Regardless of how you feel about this rivalry, this is a pretty sweet trophy. Would've been a good idea for a conference championship trophy though. That is horrible.

All the South fans I know point to Troy as their rival... I am from Mobile and know a lot of them. I'm from Mobile, too. Never heard anything about Troy. I've only heard ULL.

If it puts a few more butts in the seats it's worth it. It's not going to keep people away.
Carry on.

Yep. People are so desperate for a "Rivalry" that they spent money on this trash.
Just curious, if we asked them, who would they say was their rival?
I can't speak for South fans, but I do know a couple of the codgers on this board refuse to declare anyone a rival other than the teacher college we haven't played in 14 years.

I think this is a natural rivalry even if it is in its infancy. I like the match up in all sports. I can get behind the idea of a rivalry with South.

It means they are thinking about and care about Troy football. These are the very people that many on here have complained about their lack of support for Troy athletics. If it takes them creating a rivalry, and a belt to get behind OUR team then so be it. These are future donors and season ticket holders displaying their passion while they are still students. Their enthusiasm and support is welcomed and greatly appreciated.
closest thing we have to a rivalry but I believe this is only the 4th meeting in football?? It will grow with time. Rivalries develop over time and having something to play for in the belt (although it's ugly)gives an incentive in the rivalry

I agree with Hemi this time. This kids are having fun and trying to make this exciting. Attendance short and long term could get better if people feel they have an extra reason to come. Because, unfortunately, just playing 100 years of football doesn't automatically mean people actually come to the games. Also, from what I understand, they did ask publicity for ideas (including here) and weren't given much to work with. Too many people focused more on the "I don't want a rivalry with anyone" rather than on "lets try to make this fun and get more butts in the seats." And honestly, the belt is better than our rival's cheerleaders spitting tobacco juice on the band's shoes... though that may come in time.

Now seeing that and the aftermath it would cause would be fun.
The Belt should have been a flaming hammer

I remember many of these same type of comments when, YES, the SGAs of both schools along with help from others, declared MTSU rivalry and the Palladium Trophy. GUESS WHAT FOLKS, that turned into a rivalry QUICK!! If you were not at the "Miracle in Murfreesboro" then you may not believe that, but it was.
I actually believe that UAB will become a HUGE GAME and hope that game is ALWAYS in the schedule, BUT ONLY WHEN they have an on campus stadium. Not to say South is left behind, we need both RIVALRIES!

The Tuscaloosa mothership eliminates their satellite school's programs that want their own stadium.

Never really cared what other teams thought of us, I just miss winning seasons and championships. The things that matter for a football program.
