I think Troy fans argue with each other more than any fan base in the world

When I was a kid (back when the helmets were leather and had no face masks) Troy State played a game each year in Dothan. If I remember correctly, the opponent was frequently Livingston (UWA) and the game was dubbed the Peanut Bowl. This was in the late '60's and some of you may be better historians than me. I guess this is a long winded way to say, I like the idea of naming the game the Peanut Bowl with the winner being awarded the Golden Peanut. We played that game in 85 ... Miss. College. Miserable ... about a thousand degrees and we played awful and lost big. I think it was in conjunction with the "Peanut Festival"? Got blindsided on punt coverage ... so don't remember much of it! But, we didn't play the game in 86 or 87, so 85 might've been the last time?

I would much rather erk the nerves of you message board nerds than consistently run down our student athletes like another "group" likes to do.

But then again, some on here think that wasn't real football either.

Since The Dream is the only one of you bozos that knows anything about wearing a title belt, I will give my two cents (which is actually worth $9.33) For all you getting you Fruit of the Looms in a wad about South being a rival, do us all a favor and can it. Whether you like it or not, South is the closest thing we have to a rival. They will be on the schedule every season for the foreseeable future in every sport. They have a football win over us, which gives them a claim of being on the same level as us. Yes, I know we have been fielding a team for more than 100 years, but once a win happens, the younger program gains legitimatacy. Jax State isn't coming back on our schedule any time soon, so please stop yearning for the DII days. South Alabama is Troy's top rival across every sport. If you don't think so, just ask a coach or player. As for the belt trophy, one of my old nemesis said "To be the man, you have to beat the man." Whoever holds that belt, is the man in the southern part of this state. I made two posts on this thread and let it go. Why don't you take your nasty, slimy, polka dot tights and cram them back in your lousy side show of a wrestler mouth? I think people are just so fascinated with giving a crappy name to a football game that they're not thinking about all the help this is giving a program that 1) doesn't care, 2) doesn't need it, and 3) ultimately hurts Troy. The title of this thread is "Troy vs. South rivalry?" See, it's even got a question mark. I'm against it, and I voiced my opinion here. I haven't seen anything about "only post your PRO rivalry opinions here." so stop trying to police the thread, you fat, lame wrestler. I find your stance arrogant and elitist, you must be a bammer at heart!

I've stated my opinions and left it alone, but I'll defend myself. I'm sorry if you think I'm arrogant and elitist for being against this "rivalry". I want what's best for the program, too. I just don't think this manufactured "rivalry" is it.

It kind of already is.

Jag fan here looking forward to the game on Saturday. Not staying overnight, but will drive up early and possibly tailgate. Looking for a cool destination (close to the stadium) to catch some of the 'Bama v. UGA game before kickoff. Need info on parking. Last time (when we lost in the heartbreaker!) we parked at Charles Henderson and walked. Thanks in advance for the info!

This may be difficult for some people to take, but the chancellor, AD, coaches and players are calling it a rivalry. homershake

If what you say about the admins is true then I disagree with them as well. The people who put their butts in the seats ultimately make the difference. I haven't talked to a south fan that cares about rivalry. In fact, they see Troy trying to manufacture a rivalry and revel in the idea that WE NEED THEM. They take the idea of us making a rivlary as act of concession. They want to win the game, but only the way any school wants to win any game. There's nothing special to it for them. There's a lot more I could preach about, but for the sake of (some) brevity, I'll just say this: Instead of manufacturing rivalries, lets just win games. If they are meant to be, rivalries will grow naturally as they should.

So, so bama's SGA comes up with the idea and none of their fans care? Hell, I like nurses better than I like quacks anyway...

It's a rivalry. Every conference opponent is a rivalry because we play them every year and we want to beat them because there are serious consequences if we lose. Both SGA's decided it's a rivalry worthy of trophy (BELT). We as fans need to embrace it and move forward. The schedulers need to make it the last game of the year.

As well you should... if you're good at you chosen craft. Plus, Troy has a nursing program and they have a med school... that's really where my analogy came from...

No. According to what you just said, it's just another conference game of the same importance as any other. No more, no less. The fact that the SGA's came up with it doesn't make it mean something. I think the whole belt thing is dumb anyway, even for manufactured rivalry. Both schools are gonna get roasted by ESPN for that. I don't care what Jack Hawkins Jr. says. I don't care what the SGAs say. I don't care what the Mobile Register says. I don't care what the Troy Messenger says. I don't care what Larry Blakeney says. (Gasp! shock! Uproar!) Troy is manufacturing all this and south is happy to let them because it helps them more. Ask a south fan who their rival is, they won't say Troy.

Sooooooo, now we know what you DON'T care about, great. This "rivalry" IS manufactured, that is true, aren't ALL RIVALRIES "MANUFACTURED"? I mean, really, somebody, somewhere " manufactured" the idea of the "Golden Hat" or the old ax handle, or whatever, they were all manufactured, every one of them! The fact that you don't care for it, doesn't matter to those that do. The SGAs of both schools decided this, the players and coaches have embraced it, along with the students and ISNT THAT what school RIVALRIES are all about? Students and staff? Not fans, especially those of us that forget that college football should ALWAYS be about students enjoying the thrill of competing and winning, especially an in-state conference team? I, personally, could care less what ESPN (or any other network) says about this game! They (ESPN) treat us (All of the Sunbelt) like dog crap, often in the same vain as FCS teams, mis state our school name, never prepared to announce the games, etc. So whatever they "think or say" about this game or any other TROY game, "I" don't care!!!!

Regardless of how you feel about this rivalry, this is a pretty sweet trophy. Would've been a good idea for a conference championship trophy though.
