Carlton Martial deserves his own thread. Let's all congratulate Carlton Martial for setting the NCAA record for most tackles during a career. If you read this thread Mr. Martial, I would like you to know I have enjoyed watching you play and I have never seen anyone play the game with more determination, conviction, or pure love for the game. I wish you great success in the future!
Cry Martial!

In the coming days, kids all over the SE will be named Carlton, or Martial, or, since we're in the south, Carton Martial.
Congratulations young man, it's been an honor to follow your career.

What an honor to watch Carlton play! He’s a fantastic example of what it means to be all TROJAN! Even though I couldn’t attend the game I was able to make it home just in time to watch the game on TV. And seeing him make that tackle was awe inspiring. A testament to beating the odds not by luck but by shear will and tenacity and talent and a hand in the face of all who doubted him.
Congrats Carlton! TROY Legend!

I’m glad someone started this thread. Before the season started, I told y’all I was honored to have Carlton (and others) attach their name to my business because of who they are off the field. To see Carlton break this record last night was great for the world to see how awesome he is on the field. Many NFL geniuses are gonna look over him based solely on his height, but there will be one or two willing to give him a shot and when that happens. They have certainly hit the jackpot. Carlton’s days of playing football are nowhere near being over. Once again congrats to our GOAT Mr Carlton Martial.

Instinct transfers to any level of football, and that’s something Carlton has a LOT of!

Nothing like believing in yourself when you are the underdog or passed over
He made some folks eat crow - and proved he deserved to be on the field 546 times
Congratulations Carlton!

Congratulations! Carlton Martial is an old school football player. Playing Army only shows that he can play and dominate players bigger than him.
The Army film should get him a shot at the NFL.

Does anyone have the congratulations video from DeMarcus Ware? It may be private, but if not, I'd like to see it.

I remember when he was a walk on Frosh. Thinking he was getting a good deal of playing time and then shows up as a Freshman All-American on a few services including USA. Just thought at the time that he sure does seem to be able to wiggle in places for not being very big. Thank you, Carlton! Thanks for choosing Troy to be the place you chose to show EVERYONE including me what you could do.

Now he needs 17 more to become Troy’s all-time leading tackler

Now he needs 17 more to become Troy’s all-time leading tackler I too have the media guide. Nothing takes anything away from Carlton Martial’s mountainous achievement. That being said, during our D2 years, Gerrick Pimenta had 563 tackles during 1985-88. Both great players.

I was just stating that it’s crazy he’s the all-time FBS tackle leader but not his own schools (for now). Just shows how good Garrick was.

So, prior to 2004 schools could (and did) go back and change defensive stats based on game film, meaning that players would have almost twice as many tackles on Monday than they did on Saturday. Prior to my arrival here, the previous SID office was still doing this despite the rule change so you'll notice that some defensive stats in the media guide changed at some point where players after 2004 lost tackles as we reverted back to official NCAA numbers.
All that to say, it's not fair to compare defensive numbers (tackles) now to those compiled before 2004.
