The ladies have put together a very good looking 5-game win streak. They've looked much better these past five games than they've looked all season. Hopefully they can keep it up and put on a good performance Saturday against the current SBC leader Little Rock.
The men seem to be showing more chemistry and Varnado is looking more like Varnado now. They grinded out a tough win against a good looking StAte today. If they can string together some success like last season, then we'll be cooking...

As for the women. If things continue to improve, Rigby should be hands-down SBC coach of the year. To see this group of freshmen and sophomores early in the season and to see them now... what a job this staff has done! Now that Mendoza is out of the picture, they have each figured out their role. K Robinson will finish as one of the best to ever play here and has developed into a great leader. Our starters are 4 freshmen and sophomores with 1 grad transfer Sr. It's all starting to click!
Same goes for the men. A young bunch with Juan Davis Jr and Wes as the only contributing seniors. Last nights team never quit, great game.

If we want good basketball in Troy - fans better start putting a$$es in seats. Our attendance is absolutely pathetic especially considering the facility. Outside of Sodexho concessions - it's a shame. Our fans have not idea how to impact a game.
So Go Troy Trojan Basketball teams! WE Believe that you will win and do it again!

I believe Coach loves her situation, but the fan support for what Troy is doing has to stick in her craw...not a good appraisal come contract time.

Outside of Sodexho concessions - it's a shame. Our fans have not idea how to impact a game. So Go Troy Trojan Basketball teams! WE Believe that you will win and do it again! Yeah... but we need to be realistic and understand that people aren't going to want to come out and watch the men's team when they lose more than they win. Not even students are going to be interested in watching Troy basketball struggle. Yeah, they're on a nice 2-game win streak now, but overall the season has been less than stellar. If this team was having a great season similar to ULL (who's currently 20-4 right now), then attendance would be higher. History proves that. As for the women's team, they do deserve better attendance. They've had three-straight 20-win seasons and two NCAA appearances. Not real sure why attendance hasn't gotten much better over the years. Maybe it's going to take a breakout season where they go 25-4 or something and win an NCAA First Round game. Take Middle Tennessee for example... they had attendance similar to ours until 2004 when they went 24-8, won the Sun Belt, and upset #11 North Carolina in the NCAA tournament in the first round. They're attendance got even better in 2007 when they went 30-4, were ranked in the Top 25, won the Sun Belt, and beat Gonzaga in the NCAA Tourney. Ever since then, MT has been averaging anywhere from 3,500 to 4,000 for women's basketball games...

I believe the key to increasing basketball attendance lies with increasing student involvement/attendance and obtaining the support of the local population. Allow me make my case.
I live in Dothan and have had football tickets since '95. I don't say that to say I'm a super fan, just to establish a reference point on longevity. In those 22 years, there have been some games where, even though I only live 60 miles away, I found it very inconvenient to attend. For example, this year we played SoBama on Wednesday night. My wife and I worked on Wednesday, drove to Troy in time to walk in and watch the game, and we took vacation days on Thursday. Again, that doesn't make us a super fans, it's just a recap of what it takes to make a mid week game. I realize BB games end earlier than FB games, but we would still be close to midnight getting to sleep with a 5AM alarm for work after attending a mid-week basketball game (same for baseball).
That Wednesday night game was only one game. BB has a mid-week home game almost every week of the season. Because of all I've mentioned above, my basketball game attendance is limited to weekends. Again, I only live 60 miles away. Those who live north of Montgomery, west of Luverne, or along the coast have an even more daunting challenge. MTSU was cited as an example of what might need to happen in Troy for attendance to increase. Those who live in SE Nashville or the SE suburbs, live closer to Murfreesboro than I do to Troy. The population of the 'Boro is multiples larger than the population of Troy (I don't know how many multiples, I was too lazy to look it up, but multiples, none the less). The same can be said about the on campus enrollment of MTSU compared to TROY.
Where is the largest CONCENTRATION of TROJANS? On campus and in Troy proper. If half of the on campus students got excited and started attending the games the place would be packed every time there was a tip. My intent in saying this is not to slam the students, but to point out that they hold the key to making TROJAN Arena an exciting place to watch a game. The athletic department has made great strides in student engagement recently and those efforts need to continue. As we've said many times regarding FB support, the locals in Troy must begin to be supportive. Again, progress is being made in this area and local business owners, like JonesOxygen, who are leading by example, are key.
Bottom line, mid-week games make it difficult for all those who are regular FB supporters to be the same for BB. The key lies with the students and the local population.

Women’s team beats UALR 76-70. That was UALR’s first conference loss of the season. That definitely deserves some recognition!

8,000 students on campus. If 50% show up to go with the local folks we’ve got a full house. I don’t understand how the students only show up when they get something in return. Pretty pathetic in my opinion. Support your peeps!

Huge win by the women against Little Rock. This team is so different now compared to the last few months. I'm impressed.

Yeah, you're most likely right. No reason to spread all this fake optimism. (But I'll bust my gut to see the next game or two (SHHH!)

I just wished I lived closed so I could go to every game!

It’s frustrating as a coach and player to hear “you need to dominate every year if you expect my support”! Anybody can call themselves a fan if they jump on the fan wagon during dominating seasons but real fans stay on that wagon in down years. Yes, I realize winning draws fans and financial supporters but Troy students just flat doesn’t support their teams other than football no matter their history. When I played there the joke was we are a suitcase college and you better stay off University Drive at 3:0O on Friday or you will get run over. With the on campus residency there should several hundred students or more at any game. I watched in ESPN3 the other night and it was embarrassing the empty seats. A friend (not Troy grad) asked where the students were!
