Does anyone remember the news story of the Alabama high school QB, Nathan Rourke, from Edgewood Academy that broke Alabama state records for most TD passes (59 TD's) in a season and nearly 4,000 yards? www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/12/why_hasnt_the_quarterback_who.htmlHe had no D1 offers until Ohio offered him over a month before signing day. I was always hoping Neal Brown would offer this kid. Now, as I watch Akron vs. Ohio tonight on ESPN2, the sophomore Rourke is lighting the MAC up. He has lead Ohio to an 8-2 record and has thrown for 1,700 yards, 14 TD's, only 4 INT's, and has ran for 800 yards and 18 TD's. Troy really missed out on this kid.

We can't take everybody. I think Smith and Barker are going to be great!

Yeah, but can he throw the bubble screen? I don't care who you are, that's funny!

Yeah, but can he throw the bubble screen? Apparently not, because he can’t beat Akron.

The receiver play in this game was awful. We've had more than our share of drops this season but I don't think I've ever seen so many passes BOUNCE off of receivers' hands. Stone hands doesn't begin to describe it.

Our QB beats Akron. This guy doesn't.
Some of our fans are infatuated with the other guy.
Makes sense.

It’s ok to give reasons why another team makes mistakes, but Troy players and coaches aren’t allowed to make a mistake?

I don't know most the people on this board, I say that to say I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with AISA football in Alabama. I am a product of AISA football and feel like it's okay for me to talk negatively about it. This dude broke all these records playing against AISA schools on the most loaded / illegal team in AISA. Check their history and see how things are going now with their coach getting in trouble and leaving, taking his talent to Autauga. Anyway, to my knowledge, two players in the history of AISA have ever done anything at the division one level, Reid McMillon at Auburn and OJ Howard at Bama. I'm not a coach, but if I was I probably would have never paid much attention to his numbers. Glad it's worked out for him, but I don't think you can question our recruiting tactics on this kid.
I'm sure it took guts and glory to beat the likes of Coosa Valley, Lakeside School, Evangel Christian, Macon East, Springwood, Northside Methodist and the powerhouse Ashford (now closed)

As far as small school public schools it varies by state. 3A-4A in Alabama or Mississippi is different than Ohio, Texas, FL or California. My HS here plays 4A, it probably would be 6A in AL. A state like Nebraska, Kansas etc has some schools playing 8 man football and yet Nebraska recruits them. Talent is talent but it is hard judging it sometimes with inferior competition

Hmm, the wind died each time the other team had the ball??

You ever think that maybe coaches watched him and talked to him, and for whatever reason decided not to offer him? Maybe he told coaches that he didnt want to come to Troy?
Who knows. We didnt offer, he is playing for a MAC school. Good for him.
I played AISA ball. There is a huge difference in private schools playing in the AHSAA and a private school in the AISA. He played AISA ball against not so great competition. Yeah there are some good ball players in the AISA, I beleive Gaston played at Monroe Academy(AISA). But by and large it is sub par talent.
Why are we arguing about this? We have got some really good QBs in the wings.
