His clocked high school time is moot. He's had time to work on his quickness, which is more important than straight line speed. There has to be a reason he was offered by Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Auburn, Ole Miss etc... The dude had in home visits from most of those schools. Auburn and Ole Miss pursued him heavily until he signed with TAMU on signing day. It's also important to all three types of backs ready to play. They keep the defense honest. One minute you're talking a speed back, the next minute it's Jordan Chunn. If you're not mentally prepared for that, you might get drug 5 to 10 yards by a dude that's 240 lbs. Honestly, he'd be really good late in the game when everyone is tired. He's fast enough and strong enough to break a lot of tackles. That is what I was thinking for all those schools to offer he has something they loved. In addition there is a thing called game speed. Remember this that 4.88 in high school which I imagine is faster now is 0.52 faster than Corey Robinson. Dude was SLOW! He could throw and thus having Hemi beat him in a forty did not keep him from being an effective player I have sneaky fast speed..

Several FSU fans are upset that he isn't transferring to the seminoles. They seemed to have really liked him during his recruiting process. Also of note, it looks like he has weighed in, and is no longer listed 229, but at 215. May be angling for more speed.

I know we've had a few 4 star defensive signees, but is this the first 4 star offensive guy we've landed? We had a five star by the name of Josh Jarboe WR Brett Moncrief was a 4-star recruit by Scout.com in 2010. Originally signed with Oklahoma State
OL Tyler Graves was a 4-star recruit by Scout.com in 2009. He originally signed with Florida State.
WR Josh Jarboe was a 4-star on Scout and Rivals. Originally signed wih Oklahoma
WR Traveon Samuel was a 4-star on ESPN in 2015. Originally signed with Lousiville.
RB Maurice Greer was a 4-star on Rivals and Scout in 2005. Oringially signed with Colorado.
WR Dominic Walker was a 4-star on ESPN in 2013. Originally signed with Auburn.

It's not that uncommon for NCAA to grant this.
He kinda already sat out a year with the redshirt. They have granted the same things before. Also, it is a move "closer to home," which could increase the potential for granting.

He did redshirt, yes. But he also played in game(s). The new rule allows for this.

I believe we had this once before but the player's name escapes me and he played at the same high school (Union County). He signed with Arkansas and I believe he transfered to be closer to his mom who had health problems (I might be mistaken). I also can't remember the outcome on that but I think the NCAA made him sit (but I think he played as a true freshman)

Sounds like a long shot to me. You always have a "no" in your back pocket...so why not ask? I never said not to ask. Just giving an opinion that it's unlikely a redshirt where he's been involved in multiple games would help him. He is transferring for family reasons, and that will go a lot farther in the way of getting him eligible for 2019.

I talked to my friend who coached him in high school. He said quote " he wanted to be closer to home. Great kid, humble and a hard worker"

Did he do this when committing to A&M? Just hoping it is indeed a nickname and not the start of some malarkey.
