Then they will hire young up-and-coming dude. New Coach will grab as many G4 transfers as he can New Coach will grab as many Jucos as he can Normal School will be working on year 2 of a 7 year plan to return to the Johnny Williams Bowl.
And just so we are clear, Ho blame most of this mess on Sumrall. He could waited one more season and has pick of $EC teams. He still might and leave Tulame after one season. What a phony.

JS could have waited one year and maybe, just Maybe landed 7-5, 8-4 (or worse) here and tarnished his value. It was a timing decision as well a Show me the Buck$ deal! 'Hole not defending anyone's decision here, just fact be the fact.

Of all the great points Cornhole has made, this may be the most factual. 8-4 was a probable best case before the portal hit and coaching changes happened.

Someone correct me if my numbers are wrong (they won't be far off). We lost 26 seniors, almost all of whom were starters and the ones that weren't staring were on the 2 deep, seeing significant playing time. That's an ENTIRE football team of experience, GONE. In addition, we lost a few quality players to the portal or early draft declaration and took a significant hit when we lost our top WR to sickness. Ex HCJS stated that this season would be on of rebuilding (regrouping, growth, all it what you will) and I agree that 8-4 would have been best case scenario. There is a lot of difference in 8-4 and 2-10 and we cannot go 2-10 and move on as if nothing ever happened.
The wide open portal and NIL has changed the landscape of college football, but giving players up to 6 hears of eligibility because of the pandemic changed it as well. We aren't the only team that had to deal with losing about load of 6 hear guys, but man, that hit us hard. One can argue that having the6 year guys on board made us better than we would have been in a "normal" environment. One can only hope that we go through the reset and through the pains caused by coaching/roster changes without long term damage to our program. We shall see.

Like i said in another post. HCGP is honestly learning how to be a HC. He will have growing pains, XHCNB had them too, his first year was 4-8.. with a bare cupboard. We will be fine, just drink a little more, spend more time at the alter, and be happy as we can be. We are not far removed from b2b 10+ wins, and SBCC. Keep the faith

On the calendar, we're not that far from those things at all. On the field, science would struggle to correctly quantify how far away we are from those things.

I agree, i also agree that next hire should be a proven former FBS/FCS coach but until then lets encourage HCGP and staff and team to grow and show improvement even if it is an inch a game

Defense looked much better against XXX for a good portion of the game. At one point I even spied a formation where four young Trojans where acting as down linemen and wouldn't you know it, we stopped the run.

Whether one loves Parker and this staff or one doesn’t think he is/will make it at all, looks like everyone is at the same place, a frustrating, BS of a one win season, with that win over a FCS team. Either way, support, interest and fans are shutting it down for the year. Time to focus on other things for awhile.

Hall went 3-9 his first year and had his best year his second year, going 7-6.
I wonder, with no connection to anything Troy related and please don't repeat this at Troy Upward Soccer games, if you asked the majority of Southern Miss fans if they wouldn't want to go back in time and make a change after that 3-9 season. And don't let anybody hop on here and scare you with the word buy-out. We are going to pay him that money. Either to lose games or not live in Pike County. One way or another, he's getting it. A FCS coach would cost half of what he's making. Dang it. It is about Troy. Sorry Hemi.

Once you have decided to step up and pay the past few guys you can't tell a coach "eh, you came from FCS, so we don't think you're worth it"

I look at what’s real and what causes the less than desirable results. Knee jerk reactions to fire the coach are rarely the right choice.

Something tells me Jeremy McClain is looking very intently at Neal Brown and his WVU situation.
If Southern Miss wound up getting NB... I have to say, I'll be a little bit sad with a touch of jealousy.
