Strong committed to the Aggies on signing day, choosing them over Ole Miss. A&M running backs coach Jay Graham and A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher probably had something to do with the decision as Strong had committed to Florida State in 2016 when both were in the same capacity with the Seminoles. He originally was recruited by Alabama and Miami (among others) and decommitted from the Seminoles shortly Fisher announced that he was leaving for A&M. Strong rushed for 1,388 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior year at Union County High School and he compiled nearly 2,700 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns during his last two years of high school.
On the surface, the 6 foot 1, 220 pound Strong is the type of player who has the size to carry the ball 20 plus times in a game and be his own blocker. He has a big frame and already has good mass for a high school player to go with it. Due to this factor as well as the fact that he’s relatively well coordinated for his size, he’s the type of guy that tends to require more than one person to bring him down and breaks arm tackles. Strong has excellent vision and is a patient runner which serves him well as has got quick feet and loose hips. Unlike a lot of big people, he is fluid and can present an angle to the first potential tackler or even avoid them. This provides him with the upper hand in any initial confrontation given his size.
In addition, he’s a really good receiver. He’s not going to plant and separate from defenders in terms of catching the ball but his size will impede people from reaching in and attempting to interfere with the catch. More importantly, he has really good hand/eye coordination and looks the ball into his hands as if he were a wideout
Like a lot of young runners with size who mature somewhat early, Strong has a tendency to run tall and allow people to slough off of him when attempting to bring him down. This is because he is not used to having to lower his shoulder, break down, and take people on who are similar in size to him. In addition, Strong doesn’t have great get off or top end speed.
