The educational world and other respectable institutions tell us that people CAN rise to the level of expectation that is set. High standards, positive reinforcement, and the crafting of a "can-do" attitude isn't a magic incantation that replaces gifted skill, hard work, and determination. It IS however a valuable part of the recipe to make productive individuals.
Now, if that is a general reality, I think that we can all acknowledge how this gets magnified in sport, where confidence and the space between the ears plays a hugely critical role on personal drive, team momentum, and successful outcomes. So why do we as fans think that heaping up negativity on the coaching staff and players is in any way a good thing? Sure, there may come a time to start to question and withdraw votes of confidence. However, it seems (The HC we don’t speak of) came in the door with many dedicated Troy fans rooting against him or at least holding their support while waiting to see. Wow. How nice to walk in the door with the deck stacked against you.
And this is a team still in first-year transition! We're THREE games in with a 2-1 record and some very promising looks in several areas! As I type, we're tied 31/31 against a good Ark St team after battling back from early disappointment.
There ARE deficiencies in areas and those were to be expected but berating and griping is ZERO help. Why on earth do you fans who just constantly take pot-shots at "the team you love" not realize that it accomplishes nothing at all but to sow a crop of negative, self-defeating attitudes among yourself and others. Motivation by beratement is NOT successful.
You want to be a fan? You want to help? How about keeping your thoughts to yourself and choose to cheer for the positives and give them at least a half chance to work on the positives?
Finally, we've just sacked the QB twice and have taken the lead. I'm gonna cheer the team on. Things are actually pretty good.

1st Amendment of the US constitution.
(The HC we don’t speak of) makes enough money, he can handle the heat. That's part of job.

Let's stay positive. We've got two wins against two extremely crappy teams, so there's that.

I understand what you're trying to say but the reality isn't that if you pay enough money you can overcome the reality that I've outlined. And even if it did, you think the players don't catch the negative vibes thrown at the well-paid coaches?

Iâm a very positive fan. I support Troy Athletics 100%. Having said that, this is a transition year only in the fact of Neal Brown to (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). This team in 1000% better than the team Neal inherited. Now Iâm not here to call out (The HC we don’t speak of) as we all know there will be growing pains with a first time head coach. We dealt with those with Neal. Maybe my memory is foggy and I donât remember just how bad it was at times during Nealâs first year. I do know were a much better team in late November than we were in September. Different circumstances for sure. I will be at the next game, Lord willing, I hope to see improvements, but I have my concerns. All in all it is still a great day to be a Trojan!

97 points given up in the last two games at home. I don’t even want to see the yards allowed. Think positive...we looked good against a mediocre FCS team and the worst team in the MAC. The negative is next week might be the first time that a team hits 1,000 yards of offense in a game and it won't be us

Fact - this season the football program is not performing to the level we are accustomed to. So.. we can sit back and take it and stay awful at football. Then you will see The Vet look like that picture Hemi took at Akron. OR... we can throw some heat at the coaches and not buy season tickets and shirts and whatever else the bookstore is peddling and hope someone gets a clue and decides whether football is important for Troy University. I think it is. Bolstering the enrollment with exchange students wont cut it alone.

Some positives and negatives in the Ole Positive Negative sandwich...
Positives: We have some talent, it’s always great to be a TROJAN.
Negatives: We’re beat the heck up... we have as many people that are important to winning that are not dressed as those that are (lil exaggerated, but goodness). Our secondary’s youth shows on the 50/50 ball (we’re winning like 10/90). The lack of pressure is exposing them. We’ve given up (maybe I’m off a little) - 526 and 510 yards in two home games - along with the 45+ in two home games. Some of the coaching, play calling, and management were questionable tonight - but I don’t get paid to make those decisions. We’d made 5-6 3rd down stops in a row—- then the fake punt. Then our 3rd & 4th down D seemed to break down. It was tough to watch all three phases honestly.
Positives: I have no dog in the fight as to whom the coach is. They get my support. Because good for them is good for the kids & good for the program & ultimately the fans. So, glad to be a TROY TROJAN. It’s a great day - everyday - to know that that’s who I am; and that I share that with most of you (and I love our adopted TROJANS also!!!). It’s a great day - everyday - to have the opportunity to be able to afford to see my team and uplift them. It’s a great day -every day - to be part of University that supports our men and women in the Armed Forces in the manner done tonight. And my final positive on the field - the kids NEVER - EVER gave up. Two games in a row at home had bad outcomes, but the effort is there. They’ve bought in - we can build from that. Go TROJANS

We've all been here before and I found the best way to deal with these situations is every game day grab an alcoholic beverage of your choice and starting drinking as to numb the impending pain and disappointment. It's going to be a long, bumpy season but look on the bright side... basketball is around the corner and we can't be much worse at that sport.

Hope corrections are made while the heart is there. I love CLB (was there in the Maddox transition), but Neal inherited a team that had forgotten how to win. This team knows how to win. Hopefully, we can ride that until adjustments are made.

Finally, we've just sacked the QB twice and have taken the lead. I'm gonna cheer the team on. Things are actually pretty good. 1) It's the Coach's jobs to set high levels of expectations. Fans are passionate, it works both ways. 2) You're dead right. Many Troy fans had a negative bias about the selection of (The HC we don’t speak of). From his time here at Troy and his many High School venues around the state. He's well known and folks have opinions based on history. He has to prove himself here. No honeymoon, CNB spoiled us. Expectations are high, see #1 above. 3) It's a coaching staff transition, maybe not enough Div I experience. Those hires "buck" stops at the top. Troy did not start football this year. Expectations are high, see #1. 4) Message boards are not established to provide expectations either way, message boards largely are for fans to vent; positive or negative feeelings, support, observations etc. I'd hope the personal trash would be restricted to restricted access areas but it's not always confined to that. It's free speech otherwise. Speak at the risk of being supported, chastised, ridiculed, censored, etc. 5) cornhole cheers for the positives publicly, but to ignore history, reality and facts is, well, for ostriches. 6) I disagree, some things are good, some things need work and other things just appear to be a dumpster fire. Time will tell. 7) Fans are passionate, it can work both ways. Tell me your recipe, I need some of that Kool-ade!! NOW!

That huge dollar investment is ALL THE MORE REASON to give support and a fighting chance!!! Can you not see how assinign that thinking is??? And I couldn't disagree more that taking trash (about the team we cheer for and "support") is a part of it!! That's something that YOU have accepted. Not me! It's anti productive to the desired outcome. Why would I talk trash about my own coach who is still instilling his program?? Is there a gas leak where you are?? We do agree that this year's standards are not what we're used to. You think NE isn't used to standards? They had a rough first year with their coaching change. I could list other schools but you get my point; even the most established programs who go through changes have temporary declines. THAT is typical. I DON'T LIKE TO LOSE!! However, that was a very exciting game! You are all acting like we lost that game 50 to 0!! The fact is that we came SO CLOSE to winning! Two separate drives had TD passes that should have been caught. I saw as many offensive mistakes as defensive and could have easily made all the difference to get us a W. But we are by no means inept!! I don't think we are in danger of running people off yet. The games aren't boring and we aren't getting blown out. Far too soon to be so paranoid.

Maybe it’s best said shortly and concisely - They’re are bright spots; there are a lot of thing that need improvement; and I’m holding out hope that our team stays bought in long enough to let those improvements take hold. And [this is aimed at NO ONE in general and not your response]... it would be much more enjoyable to read a board where we could disagree without being disagreeable. I’ve literally met one person (at least that I know of - introduced myself to Hemi since we sit within eyesight of each other) on the board. So as far as I’m concerned, y’all are all good folks with good insights. I’d like to learn from y’all. Sometimes it’s hard to get to the point (and I guess it was hard to get to mind above - Lolololol) when it’s written disagreeably.

You're wasting your breath, man. Decisions have been reached, minds made up. If we were to win out, and next year go 14-0 with a NY 6 Bowl and a final top 15 ranking, there would be either no comments by some or there would be complaints about the plays we ran to get there. Then, the first time we had a game in which we either score late or stopped our opponent late to win, there would once again be the contention that CCL and his staff are not who we need. For some the desire to be right is greater than the desire to be objective. That's my rant. now comes my analysis. To this point, the defense hasn't been good. Last night, the offense, though explosive and though they scored enough that victory shouldn't have been in question, failed to execute in some key situations. They failed to complete several drives, dropping some critical passes, some of which would have almost certainly resulted in TDs. I question the decision (not sure who made it) to run the final play on third down rather than spike the ball and get things set up. I questioned us not getting that last time out back after the stAte player went down. With that, I'll repeat something I said in an earlier thread. I doubt anyone on here was the best widget maker their widget making profession had ever seen 6 months into their tenure.
