Legassey has a big leg from what I've seen in practice. I think the biggest thing was the missed PATs. That really could have come back to bite them last week. They just need to let him connect on a couple of easy ones, get settled in and comfortable. Look at Alabama's kicking scenario. Every Alabama fan in the state's butthole puckered when a field goal attempt would come to start the season. Then he hit a couple of shorter ones and suddenly started hitting 40+ field goals and hasn't missed one since the first game I think. Alot of it is just being comfortable and getting into a rhythm for these kickers.

I thought we signed that kicker out of Tate High School in Pensacola FL. He was a terrific high school kicker. Where is he at? He has the potential to be very good. However there's a huge difference in high school and Division 1 athletics. I was not aware of that. Is the crossbar higher or uprights narrower at the NCAA level??

Not much pressure on a freshman, to have your first start against LSU..... Now THAT"S different from high school ball!! NO forgiveness in Death Valley!

Is the crossbar higher or uprights narrower at the NCAA level?? High School goalposts are almost 5' wider than college and the NFL, unless they have recently changed.

I know offense played like garbage but this was a main concern of mine going into the season. Our kicking game is nowhere near good enough to bail out the team if needed. Huge missed opportunities last night

Sick of hearing this freshman jitters crap. In 1984 a freshman rushed onto the field with no timeouts and the clock running, hurried to set up, got the snap with one second left, foot hit the ball with no time left and he nailed a 50 harder to win a National Championship. By this freshman theory our current kicker would have fallen down running into the field and then shank the kick.

What concerns me the most with Legassey right now is that almost all of his kicks aren't coming off his foot end-over-end, but are knuckling through the air like a dead duck. Kicks like that result from poor ball striking and bad technique.

Man Bun with the pencil thin stache.....isnt getting it done. A middle school kid can hit a 27 yard field goal, give Underwood another shot, heck give a lineman a chance to toe kick it....there has to be someone, anyone on this team that can kick a field goal.

Looks to be planting too close right now and catching the ball high. Easy fix but the hardest part is gaining confidence. Usually you use the inside 30 kicks as confidence boosters but that’s not the case now.

There should be a statue of that kick inside VMS.

Underwood is a Jr and has kicked 3 pointers in the Boise and Akron games that I know of but probably done more.
Why in GOD's name are we letting the drummer from Hanson kick? I mean d*mn! Call the soccer coach.
Plum embarrassing! And that's just the way he looks!
We were awful across the board last night but going for it on 4th and 11 instead of attempting the points when down is busch league.

CNB didn’t want to go for it but he kinda had no choice. If we got it you’d be that “fan” praising him for the decision

Kicks like that result from poor ball striking and bad technique. You've got that exactly right. More than a couple of bad things going on with his kicking technique.

With our large international student body, not one of these guys coming from overseas (where soccer is the only sport and every kids plays it) can be recruited to walk on and try out ?

Kicking a soccer ball and a football are not the same. If you gave Christiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi a football and told them to kick a 35-yarder they would even have a tough time getting it through the up rights and they're the best soccer players in the world. You don't see the NFL pulling guys away from the MLS to kick a few PATs for them when they're having kicking trouble...
But yes, you do see guys come up from Australia to punt these days, but that's because Australian Rules Football is a game is based around punting with a similar shaped ball so the skills do translate better into the American game.

I know it looks easy and all but it’s far from it. It makes it even harder when you have zero confidence right now.

If you cant make makeable field goals and you have 11 yards left then punt it and try to stick them close. The game/conference title was not on the line like it was in Murfreesboro in 2006 when we went for it on 4th and 19. Member that?

Glad Jan Stenerud and Garo Yepremian didn't subscribe to your theory. We had a high school here who lost their kicker to the local private catholic school that recruits. They asked the soccer team for volunteers. Kid never played a down of football in his life and not only could place kick he could punt also. He kicked in college also
