Unlikely he's a grad transfer, so he'd have to sit out a year.

We really needed more depth at RB! Hopefully he won’t have to sit out a year.

Unlikely he's a grad transfer, so he'd have to sit out a year. Agreed. Just wonder if there's any "hardship" type appeal he's made? Looked at that Transfer Portal ... that is a pretty significant deal.

Strong committed to the Aggies on signing day, choosing them over Ole Miss. A&M running backs coach Jay Graham and A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher probably had something to do with the decision as Strong had committed to Florida State in 2016 when both were in the same capacity with the Seminoles. He originally was recruited by Alabama and Miami (among others) and decommitted from the Seminoles shortly Fisher announced that he was leaving for A&M. Strong rushed for 1,388 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior year at Union County High School and he compiled nearly 2,700 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns during his last two years of high school. On the surface, the 6 foot 1, 220 pound Strong is the type of player who has the size to carry the ball 20 plus times in a game and be his own blocker. He has a big frame and already has good mass for a high school player to go with it. Due to this factor as well as the fact that he’s relatively well coordinated for his size, he’s the type of guy that tends to require more than one person to bring him down and breaks arm tackles. Strong has excellent vision and is a patient runner which serves him well as has got quick feet and loose hips. Unlike a lot of big people, he is fluid and can present an angle to the first potential tackler or even avoid them. This provides him with the upper hand in any initial confrontation given his size. In addition, he’s a really good receiver. He’s not going to plant and separate from defenders in terms of catching the ball but his size will impede people from reaching in and attempting to interfere with the catch. More importantly, he has really good hand/eye coordination and looks the ball into his hands as if he were a wideout Like a lot of young runners with size who mature somewhat early, Strong has a tendency to run tall and allow people to slough off of him when attempting to bring him down. This is because he is not used to having to lower his shoulder, break down, and take people on who are similar in size to him. In addition, Strong doesn’t have great get off or top end speed. 247sports.com/college/texas-am/Article/Texas-AM-RB-Charles-Strong-scouting-report-118914613/

I know we've had a few 4 star defensive signees, but is this the first 4 star offensive guy we've landed?

He's big, good size and he needs to add some speed for the college level. Understand he is really good catching the ball out of the backfield and it sounds like he could be a back like Woolfolk who can finish the game.

If 40 is really 4.88 he really does not have a great deal of speed but for 3-9 yards I will take it on that frame

Sometimes handing the ball to a Mack truck is as good, or better than, handing it to a Porsche. Earl Campbell had adequate speed, but by the end of the game, it didn't matter. The defense was so beat up, they couldn't stop him. Hershel Walker was a Mack truck with Porsche performance, but he was a once in a generation, if not once in a lifetime, talent. He was a freak of nature. If Strong can pound opposing defenses into submission, 4.88 will be fast enough in the 4th quarter.

His clocked high school time is moot. He's had time to work on his quickness, which is more important than straight line speed. There has to be a reason he was offered by Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss etc... The dude had in home visits from most of those schools. Auburn and Ole Miss pursued him heavily until he signed with TAMU on signing day.
It's also important to all three types of backs ready to play. They keep the defense honest. One minute you're talking a speed back, the next minute it's Jordan Chunn. If you're not mentally prepared for that, you might get drug 5 to 10 yards by a dude that's 240 lbs. Honestly, he'd be really good late in the game when everyone is tired. He's fast enough and strong enough to break a lot of tackles.

That is what I was thinking for all those schools to offer he has something they loved. In addition there is a thing called game speed. Remember this that 4.88 in high school which I imagine is faster now is 0.52 faster than Corey Robinson. Dude was SLOW! He could throw and thus having Hemi beat him in a forty did not keep him from being an effective player

I think Charles will be a great addition! He's what we were lacking last year. We had fast backs, but lacked a bulldozer like MegaChunn.
