?
I'm sure we will hire a SEC asst when the time comes. If he's any good we will keep him 2 seasons and we will be holding this discussion again. Such is the life of a mid major.

Missing the point. I hear this" needs to pay their dues stuff" To me a coach who has coached for 20 years and won and won big everywhere he has been, can coach at any level. Brian Kelly, (The HC we don’t speak of) Kelly came from New Hampshire. Some guys can coach. Like I stated, some coaches are great assistants but fail as HC, some make great HC. For every Malzahn there is a Charlie Weiss and Robert Maddox. It's a gamble that can pay off big or be a disaster

Since when is being a "Troy guy" one of the qualifications to be the next Troy HC? I don't care if the next cat has never played a down of football in his life, if he gets W's then he is good with The Dream. You can't build a house on a rocky foundation, so the next HC will have to be able to sell Troy to potential recruits.
Hartwell has hired way more coaches than The Dream ever has, so he has to be trusted. But if the next coach can "Sell" Troy, then he doesn't need to be hired.

Ball State Head Coach Pete Lembo would be one that I would look at. He just signed a new contract but I would still give it a shoot. Great coach with a great record

I hope that Hartwell is truly an AD worth his salt and has a list of candidates and how to reach them at the ready. Said candidates should be legitimate for this particular job and not along the lines of "Chucky" Gruden or Bill Cowher because everyone just knows they want back in the game. So anyway, Lashlee would be a good get for the job. Young, dynamic, the $ could be worked out I'm sure. Lock him up contractually as much as they can and hope to get 5 out of him, more than 5 years could be a bonus.

TROY has a softball team? On the coaching side, I think Mark Fleetwood is available.

Rhett Lashlee... by far. His offense and recruiting ability would keep immediately bring Troy back to the top of the Sun Belt, even if our defense still sucked.

Speaking of recruiting, I saw a terrible job of it on Saturday. Already bad service, then you throw in the fact people actually wanting to play in our terrible program couldn't even be catered to. Not seeing how well that works to keep high school students interested. Lord knows someone will throw a fit if we get another JUCO.

Me and my buddy were discussing this after the game. Give us both a quarter of what Larry makes and we'll show improvement.
